Lubricant Adjusting Procedure for Components

Lubricant Adjusting Procedure for Compressor
Replacement
NBHA0071S02021. Before connecting ACR4 to vehicle, check ACR4 gauges. No
refrigerant pressure should be displayed. If NG, recover refrig-
erant from equipment lines.
2. Connect ACR4 to vehicle. Confirm refrigerant purity in supply
tank using ACR4 and refrigerant identifier. If NG, refer to
ªCONTAMINATED REFRIGERANTº, HA-2.
3. Confirm refrigerant purity in vehicle A/C system using ACR4
and refrigerant identifier. If NG, refer to ªCONTAMINATED
REFRIGERANTº, HA-2.
4. Discharge refrigerant into the refrigerant recovery/recycling
equipment. Measure lubricant discharged into the recovery/
recycling equipment.
5. Remove the drain plug of the ªoldº (removed) compressor.
Drain the lubricant into a graduated container and record the
amount of drained lubricant.
6. Remove the drain plug and drain the lubricant from the ªnewº
compressor into a separate, clean container.
7. Measure an amount of new lubricant installed equal to amount
drained from ªoldº compressor. Add this lubricant to ªnewº com-
pressor through the suction port opening.
8. Measure an amount of new lubricant equal to the amount
recovered during discharging. Add this lubricant to ªnewº com-
pressor through the suction port opening.
9. Torque the drain plug.
18 - 19 N´m (1.8 - 1.9 kg-m, 13 - 14 ft-lb)
10. If the liquid tank also needs to be replaced, add an additional
5m(0.2 US fl oz, 0.2 Imp fl oz) of lubricant at this time.
Do not add this 5 m(0.2 US fl oz, 0.2 Imp fl oz) of lubri-
cant if only replacing the compressor.

5. If a leak detector detects a leak, verify at least once by blow-
ing compressed air into area of suspected leak, then repeat
check as outlined above.
6. Do not stop when one leak is found. Continue to check for
additional leaks at all system components.
If no leaks are found, perform steps7-10.
7. Start engine.
8. Set the heater A/C control as follows:
1) A/C switch ON.
2) Face mode
3) Recirculation switch ON
4) Max cold temperature
5) Fan speed high
9. Run engine at 1,500 rpm for at least 2 minutes.
10. Turn engine off and perform leak check again following steps
4 through 6 above.

Refrigerant leaks should be checked immediately after
stopping the engine. Begin with the leak detector at the
compressor. The pressure on the high pressure side will
gradually drop after refrigerant circulation stops and pres-
sure on the low pressure side will gradually rise, as shown
in the graph. Some leaks are more easily detected when
pressure is high.
11. Before connecting ACR4 to vehicle, check ACR4 gauges. No
refrigerant pressure should be displayed. If pressure is
displayed, recover refrigerant from equipment lines and then
check refrigerant purity.
12. Confirm refrigerant purity in supply tank using ACR4 and refrig-
erant identifier.
13. Confirm refrigerant purity in vehicle A/C system using ACR4
and refrigerant identifier.
14. Discharge A/C system using approved refrigerant recovery
equipment. Repair the leaking fitting or component as neces-
sary.
15. Evacuate and recharge A/C system and perform the leak test
to confirm no refrigerant leaks.
16. Conduct A/C performance test to ensure system works
properly.

Trouble Diagnoses Introduction=NBRS0040CAUTION:
IDo not use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this
Service Manual. Spiral cable and wiring harnesses covered with yellow insulation tape either just
before the harness connectors or for the complete harness are related to the SRS.
IDo not attempt to repair, splice or modify the SRS wiring harness. If the harness is damaged,
replace it with a new one.
IKeep ground portion clean.
DIAGNOSIS FUNCTIONNBRS0040S01The SRS self-diagnosis results can be read by using ªAIR BAGº warning lamp and/or CONSULT-II. The read-
ing of these results is accomplished using one of two modes Ð ªUser modeº and ªDiagnosis modeº.
The User mode is exclusively prepared for the customer (driver). This mode warns the driver of a system
malfunction through the operation of the ªAIR BAGº warning lamp.
The Diagnosis mode allows the technician to locate and inspect the malfunctioning part.
The mode applications for the ªAIR BAGº warning lamp and CONSULT-II are as follows:

NOTE:
Seat belt pre-tensioner malfunction is indicated by ªAIR BAGº warning lamp.
DIAGNOSIS MODE FOR CONSULT-IINBRS0040S02IªSELF-DIAG [CURRENT]º
A current Self-diagnosis result (also indicated by the number of warning lamp flashes in the Diagnosis
mode) is displayed on the CONSULT-II screen in real time. This refers to a malfunctioning part requiring
repairs.
IªSELF-DIAG [PAST]º
Diagnosis results previously stored in the memory are displayed on the CONSULT-II screen. The stored
results are not erased until memory erasing is executed.
IªTROUBLE DIAG RECORDº
With TROUBLE DIAG RECORD, diagnosis results previously erased by a reset operation can be displayed
on the CONSULT-II screen.
IªECU DISCRIMINATED NO.º
The diagnosis sensor unit for each vehicle model is assigned with its own, individual classification num-
ber. This number will be displayed on the CONSULT-II screen, as shown below. When replacing the diag-
nosis sensor unit, refer to the part number for the compatibility. After installation, replacement with a cor-
rect unit can be checked by confirming this classification number on the CONSULT-II screen.

HOW TO CHANGE SELF-DIAGNOSIS MODE WITHOUT CONSULT-IINBRS0040S04From User Mode to Diagnosis ModeNBRS0040S0401Diagnosis mode activates only when a malfunction is detected, by turning ignition switch as follows:
1) Turn ignition switch ªONº.
2) After ªAIR BAGº warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, turn ignition switch ªOFFº within 1 second.
3) Wait more than 3 seconds.
4) Repeat steps 1 to 3 three times.
5) Turn ignition switch ªONº.
SRS will not enter Diagnosis mode, if no malfunction is detected.
From Diagnosis Mode to User ModeNBRS0040S0402After a malfunction is repaired, switch the ignition ªOFFº for at least one second, then back ªONº. Diagnosis
mode is returned to User mode.
If switching Diagnosis mode to User mode is required while malfunction is being detected, by turning ignition
switch as follows:
1) Turn ignition switch ªONº.
2) After ªAIR BAGº warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, turn ignition switch ªOFFº within 1 second.
3) Wait more than 3 seconds.
4) Repeat steps 1 to 3 three times.
5) Turn ignition switch ªONº.

to the self-diagnostic result. For replacement procedure of
component parts, refer to RS-15.
15. Go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 3, page RS-42, for final
checking.
