1. POWER ON-OFF Control Knob
The radio unit may be operated when the ignition key is in the "ACC" or "ON"position. Press the knob to switch the power on. The LCD shows the radio frequency in the radio mode or the CDtrack indicator in the CD mode. To switch the power off, press the knob again. VOLUME Control Rotate the knob clockwise to increase the volume and turn the knob counter-clockwise to reduce the volume. BALANCE Control Pull and turn the control knob clockwise to emphasize right speaker sound (left speaker sound will be attenuated). Whenthe control knob is turned counterclock- wise, left speaker sound will be empha- sized (right speaker sound will be at-tenuated). 2. FAD (Fader Control) Knob Turn the control knob counterclockwise to emphasize front speaker sound (rearspeaker sound will be attenuated). When the control knob is turned clockwise, rear speaker sound will be emphasized(front speaker sound will be attenu- ated).
3. BASS Control Knob Press to pop the knob out and turn to the left or right for the desired basstone. TREB (Treble Control) Knob Pull the bass control knob further out. Turn to the left or right for the desired treble tone.
4. SCAN Button When the scan button is pressed, the frequency will increase and the receiv-able stations will be tuned in one after another, receiving each station for 5 seconds. To stop scanning, press thescan button again.5. TUNE (Manual) Select Button Press the ( ) side or ( ) side to increase or to decrease the frequency.Press either button and hold down to continuously scroll. Release button once the desired station is reached. SEEK Operation (Automatic Channel Selection) Press the TUNE select button for 0.5 sec or more. Releasing it will automati-cally tune to the next available station with a beep sound. When the ( ) side is pressed longerthan 0.5 second, releasing will auto- matically tune to the next higher fre- quency and when the ( ) side ispressed longer than 0.5 second, releas- ing will automatically tune to the next lower frequency.
6. BAND Selector Pressing the button changes the AM, FM1 and FM2 bands. The mode selected is displayed on LCD.

NOTE: Look at a tape before you insert it. If the tape is loose, tighten it by turning one of the hubs with a pencil or your finger.If the label is peeling off, do not put it in the drive mechanism. Do not leave tapes sitting wherethey are exposed to hot, warm, or high humidity, such as on top of the dashboard or in the player.If a tape is exposed to excessively hot or cold, let it reach a moderate temperature before putting it in theplayer. B870A01A-AAT Fixed Rod Antenna (If Installed) Your car uses a fixed rod antenna to receive both AM and FM broadcast signals. This antenna is a removable type. Toremove the antenna, turn the antenna counterclockwise. To install the an- tenna, turn the antenna clockwise.
CAUTION:
o Be sure to remove the antenna before washing the car in an auto-matic car wash or the antenna may be damaged.
! B870C01A-GAT Manual Antenna (If Installed) Your car uses a manual stainless steel antenna to receive both AM and FM broadcast signals. Pull up the antenna using your fingers, as shown in thedrawing. NOTE: Before entering an automatic car wash or a place with a low heightclearance, be sure that the antenna is fully retracted.

o When reinstalling your antenna, it
is important that it is fully tight- ened to ensure proper reception.

When installing a container of liquid air freshener inside the vehicle, do not place it near the instrument cluster nor on the instrument panel pad surface. If there is any leakage from the air freshener onto these areas (Instrument cluster, instrument panel pad or air ventilator), it may damage these parts. The driver's and front passenger's seatback should be tilted to enter the rear seat.By pulling up on the recliner control lever (1) at the outside of the driver's and front passenger's seat, the seatbackwill tilt forward and the seat will auto- matically slide forward. Rear seat occupants can tilt the frontpassenger seatback by depressing the foot lever (2) as shown in the drawing. (Front passenger's seat only)

Side airbag sensor
WARNING:
o The side impact airbag is supple- mental to the driver's and the passenger's three point seat beltsystems and is not a substitute for them. Therefore your seat belts must be worn at all times whilstthe vehicle is in motion. The airbags deploy only in certain side impact conditions severe enoughto cause significant injury to the vehicle occupants. HLC2036-D
o For best protection from the side
impact airbag system and to avoid being injured is by the deploying side impact airbag, both front seatoccupants should sit in an upright position with the seat belt prop- erly fastened. The driver's handsshould be placed on the steering wheel at the 9:00 and 3:00 o'clock positions. The passenger's armsand hands should be placed in their laps.
o Do not use any accessory seat covers.
o Use of seat covers could reduce or prevent the effectiveness of the system.
o Do not install any accessories on the side or near the side impactairbag.
o Do not use excessive force on the side of the seat.
o Do not place any objects over the airbag or between the airbag and yourself.o Do not place any objects (an um-brella, bag, etc.) between the front door and the front seat. Such ob- jects may become dangerous pro-jectiles and cause injury if the supplemental side impact air bag inflates.
o To prevent unexpected deploy- ment of the side impact air bagthat may result in personal injury, avoid impact to the side airbag sensor when the ignition key ison.

CIGAR LIGHTER

Do not use electric accessories or equipment other than the Hyundaigenuine parts in the socket.

For the cigar lighter to work, the keymust be in the "ACC" or the "ON" position. To use the cigar lighter, push the lighterall the way into its socket. When the element is heated, the lighter will pop out into the "ready" position.Do not hold the cigar lighter at the depressed position which may result in damage to the vehicle wiring or anelectrical fire. If it is necessary to replace the cigarette lighter, use only a genuine Hyundaireplacement part.

There are three control buttons for thedigital clock. Their functions are: HOUR - Push "H" to advance the hour
indicated.
MIN - Push "M" to advance the
minute indicated.
RESET - Push "R" to reset minutes to
":00" to facilitate resetting the clock to the correct time. When this is done:
Pressing "R" between 10 : 30 and 11 :29 changes the readout to 11 : 00.Pressing "R" between 11 : 30 and 12 : 29 changes the readout to 12 : 00. HLC2104-D

The boot lid or the hatchback door is opened by pulling the lever to releasethe lock, then raising the lid or the door manually. To close, lower the boot lid or thehatchback door, then press down on it until it locks. To be sure the boot lid or the hatchback door is securely fas-tened, always try to pull it up again.
WARNING:
The boot lid or the hatchback doorshould always be kept completely closed whilst the vehicle is in mo- tion. If it is left open or ajar, exhaustgases may enter the car and serious illness may result.
o The boot lid or the hatchback door is
opened by first turning the key clock- wise to release the lock, then raising the door manually.
o To close, lower the boot lid or the hatchback door , then press down onit until it locks. To be sure the boot lid or the hatchback door is securelyfastened, always try to pull it up again.

5STARTING
SC060A1-E Starting The Petrol Engine
1. Ensure that the transaxle is in neu-
tral and that the clutch pedal is held depressed (manual transaxle) or the transaxle selector is at the "P" posi- tion (automatic transaxle vehicle).
2. Turn the ignition key to and hold at the "START" position until the en-gine starts. When the engine hasstarted, release the key.

To Remove The Ignition Key
1. Turn the ignition key to the "ACC"
position.
2. Simultaneously push and turn the ignition key counterclockwise from the "ACC" position to the "LOCK"position.
3. The key can be removed in the
"LOCK" position. NOTE: Do not operate the starter for more than 15 seconds continuously or continue to operate the starter afterthe engine has started to avoid dam- aging the starter motor. If the en- gine makes a false start, allow it andthe starter motor to come to rest before attempting to start the en- gine again. Never attempt to startthe engine with the transaxle in gear. Do not depress the accelera- tor pedal whilst starting the engine.Allow the engine to idle for 20 sec- onds or so before driving the ve- hicle.
CAUTION:
Do not leave the vehicle unattendedwhilst idling. Never allow the ve- hicle to idle or warm up in a con- fined space (ie garage) longer thanis necessary to move the vehicle into an open area.

CAUTION:
Serious loss of coolant indicates there is a leak in the cooling systemand this should be checked as soon as possible by a Hyundai dealer. SD050A3-E The spare wheel is stored under the luggage compartment floor and is ac- cessed from within the luggage com- partment by lifting the carpet and thefloor panel. To remove the spare wheel, unscrew the retainer, rotating this in an anticlockwise direction and lift out the wheel. To replace the wheel, screw the retainer by hand until tight havinglocated the wheel in the luggage com- partment floor well. The inflation pres- sure of the spare wheel should bechecked at least monthly and when- ever the wheel is fitted to the vehicle. Spare Tyre Pressure

SD070E1-E 3. Loosen Wheel Nuts The wheel nuts should be loosened slightly before raising the car. To loosenthe nuts, turn the wheel brace counter- clockwise. Ensure that the wheel brace socket is seated properly on the nutand that it cannot slip. Do not remove the nuts at this stage. SD070G1-E 5. Raising the Car After inserting a wrench bar into the wheel nut wrench, install the wrenchbar into the jack as shown in the draw- ing. To raise the vehicle, turn the wheel nut wrench clockwise. As the jack be-gins to raise the vehicle, double check that it is properly positioned and will not slip. If the jack is on soft ground orsand, it may be necessary to place a stout piece of timber under the base of the jack to prevent it from sinking.Raise the car high enough so that the fully inflated spare wheel can be in- stalled.
D060E01A-AAT 4. Put the Jack in Place The base of the jack should be placed on firm, level ground. The jack shouldbe positioned as shown in the drawing.
