SYSTEM
Principle of Operation
The system prevents someone fromstarting the engine with an incorrectlycoded key.
Coded Keys
If you lose a key, you can obtain areplacement from an authorized dealer. Ifpossible, provide them with the keynumber from the tag provided with theoriginal keys. You can also obtain extrakeys from an authorized dealer.
Note:Have all of your remaining keyserased and recoded if you lose a key. Havereplacement keys coded together withrecoding your remaining keys. See anauthorized dealer for further information.
Note:Do not shield your keys with metalobjects. This may prevent the receiver fromrecognizing a coded key.
Arming the Engine Immobilizer
When you switch the ignition off the engineimmobilizer will arm automatically after ashort time.
Disarming the Engine Immobilizer
When you switch the ignition on the engineimmobilizer will disarm automatically if acorrectly coded key is used.
If you are unable to start the engine with acorrectly coded key, have your vehiclechecked by an authorized dealer.
ANTI-THEFT ALARM
Alarm System
Your vehicle may have one of the followingalarm systems:
•Perimeter alarm.
•Perimeter alarm with interior sensors.
•Category one alarm with interiorsensors and battery back-up sounder.
Perimeter Alarm
The perimeter alarm is a deterrent againstunauthorized access to your vehiclethrough the doors and the hood. It alsoprotects the audio unit.
Interior Sensors
WARNINGS
Do not cover up the interior lamp unitsensors.
Do not arm the alarm with full guardif passengers, animals or othermoving objects are inside yourvehicle.
The sensors act as a deterrent againstunauthorized intrusion by sensing anymovement within your vehicle.
Battery Back-up Sounder
The battery back-up sounder is an extraalarm system which will sound a sirenwhen the alarm is triggered. When you lockyour vehicle the system is armed. Thesounder has its own battery and will soundan alarm siren even if someonedisconnects your vehicle battery or thebattery back-up sounder itself.

Once armed, the alarm is triggered in anyof the following ways:
•If someone opens a door, the liftgateor the hood without a valid key orremote control.
•If someone removes the audio ornavigation system.
•If you switch the ignition on without avalid key.
•If the interior sensors detect movementwithin your vehicle.
•On vehicles with a battery back-upsounder, if someone disconnects yourvehicle battery or the battery back-upsounder itself.
If the alarm is triggered, the alarm horn willsound for 30 seconds and the hazardwarning flasher will flash for five minutes.
Any further attempts to perform one of theabove will trigger the alarm again.
Full and Reduced Guard
Full Guard
Full guard is the standard setting.
In full guard, the interior sensors are onwhen you arm the alarm.
Note:This may result in false alarms ifanimals or moving objects are inside yourvehicle.
Reduced Guard
In reduced guard, the interior sensors areoff when you arm the alarm.
Note:You can set the alarm to reducedguard for the current ignition cycle only. Thealarm will reset to full guard the next timeyou switch the ignition on.
Ask on Exit (If Equipped)
You can set the information display to askyou each time which level of guard youwish to set.
If you select Ask on Exit, the messageReduced guard? appears in theinformation display each time you switchthe ignition off. See InformationMessages (page 67).
If you wish to arm the alarm with reducedguard, press the OK button when thismessage appears.
If you wish to arm the alarm with full guard,leave your vehicle without pressing the OKbutton.
Selecting Full or Reduced Guard
Note:Selecting Reduced does not set thealarm permanently to reduced guard. It setsit to reduced guard only for the currentignition cycle. If you regularly set the alarmto reduced guard, select Ask on Exit.
You can select full or reduced guard usingthe information display. See GeneralInformation (page 67).
Arming the Alarm
To arm the alarm, lock your vehicle. SeeLocks (page 34).
Disarming the Alarm
Vehicles Without Keyless Entry
Perimeter Alarm
Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors with the key and switching theignition on with a correctly coded key orunlocking the doors with the remotecontrol.

Vehicles with Keyless Entry
Note:A valid passive key must be locatedwithin the detection range of that door forkeyless entry. See Keyless Entry (page 36).
Perimeter Alarm
Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors and switching the ignition on orunlocking the doors with the remotecontrol.
Category One Alarm
Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors and switching the ignition onwithin 12 seconds or unlocking the doorsor the liftgate with the remote control.

WARNING
Do not adjust the steering wheelwhen your vehicle is moving.
Note:Make sure that you are sitting in thecorrect position. See Sitting in the CorrectPosition (page 83).
1.Unlock the steering column.
2.Adjust the steering wheel to the desiredposition.
3.Lock the steering column.

Select the required source on the audiounit.

Note:Fully defrost the windshield beforeswitching on the windshield wipers.
Note:Make sure the windshield wipers areswitched off before entering a car wash.
Note:Install new wiper blades as soon asthey begin to leave bands of water andsmears on the windshield.
Note:Do not operate the wipers on a drywindshield. This may scratch the glass,damage the wiper blades or cause the wipermotor to burn out. Always use thewindshield washers before wiping a drywindshield.

Speed Dependent Wipers
When your vehicle speed increases, theinterval between wipes will decrease.
AUTOWIPERS
Note:Fully defrost the windshield beforeswitching on the windshield wipers.
Note:Make sure the windshield wipers areswitched off before entering a car wash.
Note:Clean the windshield and wiperblades if they begin to leave streaks orsmears. If that does not resolve the issue,install new wiper blades.
Note:If you switch autolamps on inconjunction with autowipers, low beamheadlamps will illuminate automaticallywhen the rain sensor activates thewindshield wipers continuously.
Wet or winter driving conditions with ice,snow or salty road mist can causeinconsistent and unexpected wiping orsmearing.

•Lower the sensitivity of the autowipers.
•Change the wiper speed to normal orhigh speed wipe as necessary.
•Switch the autowipers off.

The wipers will function when water isdetected on the windshield. The rainsensor will continue to monitor the amountof water on the windshield and adjust thespeed of the wipers automatically. Thisfeature can be switched on or off in theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 63).
Note:When you switch this feature off, thewipers will return to the variable intermittentsetting based on the sensitivity you haveset.
Use the rotary control to adjust thesensitivity of the rain sensor. On minimumautowipe, the wipers will operate when thesensor detects a large amount of water onthe windshield. On maximum autowipe,the wipers will operate when the sensordetects a small amount of water on thewindshield.
Keep the outside of the windshield clean.Sensor performance will be affected if thearea around the interior mirror is dirty. Therain sensor is very sensitive and the wipersmay operate if dirt, mist or flies hit thewindshield.
WINDSHIELD WASHERS
Note:Do not operate the washers whenthe washer reservoir is empty. This maycause the washer pump to overheat.
Push the button to operate the washers.When you release the button, the wiperswill operate for a short time.

Pull the lever toward you.

The rear wiper will turn on automaticallywhen selecting reverse gear if:
•the rear wiper is not already switchedon
•the wiper lever is in position A, B, C orD
•the front wiper is operating (when setto position B).
Rear Window Washer
Note:Do not operate the washers whenthe washer reservoir is empty. This maycause the washer pump to overheat.
Pull the lever toward you to operate thewashers. They will operate for a maximumof 10 seconds. When you release the lever,the wiper will operate for a short time.

Condensation in Lamp Assemblies
Exterior lamps have vents toaccommodate normal changes in airpressure.
Condensation can be a natural by-productof this design. When moist air enters thelamp assembly through the vents, there isa possibility that condensation can occurwhen the temperature is cold. Whennormal condensation occurs, a fine mistcan form on the interior of the lens. Thefine mist eventually clears and exitsthrough the vents during normal operation.
Clearing time may take as long as 48 hoursunder dry weather conditions.
Examples of acceptable condensation are:
•The presence of a fine mist (no streaks,drip marks or large droplets).
•A fine mist covers less than 50% of thelens.
Examples of unacceptable condensationare:
•A water puddle inside the lamp.
•Streaks, drip marks or large dropletspresent on the interior of the lens.
If you see any unacceptable condensation,have your vehicle checked by an authorizeddealer.

Pull the lever fully toward you to switchthe high beams on.
Push the lever forward to switch the highbeams off.
Headlamp Flasher
Pull the lever toward you slightly andrelease it to flash the headlamps.
AUTOLAMPS
Note:It may be necessary to switch yourheadlamps on manually in severe weatherconditions.
Note:If you have autolamps on, you canonly switch the high beam on onceautolamps has switched the headlamps on.
Note:If you have autolamps on, you canonly switch the front fog lamps on onceautolamps has switched the headlamps on.
The headlamps will switch on and offautomatically in low light situations orduring inclement weather.
The headlamps will remain on for a periodof time after you switch the ignition off.You can adjust the time delay using theinformation display controls. SeeInformation Displays (page 63).
Note:If you switch autolamps on inconjunction with autowipers, low beamheadlamps will illuminate automaticallywhen the rain sensor turns on the windshieldwipers continuously.
