BONNET
OPENING fig. 67
Proceed as follows:
❍ pull lever A in the direction indicated b y the arrow;
❍ operate lever B a s s hown in the figure;
❍ lift the bonnet and, at the s ame time, release stay rod
C from its catch, then ins ert the end of the rod into
hous ing D in the bonnet (larger hole) and pu sh to s afe-
t y pos ition (s maller hole), as s hown in the diagram.
Incorrect positioning of the stay rod may
cause the bonnet to drop suddenly. Perform
these operations when the car is stationary
only.
Before lifting the bonnet, ensure that the
wiper arm is not lifted from the windscreen.

SAFETY
SEAT BELTSUSING THE SEAT BELTS fig. 1
The seat belt should be worn keeping the torso straight
and rested against the backrest.
To fasten the seat belts, hold the tongue A and insert it in-
to the buckle B, until it clicks into place. If the seat belt
jams during removal, let it rewind for a short stretch, then
pull it out again without jerking.
The retractor may lock when the car is parked on a steep
slope: this is normal. Furthermore, the retractor mecha-
nism locks the belt if it is pulled sharply or in the event
of sudden braking, collisions and high-speed bends. The
rear seat is fitted with inertia seat belts with three anchor
points and a retractor.
The rear seat belts must be used as shown in the diagram
in fig. 2.
Never press button C when travelling.Remember that, in the event of a violent col-
lision, back-seat passengers not wearing seat
belts represent a serious danger to the front-
seat passengers as well as to themselves.

To unfasten the seat belts, press button C. Guide the seat
belt with your hand while it is rewinding, to prevent it
from twisting. Through the retractor, the seat belt auto-
matically adapts to the body of the occupant wearing it,
allowing freedom of movement.

FITTING THE “UNIVERSAL” CHILD
RESTRAINT SYSTEM
(with seat belts)
GROUP 0 and 0+ Children up to 13 kg must be carried with rear-facing
restraint system of a type as shown in fig. 4 which, sup-
porting the head, does not induce stress on the neck in the
event of sudden decelerations.
The restraint system is restrained by the car seat belts as
shown in fig. 6 and it must restrain the child in turn with
its own belts.
The diagram is indicative and for fitting
purposes only. Refer to the instructions
which must be supplied with the child re-
straint system.

Children from 9 to 18 kg may be carried in forward fac-
ing child restraint systems fig. 7. GROUP 1

purposes only. Refer to the instructions
which must be supplied with the child re-
straint system.
Child restraint systems with Isofix attach-
ments are available, which allow them to be
secured to the seat safely without using the
car seat belts. For this type of seats see paragraph
“ISOFIX child restraint system setup” in this
chapter.

GROUP 2
Children from 15 to 25 kg may use the car seat belts di-
rectly, fig. 8.In this case, the child restraint system is used only to po-
sition the child correctly with respect to the seat belts so
that the diagonal belt section crosses the child’s chest and
not the neck, and the lower part is snug on the pelvis,
not the abdomen.
The diagram is indicative and for fitting
purposes only. Refer to the instructions
which must be supplied with the child re-
straint system.

SAFETY
GROUP 3 For children between 22 kg and 36 kg, there are dedicated
restraint systems that allow the seat belt to be worn cor-
rectly.
Figure 9 shows correct child seat positioning on the rear
seat. Children over 1.50 m in height can wear seat belts
like adults.
The diagram is indicative and for fitting
purposes only. Refer to the instructions
which must be supplied with the child re-
straint system.

“ISOFIX” CHILD RESTRAINT
SYSTEM SETUP The car is equipped with ISOFIX anchorages, a new stan-
dard which makes fitting a child restraint system quick,
simple and safe.
It is possible to fit a mix of
traditional and Isofix child restraint systems on different
seats in the same car.
An example of a Universal Isofix child restraint system for
weight group 1 is shown in fig. 10.The other weight groups are covered by specific Isofix child
restraint systems, which can be used only if specifically
tested for this car (see list of cars provided wi
th the child
restraint system).

STARTING AND DRIVING
USING THE GEARBOX To engage the gears, press the clutch pedal fully and shift
the gear lever into the required position (the gear diagram
varies according to the different versions and is shown
on the knob or on the plate below the lever fig. 2).
To engage 6
thgear, operate the lever by pressing it towards
the right in order to avoid engaging 4
thgear by mistake.
The same goes for changing from 6
thto 5
th.
IMPORTANT The car can only be put into reverse gear
when it has stopped moving completely. With the engine
running, wait at least 2 seconds before engaging reverse
gear with the clutch pedal fully depress in order to avoid
damaging or grinding the gears.
fig. 2
L0E0073m
To engage reverse gear R from neutral, raise sliding ring
A under the knob and at the same time move the gear lever
to the left and then forwards.
To engage reverse R from neutral, lift the sliding ring A
under the knob and move the gear lever to the right and
then backwards.
IMPORTANT The clutch pedal should be used only to
change gear. Do not drive with your foot resting on the
clutch pedal, however lightly. For versions/markets where
provided, the electronic clutch pedal control could cut in,
interpreting the incorrect driving style as a fault.
Press the clutch pedal fully to change gears
correctly. Therefore, the floor area under the
pedal unit should be clear: ensure that any
mats are flat and do not interfere with the pedals.Do not drive with your hand resting on the
gear lever, because this pressure, even if light,
can wear out the internal components of the
gearbox over time.
