A code number is stamped on the number plate that came with the keys to your Hyundai. Thiskey number plate should not be left with the keysbut kept in a safe place, not in the vehicle. Thekey number should also be recorded in a placewhere it can be found in an emergency.If you need additional keys, or if you should loseyour keys, your authorized Hyundai dealer canmake new keys if you can supply the key num-ber.
o For the first 300 km (200 miles), try to avoid
hard stops.
o Don't lug the engine (in other words, don't drive so slowly in too high a gear that the
engine "bucks" shift to a lower gear).
o Whether going fast or slow, vary your speed from time to time.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than 3 minutes for a catalytic converter-equipped engine.
B030A01A-AAT KEYS For greater convenience, the same key operates all the locks in your Hyundai. However, becausethe doors can be locked without a key, carryinga spare key is recommended in case you acci-dentally lock one key inside the car.

B880B03A-GAT Keys All of the locks fitted to the vehicle are operated by the same key. However, since it is possible tolock the doors without the use of the key, careshould be exercised to ensure that the key doesnot become locked inside the vehicle by mistake. o The door can be locked or unlocked with a key.
o Lock the door by turning the key toward the front of the vehicle and unlock it by turning the key toward the rear.

CAUTION:
o If you fail to try the limp home procedurewith the sequence of three times, youhave to wait for about one hour to do thelimp home procedure again.
o If you cannot start your engine in spite of limp home procedure, have your vehicletowed by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

o Unlocked doors can be dangerous. Be- fore you drive away (especially if there are children in the car), be sure that all thedoors are securely closed and locked sothat the doors cannot be inadvertentlyopened from the inside. This helps ensurethat doors will not be opened accidentally.Also, when combined with the proper useof seat belts, locking the doors helps keepoccupants from being ejected from thecar in case of an accident.
o Before opening the door, always look for and avoid oncoming traffic. The doors can be locked without a key. Firstdepress the lock button, then close the door. NOTE:
o When locking the door this way, be careful
not to lock the door with the ignition keyleft in the vehicle.
o To prevent theft, always remove the igni- tion key, close all windows, and lock alldoors when leaving your vehicle unat-tended.

B040E03A-AAT CHILD-PROTECTOR REAR DOOR LOCK Your Hyundai is equipped with a "child-protec- tor" rear door lock assembly. When the lockmechanism is engaged, the rear door cannot beopened from the inside. It's use is recommendedwhenever there are small children in the rearseat.To engage the child-protector feature so that thedoor cannot be opened from the inside, move thechild-protector lever to the " " position andclose the door. Move the lever to the oppositedirection of " " position when normal dooroperation is desired.If you wish to be able to open the door from theoutside, the outside door handle will functionnormally.

B040D01X-AAT Locking from the Inside To lock your Hyundai from the inside, simply close the door and push the lock button down.When this is done, the door cannot be openedusing either the inside or the outside door handle.To unlock the car from the inside, pull up the lockbutton and then pull the inside door handle.

To move the seat toward the front or rear, pull
the lock release lever upward. This releases the seat on its track so you can move it forward orrearward to the desired position. When you findthe position you want, release the lever andslide the seat forward or rearward on its trackuntil it locks into the desired position and cannotbe moved further.

The seat belt cannot provide full pretection to an occupant if the seat back is reclined.
Headrests may provide protection againstneck injuries when properly adjusted.
B080C01A-AAT Adjusting Seatback Angle To recline the seatback, lean forward to take your weight off it, then pull up on the recliner controllever at the outside edge of the seat. Now leanback until the desired seatback angle is achieved.To lock the seatback into position, release therecliner control lever. WARNING: To minimize risk of severe injury in the eventof a collision or a sudden stop, both the driverand passenger seatbacks should always bein an upright position while the vehicle is inmotion. The protection provided by the seatbelts and airbags may be reduced signifi-cantly when the seatbacks are reclined. Thereis greater risk that the driver and passengerwill slide under the belt which may result inserious injury if a crash occurs when theseatbacks are reclined.

This system is controlled by the driver's door lock
and operates the passenger door locks. Whenthe driver's door is locked, the passenger doorsare locked automatically.If a rear door is open when the latch in depressed,it will remain locked when closed. If the frontpassenger door is open when the latch is locked,the outside door handle must be held in the raisedposition. When the door is closed, the door willremain locked. All doors will be unlocked auto-matically whenever the driver's door is unlockedwhether by key or latch. Indeed, your local's lawsmay require that some or all occupants of thevehicle use seat belts.

You can adjust the height of the front seat shoul- der belt anchor to one of 4 positions. The shoul-der belt should be adjusted so that it fits midwayover the shoulder, and NEVER across the neck.To adjust the height of the shoulder belt anchor,
pull on the height adjuster knob and then lower orraise the height adjuster into an appropriate. Toraise the height adjuster, pull it up. To lower it,push it down while pressing the height adjusterbutton. Release the knob to lock the anchor intoposition. Try to slide the anchor upward and
downward after releasing the knob to make surethat it has locked into position. WARNING:
o The height adjuster must be in the locked position whenever the vehicle is moving.
o The misadjustment of height of the shoul- der belt could reduce the effectiveness ofthe seat belt in a crash.
B160C01A-AAT Keep Belts Clean and DrySeat belts should be kept clean and dry. If belts become dirty, they can be cleaned by using amild soap solution and warm water. Bleach, dye,strong detergents or abrasives should not beused because they may damage and weakenthe fabric.
To fasten your seat belt, pull it out of the retractorand insert the metal tab into the buckle. There willbe an audible "click" when the tab locks into thebuckle.The seat belt automatically adjusts to the properlength only after the lap belt is adjusted manuallyso that it fits snugly around your hips.If you lean forward in a slow, easy motion, the beltwill extend and let you move around. If there is asudden stop or impact, however, the belt will lockinto position. It will also lock if you try to leanforward too quickly. Check to make sure that thebelt is properly locked and that the belt is nottwisted.

According to accident statis-tics, children are safer when properly restrainedin the rear seats than in the front seat. Largerchildren should use one of the seat belts pro-vided.You are required by law to use safety restraintsfor children. If small children ride in your vehicleyou must put them in a child restraint system(safety seat).Children could be injured in a crash if theirrestraints are not properly secured. For smallchildren and babies, a child seat or infant seatmust be used. Before buying a particular childrestraint system, make sure it fits your car seatand seat belts, and fits your child. Follow all theinstructions provided by the manufacturer wheninstalling the child restraint system. WARNING:
o A child restraint system must be placed in
the rear seat. Never install a child or infantseat on the front passenger's seat.Should an accident occur and cause thepassenger side airbag to deploy, it couldseverely injure or kill an infant or childseated in an infant or child seat. Thus, onlyuse a child restraint in the rear seat of yourvehicle.

WARNING: The center lap belt latching mechanism isdifferent from those for the rear seat shoul-der belts. When fastening the rear seat shoul-der belts or the center lap belt, make surethey are inserted into the correct buckle toobtain maximum protection from the seatbelt system and assure proper operation.

1- 12 After installation of the child restraint system, try to move it in all directions to be sure the childrestraint system is securely installed.If you need to tighten the belt, pull more webbingtoward the retractor. When you unbuckle theseat belt and allow it to retract, the retractor willautomatically revert back to its normal seatedpassenger emergency locking usage condition. NOTE:
o Before installing the child restraint sys-
tem, read the instructions supplied by thechild restraint system manufacturer.
o If the seat belt does not operate as de- scribed, have the system checked imme-diately by your authorized Hyundai dealer.
WARNING:Do not install any child restraint system in thefront passenger seat. Should an accidentoccur and cause the passenger side airbagto deploy, it could severely injure or kill aninfant or child seated in an infant or childseat. Therefore, only use a child restraintsystem in the rear seat of your vehicle.
o Since a safety belt or child restraint sys-
tem can become very hot if it is left in aclosed vehicle, be sure to check the seatcover and buckles before placing a childthere.
o When the child restraint system is not in use, fasten it with a safety belt so that itwill not be thrown forward in the case of asudden stop or an accident.
o Children who are too large to be in a child restraint should sit in the rear seat and berestrained with the available lap/shoulderbelts. Never allow children to ride in thefront passenger seat.
o Always make sure that the shoulder belt portion of the outboard lap/shoulder beltis positioned midway over the shoulder,never across the neck. Moving the childcloser to the center of the vehicle may helpprovide a good shoulder belt fit. The lapbelt portion of the lap/shoulder belt or thecenter seat lap belt must always be posi-tioned as low as possible on the child'ships and as snug as possible.
o If the seat belt will not properly fit the child, we recommend the use of an ap-proved booster seat in the rear seat inorder to raise the child's seating height sothat the seat belt will properly fit the child.
o Never allow a child to stand up or kneel on the seat.
o Never use an infant carrier or child safety seat that "hooks" over a seatback; it may not provide adequate security in an acci-dent.
o Never allow a child to be held in a person's arms while they are in a moving vehicle, asthis could result in serious injury to thechild in the event of an accident or asudden stop. Holding a child in a movingvehicle does not provide the child withany means of protection during an acci-dent, even if the person holding the childis wearing a seat belt.

To install a child restraint system in the outboard rear seats, extend the shoulder/lap belt from itsretractor. Install the child restraint system, bucklethe seat belt and allow the seat belt to take up anyslack. Make sure that the lap portion of the belt istight around the child restraint system and theshoulder portion of the belt is positioned so thatit cannot interfere with the child's head or neck.

Your Hyundai is equipped with a Supplemental Restraint (Airbag) System. The indications of thesystem's presence are the letters "SRS AIRBAG"embossed on the airbag pad cover in the steeringwheel and the passenger's side front panel padabove the glove box. The Hyundai SRS consists of airbags installed under the pad covers in the center of the steeringwheel and the passenger's side front panel abovethe glove box. The purpose of the SRS is toprovide the vehicle's driver and the front passen-ger with additional protection when used to-gether with the seat belt, in case of a frontalimpact. NOTE: Be sure to read information about the SRS onthe labels provided on the backside of thesun visor and in the glove box.
B180B01X-GAT Pre-tensioner Seat Belt (If installed)Ordinarily the pre-tensioner seat belt operates in the same way as E.L.R (Emergency LockingRetractor) type (When vehicles stop suddenly,
the belt will lock into the position. It will alsolock if you try to lean forward too quickly.) .
However, when vehicles crash, the retractorrewinds the belt webbing. This will restrain thepassenger movement quickly and also reducethe slack between passenger and belt webbing. NOTE:
o When the pre-tensioner seat belt is acti- vated, there may be an explosion noise.This noise is normal and is not hazardous.
o Pre-tensioner seat belt is designed to op- erate only when a sufficiently severe im-pact occurs and it will be only operatedonce.
WARNING:If the pre-tensioner seat belt was activated,never attempt to replace it by yourself. It mustbe replaced by an authorized Hyundai Dealer.
