phone, audio system.
The cell phone searches for a network. The
display remains blank during this time.As soon as the cell phone has found a

Once it has shown its operational readi-
ness, you can operate the cell phone us-
ing the operating system.

If it is permitted to operate a cell phone
while the vehicle is in motion, you must
only operate it when road and traffic con-
ditions permit. You may otherwise be dis-
tracted from the traffic conditions, cause
an accident and injure yourself and oth-
ers.Cell phones without exterior antennas
may interfere with the vehicle electronics
and thereby jeopardize the operational
safety of the vehicle. You must therefore
only use these devices when they are con-
nected to a separate exterior antenna.

Rejecting a callIf you do not wish to speak to the person
who is calling, you can reject the call.\1

If a connection is made, you will see
the name of the person you are call-

RedialingThe operating system stores the most
recently dialed phone numbers. This
means that you do not have to search

Prevents the parked vehicle
from rolling away. Only move

You can only remove the key

Reverse gear

Only move the selector lever

R when the vehicle is sta-
tionary.

NeutralNo power is transmitted from
the engine to the drive
wheels. Releasing the brakes
will allow you to move the ve-
hicle freely, e.g. by pushing or
towing.Do not move the selector le-

N while the vehicle is in
motion. The automatic trans-
mission could otherwise be
damaged.

Upshifting

The automatic transmission extends
the shift range by one gear. The auto-
matic transmission shifts to the next
gear up, depending on the current
gearshift program.
Derestricting the shift range

The automatic transmission shifts
from the current shift range directly

Selecting the ideal shift range

to a range which allows easy acceler-
ation and deceleration. To do this,

you can restrict or derestrict the shift
range for the automatic transmission.

The set shift range is shown in the

Shift rangesiIf the maximum engine speed for the
shift range is reached and you de-
press the accelerator, the automatic
transmission will not upshift if the

Air conditioning

The display next to the airflow con-
trols indicates the speed of the air-
flow.The air distribution is set using the air
distribution control in the control panel
(

page 218).
The symbols on the air distribution
control have the following meanings:
You can switch off the flow of outside air
if unpleasant odors are entering the ve-
hicle from outside, e.g. before driving
through a tunnel. No more outside air is
taken in and the air inside the vehicle is
recirculated.
iThe blower switches off if you press
the
ß airflow control again after the
slowest speed has been reached.

Setting the airflowThe airflow is set using the airflow con-
