T he adaptive cruise cont rol system is a combina­
tion of speed and distance regu lation.
It assists
the driver by both regu lating the speed and
maintain ing a d istance to the vehicle driv ing
ahead, w ith in the limits of the system. If the sys­
tem detects a vehicle driving ahead, the adaptive cruise control can brake and accelerate your vehi­
cle . T his increases d riving comfort during long
trips o n highways and in stop-and-go traffic.
What can adap tiv e crui se con trol do ?
The adaptive cru ise control sys tem uses radar .
The radar is subject to designated system limits
¢ page 124 .
On open roads with no traffic, it functions like a
cruise contro l system . The stored speed is main­
ta ined . When approaching a vehicle ahead and
the system detects it, the adapt ive cruise control
system automat ically brakes to match that ob­
ject's speed and t hen maintains the stored d is­
t a nce. As soon as t he sys tem does not de tec t a
vehicle driving ahead, adaptive cruise cont ro l ac ­
ce lerates up to the stored speed .
Within the lim its of t he sys tem, adapt ive cru ise
contro l can brake in stop -and-go t raff ic until t he
vehicle is s tat iona ry and then begin driving again
under certain conditions ¢

Which functions can be controlled?
When you switc h adap tive cr uise control o n, you
can set the cur rent speed as the "contro l speed"

strument cluster display, you can call i t up using
the multifunction steering wheel buttons

Based on the graphics in the d isp lay, you can de­
termine if the system is mainta ining a distance to
a vehicle ahead and what that distance to this ve­
h icle is:
No vehicle -no vehicle was detected driving
ahead.
Sil ver vehicle -a vehicle was detected driving
ahead.
Red vehicle -request for driver intervention

The five distance bar s on the gauge@ represent
the set d istance (refer
to r:::;, page 128 for infor­
mat io n on how to change the distance). If yo u
fa ll below the se lected distance, the distance
bars become red from the bottom upward.
A WARNING
If you press the ISE TI b utton when driving at
speeds below 20 mph (30 km/h), the vehicle
accelerates automat ica lly up to 20 mph (30
km/h), which is the m inimum speed that can
be set.

- If you switch the ignition or the adaptive
cruise control system off, the set speed is
erased for safety reasons.
- The electronic stabilization control (ESC)
and the anti-slip-regulation (ASR) are auto­
matically switc hed on when the adaptive
cruise control is switched on.

The adaptive cruise control system assists you in
stop -and -go traffic . If a vehicle that is detected
ahead stops, your vehicle will brake and stay at a
stop , within the lim its of the system.

It is dangerous to activate cruise control and

When approaching a veh icle driving ahead, the
adaptive cru ise control system brakes to match
that vehicle's speed and then adjusts to the set
d istance.
If the vehicle dr iv ing ahead accelerates ,
then the adaptive cruise control will also acceler­
ate up to the speed that you have set.
The higher the speed, the greate r the d istance
c::;, ,&. . The Di stan ce 3 setting is recommended.

The distances provided a re spec ified values . De­
pending on the dr iv ing situation and how the

more or less than these target distances .

mph (100 km/h), or a time distance of 1.3 sec ­
onds.
Di stanc e 3: this setting corresponds to a d istance
of 164 feet ( SO meters) when trave ling at 62
mph ( 100 km/h), or a time distance of 1.8 sec ­
onds .
Distanc e 4: this setting corresponds to a d istance
of 219 feet (67 meters) when trave ling at 62
mph ( 100 km/h), or a time distance of 2 .4 sec ­
onds .
Distance 5 : this setting corresponds to a d istance
of 328 feet ( 100 meters) when t raveling a t 62
mph ( 100 km/h), or a time distance of 3 .6 sec ­
onds .

proximately 20 to 50 mph (30 to 85 km/h) and
it approaches a stationary vehicle.
- your vehicle is traveling at speeds between ap ­
proximately 20 to 155 mph (30 to 250 km/h)
and it approaches a vehicle that is clearly trav ­
eling more slowly or a veh icle in your direction
o f travel tha t is stopped.
When this warning occurs, it may only be possi ­
b le to avoid a collision by swerving or braking
strong ly. The message

If there is an impending collision with vehicles,

sharp braking. If you do not react to the acute

If pre sense front determines that you are not
braking strongly enough when a co llision is imm i­
nent, it can inc rease the braking force, depending
on the situation and speed:
-if there are stationary vehicles when you are
traveling at speeds up to approx imately 50
mph (85 km/h)
-if the re are ve hicles driving or stopped ahead
when you are traveling at speeds up to approxi­
mately 155 mph (250 km/h)

This message appears if the pre sense functions
are switched off throug h the Infotainment sys­
tem or if the system is not ready .
Audi active lane assist
Description
Applies to: vehicles with Audi active lane assist
Active lane assist (lane departure warning) de­
tects lane marker lines within the limits of the
system using a camera in the windshie ld. If you
are approaching a detected lane marker line and
it appears likely that you w ill leave the lane, the
system will warn you with corrective steering.
You can overr ide this steer ing at any time. If you
pass over a line, the stee ring wheel will vib rate
li gh tly. In order for this wa rning vib rat ion to
oc­
c ur , it must firs t be swi tc h ed o n in the I nfot ain­
ment system. Active lane assist is ready for oper ­
ation when the lane marker line is detected on at
l east one side of the vehicle.

ways and hig hways and t herefo re o nly ac tiva tes

Messages in the instrument cluster display
If the active lane assist sw itches off automatical­
ly, the indicator light in the display turns off and
one of the following messages appears:
Ill Audi active lane assist : malfunction! See
owner's manual
Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility immed iate ly to have the
malfunction corrected .
Ill Audi active lane assist : currently unavaila­
ble. No camera view
This message appears if the camera is unable to
detect the lines. This could happen if:

-The camera field of view ¢ page 134, fig. 136 is
dirty or covered in ice. Clean this area on the
windshield.
-The camera field of view is fogged over. Wait until the fog has cleared before switching the
active lane assist on again.
-The system has been unable to detect the lanes
for an extended period of time due to road con­
ditions. Switch active lane assist back on when
the lines are more visible .

your blind spot and traffic behind your vehicle .
Within the limits of the system, it warns you
about veh icles that are com ing closer or that are
