Notice:Your vehicle has a number of features that
can help prevent theft. You can have a lot of
trouble getting into your vehicle if you ever lose
your transmitters and/or key. You may even have to
damage your vehicle to get in. So be sure you
have a spare transmitter and/or key.In an emergency, contact Cadillac Roadside Assistance.

If your vehicle is equipped with the OnStar
žsystem,
OnStaržmay be able to send a command to unlock your
vehicle if needed. If the vehicle battery is dead,
OnStar
žwill be unable to unlock the vehicle. SeeOnStaržSystem on page 2-35for more information.
Keyless Access System
Your vehicle has a Keyless Access system that operates
on a radio frequency subject to Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) Rules and with Industry Canada.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
(1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and
(2) this device must accept any interference received,
including interference that may cause undesired
operation.
This device complies with RSS-210 of Industry Canada.

Power Door Locks
The power door lock
switches are located on
the door panels near
the windows.
K(Unlock):Press this portion of the button to unlock
the doors.
Q(Lock):Press this portion of the button to lock
the doors.
There is an indicator light on the rear of the door near
the window.
When the lock portion of the button is pressed and the
door is closed, a beep will sound and the light will
come on for a few seconds, then turn off. If the button is
pressed and the door is open, a beep will sound and
the light will stay on continuously.When the unlock portion of the button is pressed and
the door is closed, a beep will sound and the light
will ¯ash twice. When the button is pressed and the door
is open, a beep will sound and the light will ¯ash
continuously.
Programmable Automatic Door
Locks
Your vehicle is programmed so that, when the doors are
closed, the ignition is on and the shift lever is moved
out of PARK (P), all the doors will lock. The doors
will unlock every time you stop the vehicle and move
the shift lever into PARK (P).
If someone needs to get out while your vehicle is not in
PARK (P), have the person use the power door lock
switch. When the door is closed again, the doors
will lock either when your foot is removed from the
brake or the vehicle speed becomes faster than
3 mph (5 km/h).
With the vehicle in PARK (P) and the engine running,
the door locks can be programmed through prompts
displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC). These
prompts allow the driver to choose various lock and
unlock settings. For programming information, see
DIC

Power Windows
The power window
switches are located on
each door near the
armrest.
Press the up or down arrows on the switches to raise or
lower the windows.
Your vehicle has Retained Accessory Power (RAP) that
allows you to use the power windows once the
ignition has been turned off. For more information, see
ªRetained Accessory Powerº under
Ignition Positions
on page 2-19.

Starting and Operating Your
Vehicle
New Vehicle Break-In
Notice:Your vehicle does not need an elaborate
ªbreak-in.º But it will perform better in the long run
if you follow these guidelines:
·Keep your speed at 55 mph (88 km/h) or less for
the ®rst 500 miles (805 km).
·Do not drive at any one speed Ð fast or
slow Ð for the ®rst 500 miles (805 km). Do not
make full-throttle starts.
·Avoid making hard stops for the ®rst 200 miles
(322 km) or so. During this time your new
brake linings are not yet broken in. Hard stops
with new linings can mean premature wear
and earlier replacement. Follow this breaking-in
guideline every time you get new brake
linings.
Ignition Positions
Your vehicle has an
electronic keyless ignition
with pushbutton start.
/(START):Press this button while your foot is on the
brake to start the engine. The keyless access transmitter
must be in the vehicle for the ignition to work.
9ACC (OFF/ACCESSORY):When the engine is on
or in ACCESSORY, press this button to turn the
engine off and place the vehicle in RAP. See ªRetained
Accessory Power (RAP)º following for more information.

When the engine is off, press this button to place the
vehicle in ACCESSORY mode. ACCESSORY
MODE ACTIVE will display on the Driver Information
Center (DIC). This mode allows you to use things
like the radio and the windshield wipers while the engine
is off. Use ACCESSORY if you must have your vehicle
in motion while the engine is off, for example, if your
vehicle is being pushed or towed. If the door is
open while in ACCESSORY, the key in reminder chime
will sound continuously.
Retained Accessory Power (RAP)
The following accessories on your vehicle may be used
for up to 10 minutes after the engine is turned off:
·Radio
·Power Windows
·Audio Steering Wheel Controls
Power to these accessories stops after 10 minutes or if
a door is opened. If you want power for another
10 minutes, close all the doors and press the
OFF/ACCESSORY button to place the vehicle in
ACCESSORY mode. Press the button again and the
vehicle will return to RAP.
Starting Your Engine
Move your shift lever to PARK (P) or NEUTRAL (N).
Your engine will not start in any other position ± that is
a safety feature. To restart when you are already
moving, use NEUTRAL (N) only.
The keyless access transmitter must be in the vehicle
for the ignition to work.
Notice:Do not try to shift to PARK (P) if your
vehicle is moving. If you do, you could damage the
transmission. Shift to PARK (P) only when your
vehicle is stopped.
1. With your foot on the brake pedal, press the
START button. When the engine begins cranking,
let go of the button. The idle speed will go down as
your engine gets warm.
If the battery in the keyless access transmitter is
weak, the DIC will display FOB BATTERY
LOW. You can still drive the vehicle. See ªBattery
Replacementº under
Keyless Access System
Operation on page 2-4for more information.

Some automatic downshifts may occur to maintain
minimum engine speed. This will only occur if you leave
the vehicle in too high of a gear range for the speed
the vehicle is traveling. For example, if you have been
driving in ®fth gear range and come to a stop without
manually downshifting, ®fth gear range will continue to
display in the HUD. The transmission will automatically
downshift to second gear. As you begin to drive
and accelerate, the transmission will automatically
upshift as quickly as possible to the selected ®fth
gear range.
In higher gear ranges, an automatic downshift will occur
if you press the accelerator pedal to the ¯oor. This
feature provides you with adequate acceleration
capabilities if you forget to downshift manually.
Automatic upshifts and downshifts will not display in
the HUD.
Driver shift control is available while the cruise control is
engaged. The shift behavior of the transmission will
react differently than when cruise control is not engaged.
This is not a malfunction and is necessary to allow
proper operation of the cruise control.
To return to fully automatic operation, move the shift
lever to the right and back into the AUTOMATIC
OVERDRIVE (D) position.Parking Brake
The parking brake pedal is
located to the left of the
regular brake pedal,
near the driver's door.
To set the parking brake, hold the regular brake pedal
down with your right foot and push the parking brake
pedal down with your left foot.
If the ignition is running, the parking brake indicator light
on the instrument panel cluster should come on. If it
does not, you need to have your vehicle serviced.

When you move out of PARK (P) or NEUTRAL (N) and
the engine is running, the parking brake should
release. If the parking brake has not been fully released
and you try to drive off with the parking brake on, the
parking brake indicator light will come on and stay on.
If the parking brake does not fully release, you can
manually release the pedal. However, be sure to read
the following paragraphs:
{CAUTION:
Always shift to PARK (P) before pulling the
manual release lever. If your hand or arm is in
the way of the pedal you could be hurt. The
pedal springs back quickly. Keep your hand
and arm away when you use the manual
release lever.
Before releasing the manual parking brake, be sure to
put the vehicle in PARK (P) and turn the ignition off.Reach under the driver's side of the instrument panel
and pull down on the manual release lever, which
is located behind the parking brake pedal. Pull down on
the yellow tab as shown by the arrow in the illustration.
If the parking brake does not release, you should
have your vehicle towed to your dealer for service.
Notice:Driving with the parking brake on can
overheat the brake system and cause premature
wear or damage to brake system parts. Verify that
the parking brake is fully released and the brake
warning light is off before driving.

Shifting Into Park (P)
{CAUTION:
It can be dangerous to get out of your vehicle
if the shift lever is not fully in PARK (P) with
the parking brake ®rmly set. Your vehicle can
roll. If you have left the engine running, the
vehicle can move suddenly. You or others
could be injured. To be sure your vehicle will
not move, even when you are on fairly level
ground, use the steps that follow.
1. Hold the brake pedal down with your right foot and
set the parking brake.2. Move the shift lever
into PARK (P) by
pushing the lever all
the way toward
the front of the vehicle.
3. Turn the ignition off.

Shifting Out of Park (P)
Your vehicle has an automatic transmission shift lock
control system. You have to fully apply your regular
brake before you can shift from PARK (P) when
the vehicle is running. See
Automatic Transmission
Operation on page 2-23.
If you cannot shift out of PARK (P), ease pressure on
the shift lever ± push the shift lever all the way into
PARK (P) and release the shift lever button as
you maintain brake application. Then press the shift
lever button and move the shift lever into the gear
you wish.If you ever hold the brake pedal down but still cannot
shift out of PARK (P), try this:
1. Press the ACCESSORY button twice to place the
ignition in accessory mode.
2. Apply and hold the brake until the end of Step 4.
3. Shift to NEUTRAL (N).
4. Start the engine and then shift to the drive gear
you want.
5. Have your vehicle inspected by your dealer as soon
as possible.
