Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine The restraint system, with beltpretensioners in the front seat, helpsto reduce the risk of serious injury ina head-on collision. During a seriouscrash the seat belts are pretensionedto help reduce slack in the belt.
The pretensioners are triggered infrontal and side collisions providedthe threshold is reached. In rearcollisions the pretensioners are nottriggered. The passenger’spretensioner is also disabled if thepassenger’s seat is empty, even ifthe passenger’s buckle is latched.
SEAT BELT REMINDER
When the vehicle’s speedexceeds 7 km/h (4 mph),the seat belt reminder lampwill illuminate and a chime will soundif the driver’s safety belt is unbuckled.The chime will stop after 10 minutes.The lamp will not go out until thedriver has fastened his/her safetybelt.
WARNING
Never sit on top of a buckledsafety belt to avoid the seat beltreminder function. The restraintsystem can only work properly ifpassengers have buckled up theirsafety belts.
Note: The seat belt reminderremains in stand−by mode after thedriver has fastened his/her safetybelt. It will be reactivated if the driverunbuckles his/her safety belt.
Deactivating the seat beltreminder
To deactivate the seat belt reminderfor one ignition cycle, buckle andunbuckle the seat belt within 3seconds with the ignition switchedon.
Contact your dealer to deactivate theseat belt reminder permanently andto reactivate it afterwards. Yourdealer will either provide you with therelevant information or will carry outthe deactivation/reactivation for you.

Insert the tongue into the buckleuntil a distinct click is heard,otherwise the seat belt will not belocked correctly.
Pull the belt out steadily. It may lockif pulled sharply or if the vehicle is ona slope.
To release the belt, press the redbutton on the buckle and let the beltrewind completely and smoothly.
WARNING
In order to ensure that thecentre belt works properly, therear seatback must be correctlyengaged.
Make sure that each seat belt usesthe correct buckle.
SEAT BELT HEIGHT
ADJUSTMENT
To adjust, press the locking controlon the height adjuster and move thepivot so that the belt rests across thecentre of the shoulder.

DURING PREGNANCY
WARNINGS
Pregnant women must wear acorrectly positioned seat belt; itis safer for mother and unborn child.
Never wear just the lap strap ofa lap/shoulder diagonal seat beltand never sit on the lap strap usingjust the shoulder strap. Both of theseactions are extremely dangerous andmay increase your risk of seriousinjury.
The lap strap should be fittedcomfortably across the hips, lowbeneath the pregnant abdomen. Thediagonal part of the seat belt shouldbe placed between the breasts, andworn above and to the side of thepregnant abdomen.
Always wear seat belts without slackor twists. For optimum protection,the seat belts should fit tightly aroundthe body. Do not recline the frontseats excessively, as the beltsprovide maximum protection whenthe seats are in the near uprightposition.
AIRBAG WARNING LAMP
When the ignition isswitched on (position II), thelamp illuminates briefly toconfirm that the system isoperational.
If it does not illuminate, if it stays onor illuminates intermittently orcontinuously while driving, it indicatesa malfunction. Have this checked byan expert for your own safety.

ON RADIO FREQUENCIES

WARNINGS
The radio frequency used by theremote control can also be usedby other short distance radiotransmissions (e.g. amateur radios,medical equipment, wirelessheadphones, remote controls, alarmsystems etc.). If the remote controlfrequencies are jammed, you will notbe able to use any remote functions,the vehicle will not lock or unlock, norwill the alarm be armed. However,you can lock/ unlock with the key.
The vehicle or luggagecompartment will be opened ifthe buttons are pressedunintentionally, without the remotecontrol being directed towards thevehicle (e.g. in your pocket).
The range between transmitter andvehicle is environmentally influencedand varies greatly.
PROGRAMMING THE
REMOTE CONTROL
A maximum of four remote controls(including the ones supplied with thevehicle) can be programmed.
To programme a new remotecontrol:
•Turn the ignition key to position IIfour times within six seconds.
•Switch off the ignition. A tonesounds to indicate that it is nowpossible to programme a newremote control.
•Press any button on a newremote control. A tone will soundas confirmation. Repeat this laststep for all of your remotecontrols, including the original.
•Switch the ignition back on or waitfor ten seconds withoutprogramming another remotecontrol to end remote controlprogramming. Only the remotecontrols which you have justprogrammed are now able to lockand unlock your vehicle.

You can change the unlockingfunction so that pressing the unlockbutton once deactivates the centrallocking or double locking, disarmsthe anti-theft alarm system andunlocks the driver’s door. Pressingthe unlock button twice within threeseconds also unlocks thepassengers’ doors.
If you want the tailgate to be lockedwhile driving, press the locking buttonon the driver’s door to activatecentral locking.
In order to re-programme thefunction, press and hold the unlockand lock buttons simultaneously forat least four seconds with the ignitionswitched off. The direction indicatorswill flash twice to indicate that theunlocking function has beensuccessfully re-programmed.
Pressing and holding both buttonssimultaneously for at least fourseconds again will change thefunction back.
CHANGING THE REMOTE
CONTROL BATTERY
If the range of the transmitter in thekey decreases gradually, the battery(type 3V CR 2032) should bereplaced.
•Carefully seperate the transmitterunit from the key using a flatobject (e.g. a screwdriver) at therecess on the back.
•Carefully prise out the battery withthe flat object. Fit the new batterybetween the contacts with the +sign facing downwards.Reassemble the transmitter unitin reverse order.
•Open the transmitter unit byseperating the retaining clips onthe sides with the flat object.

Doors
Locking and unlocking fromthe outside
All doors can be locked and unlockedfrom the outside with the key at thedriver’s door.
Locking and unlocking fromthe inside
When inside the vehicle, all doors canbe locked with the locking button Aon the driver’s door and unlockedusing the door handle B. To lock thepassenger’s door and the rear doorsindividually, depress the lockingbutton and close the door whenleaving the vehicle.

The tailgate can be opened: in thefollowing ways:

Closing the tailgate
WARNING
Close the tailgate properly toprevent it opening while you aredriving. Driving with the tailgate openis extremely dangerous as exhaustfumes can be drawn into thevehicle’s interior.
A recessed grip is incorporated insidethe tailgate to facilitate closing.
Central and double locking
WARNING
Double locking should not beactivated when people areinside the vehicle.
The central locking system can beactivated from the driver’s door. Itoperates only when the driver’s dooris closed. Other doors may still beopen. It is activated from the outsidewith the key or remote control, orfrom inside by depressing the lockingbutton on the door handle. Theluggage compartment remainslocked.

WARNING
If a failure occurs in the vehicle’selectrical system the front doorsor the rear door can still be individuallyunlocked with the key. The luggagecompartment (4-door saloon) canalso be opened with the key.

One flash of the direction indicatorsconfirms that all doors have beenunlocked, that the double lockingsystem is deactivated and that theanti-theft alarm system is disarmed.
Automatic relocking
To prevent the vehicle being leftunlocked inadvertently, centrallocking and the anti-theft alarmsystem will be reactivatedautomatically 45 seconds after thebutton is pressed if the followingoccurs during this period:
•No door is opened.
•The luggage compartment is notopened.
•The ignition is not switched on.
Unlocking the tailgate
To unlock only the tailgate when thevehicle is locked, press the unlockbutton twice within three seconds.
