Diagnostic Procedure=NBAT0216
1 CHECK DTC
With CONSULT-II
1. Turn ignition switch ªONº and select ªSELF DIAG RESULTSº mode for A/T with CONSULT-II.
2. Move selector lever to ªRº position.
3. Depress accelerator pedal (Full throttle position).
4. Touch ªERASEº.
5. Turn ignition switch ªOFFº position for 10 seconds.
PERFORM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE.

Is the ªCONTROL UNIT (EEP ROM)º displayed again?
Ye s©Replace TCM.

1. O/D OFF Indicator Lamp Does Not Come OnNBAT0073SYMPTOM:
O/D OFF indicator lamp does not come on for about 2 seconds
when turning ignition switch to ªONº.
1 CHECK TCM POWER SOURCE STEP 1
1. Turn ignition switch to ON position.
(Do not start engine.)
2. Check voltage between TCM terminals 10, 19, 28 and ground.

2 CHECK TCM POWER SOURCE STEP 2
1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
2. Check voltage between TCM terminal 28 and ground.

3 DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
Check the following items:
IHarness for short or open between ignition switch and TCM terminals 10, 19 and 28 (Main harness)
IIgnition switch and 10A or 7.5A fuse [No. 18 or 24, located in the fuse block (J/B)]
Refer to EL-9, ªSchematicº.
OK or NG
OK©GO TO 4.
NG©Repair or replace damaged parts.

4 CHECK TCM GROUND CIRCUIT
1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
2. Disconnect TCM harness connector.
3. Check continuity between TCM terminals 25, 48 and ground. Refer to wiring diagram Ð AT Ð MAIN.
Continuity should exist.
If OK, check harness for short to ground and short to power.
OK or NG
OK©GO TO 5.
NG©Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
5 CHECK LAMP CIRCUIT
1. Turn ignition switch to ªONº position.
2. Set overdrive control switch to ªONº position.
3. Check voltage between TCM terminals 13 and ground.

6 CHECK MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
Check the following items:

IO/D OFF indicator lamp

IHarness for short or open between O/D OFF indicator lamp and TCM
OK or NG

2 CHECK PNP SWITCH CIRCUIT (With CONSULT-II)
With CONSULT-II
1. Turn ignition switch to ªONº position.
(Do not start engine.)
2. Select ªTCM INPUT SIGNALSº in ªDATA MONITORº mode for ªA/Tº with CONSULT-II.
3. Read out ªPº, ªRº, ªNº, ªDº, ª2º and ª1º position switches moving selector lever to each position. Check the signal of the
selector lever position is indicated properly.

3 CHECK PNP SWITCH CIRCUIT (Without CONSULT-II)

1. Turn ignition switch to ªONº position.
(Do not start engine.)
2. Check voltage between TCM terminals 26, 27, 34, 35, 36 and ground while moving selector lever through each posi-
tion.

5 CHECK OVERDRIVE CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT
With CONSULT-II
1. Turn ignition switch to ªONº position.
(Do not start engine.)
2. Select ªTCM INPUT SIGNALSº in ªDATA MONITORº mode for ªA/Tº with CONSULT-II.
3. Read out ªOVERDRIVE SWITCHº. Check the signal of the overdrive control switch is indicated properly.
(Overdrive control switch ªONº displayed on CONSULT-II means overdrive ªOFFº.)

7 CHECK THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH CIRCUIT (With CONSULT-II)
With CONSULT-II
1. Turn ignition switch to ªONº position.
(Do not start engine.)
2. Select ªTCM INPUT SIGNALSº in ªDATA MONITORº mode for ªA/Tº with CONSULT-II.
3. Apply vacuum to the throttle opener, then check the following. Refer to steps 1 and 2 of ªPreparationº, ªTCM SELF-
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (No Tools)º, AT-46.
4. Read out ªCLOSED THL/SWº and ªW/O THRL/P-SWº depressing and releasing accelerator pedal.
Check the signal of throttle position switch is indicated properly.

9 CHECK THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH CIRCUIT (Without CONSULT-II)
Without CONSULT-II
1. Turn ignition switch to ªONº position.
(Do not start engine.)
2. Check voltage between TCM terminals 16, 17 and ground while depressing, and releasing accelerator pedal slowly.
(after warming up engine)

changing temperature as shown at left.

Diagnostic ProcedureNBAT0095SYMPTOM 1:
ISelector lever cannot be moved from ªPº position with key
in ªONº position and brake pedal applied.
ISelector lever can be moved from ªPº position with key in
ªONº position and brake pedal released.
ISelector lever can be moved from ªPº position when key
is removed from key cylinder.
SYMPTOM 2:
Ignition key cannot be removed when selector lever is set to
ªPº position. It can be removed when selector lever is set to
any position except ªPº.
1 CHECK KEY INTERLOCK CABLE
Check key interlock cable for damage.

NG©Repair key interlock cable. Refer to ªKey Interlock Cableº, AT-271.
2 CHECK SELECTOR LEVER POSITION
Check selector lever position for damage.

trol Linkage Adjustmentº, AT-276 and AT-276.
3 CHECK POWER SOURCE
1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. (Do not start engine.)
2. Check voltage between A/T device harness terminal 5 and ground.
