16KNOWING YOUR CAR
Degraded engine oil should be replaced as
soon as possible after the warning light comes
on, and never more than 500 km after it first
comes on. Failure to observe the above indications
may result in severe damage to the engine and in-
validate the warranty. Remember that when the
warning light comes on, it does not mean that the
level of engine oil is low, so if the light flashes you
definitely do not need to top up the engine oil.
“Dualdrive” electric power steerin g
failure (red)
This warning light switches on when the igni-
tion key is turned to MAR, but it should switch off
after a few s econds.
The electric power steering system will not work when the
warning light i s on and cons iderably more effort is needed
on the s teering wheel. The car can still be s teered. In this
cas e, go to a Lancia Dealer ship. The dis play will s how the
dedicated me ssage.
g
“Dualdrive” electric steering engagement
The warning light s witches on (or the word
“CITY” appear s on the dis play) when the
“Dual drive” electric power steering system is ac-
tivated by pressing the relevant control button. If the but-
ton is pressed again the word CITY goes out.
CITY
2. Degraded eng ine oil (only versions with DPF)
The warning light will turn on fla shing together with the
message on the di splay (for vers ions/markets where pro-
vided). Depending on the ver sions , the warning light fla sh-
ing mode s are as follows :
– for 1 minute ever y two hours ;
– cy cles of 3 minutes with intervals with the warning light
off for 5 s econds until the oil is changed.
After the firs t indication, at each engine s tart up the warn-
ing light will continue flas hing as described above until
the oil is changed. The dis play (for vers ions/markets ,
where provided), s hows a dedicated message together with
the warning light.
The flas hing of the warning light s hould not be consid-
er
ed as a fault, it s imply informs the customer that the
oil needs to be changed following normal car u se.
Remember that the deterioration of the engine oil i s accel-
erated by :
– mainly town use of the car which make s the DPF re-
generation proce ss more frequent
– us e of the vehicle for s hort drives, in which the engine
does not have time to reach its regular operating tem-
perature
– repeated interruption of the regeneration proce ss, sig-
nalled by the DPF warning light switching on.

Engine coolant overheating (red)
Turning the key to the MAR pos ition illumi-
nates the warning light, but it s hould switch off
after a few s econds. The warning light turn s on
when the engine is overheated. If the warning light s witch-
e s on when driving, proceed a s follows :
❍ when driving normally : stop the car, s witch off the en-
gine and check that the water level in the re servoir is
not below the MIN mark. If it is, wait for the engine
to cool down, then slowly and carefull y open the cap,
top up with coolant and check that the level is between
the MIN and MAX mark s on the res ervoir. Also check
vis ually for any fluid leaks . in this case, go to a Lan-
cia Dealers hip if the warning light should switch on
when the engine is started again.
❍ if the vehicle is used under demanding condition s (e.g.
towing trailers uphill or fully loaded): slow down and,
if the light s tays on, stop the car
. Wait for 2 or 3 min-
utes with the engine running and slightly accelerated
to further favour the coolant circulation. Then stop the
engine. Check the correct coolant level a s des cribed
above. IMPORTANT Over demanding routes
, it is advis able to
keep the engine on and s lightly accelerated for a few min-
utes before s witching it off. The di splay will s how the ded-
icated message.

TRIP COMPUTER
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Trip computer is used to dis play information on car
operation when the ke y i s turned to MAR. This function
i s compos ed of separate trips , called “Trip A” and “Trip
B” which can monitor the entire mi ssion (journey) in a
reciprocally independent manner.
Both function s can be res et (reset means s tart of a new
journey ). “Trip A” is used to dis play the figures relat-
ing to:
– Range
– Trip dis tance
– Average cons umption
– Ins tantaneous consumption
– Average s peed
– Travel time (driving time).
– Trip A Res et
“Trip B” may be used to dis play the figures relating to:
– Dis tance travelled B
– Average cons umption B
– Average s peed B
– Trip time B (driving time).
– Trip B Res et N.B. “Trip B” ma
y be dis abled (s ee “Activating T
rip B”).
“Range” and “In stant cons umption” parameters cannot
be res et.
Values displa yed
Range
This indicates the approximate di stance which can be trav-
elled with the amount of fuel pre sent in the tank. The di s-
play will s how the reading ‘----’ when the following events
take place:
– range value lower than 50 km (or 30 mi)
– in cas e of car parked with engine running for an ex-
tended period.
IMPORTANT The range can be affected b y s everal fac-
tors : driving s ty le (s ee “Driving s ty le” in the “S tarting and
driving” chapter), ty pe of route (motorway , towns and
cities , mountain roads , etc.), conditions of use (load, ty re
pressures , etc.). Trip planning mus t therefore take the
above into account.
Distance travelled
This indicates the approximate dis tance covered from the
s tart of the new mi ssion.

IMPORTANT The engine immobiliser function is guar-
anteed by the Lancia CODE, which is automatically ac-
tivated when the ignition ke y i s extracted from the s tarter
device.
TURNING THE ALARM ON
With the doors and bonnet clos ed and the ignition key
either turned to S TOP or removed, point the ke y with the
remote control toward s the vehicle and press and releas e
button
Á.
Excluding some markets , the system produce s an acous tic
s ignal (beep) and enable s door locking.
The switching on of the alarm i s preceded by a self-diag-
nos is s tage: if a fault is detected, the system emits a new
acous tic signal together with the di splay of a message (s ee
“Panel warning light s” chapter).
In this case switch off the alarm by pressing
Ë, check that
all the doors , bonnet and tailgate are clo sed correctly ; then
s witch the alarm back on b y pressing
Á.
If a door or the bonnet i s not properly s hut, it will be ex-
cluded from the tes ting by the alarm system.
If the alarm emits an acoustic signal even when the door s,
bonnet and tailgate are correctl y clo sed, a failure has oc-
curred in system operation. Contact a Lancia Dealer ship. IMPORTANT Centrall
y locking the door s u sing the met-
al ins ert on the key does not activate the alarm.
IMPORTANT The alarm is adapted to meet requirement s
in various countries.
TURNING THE ALARM OFF
Press button
Ëon the key with the remote control.
The following operation s are performed (excluding some
markets ):
❍ the direction indicator s flas h briefly twice;
❍ two brief acou stic signals are emitted (“BEEP”);
❍ the doors are unlocked.
IMPORTANT Activating the central opening us ing the
key ’s metal ins ert does not turn the alarm off.

IGNITION SWITCH
The key can be turned to 3 different po sitions fig. 19:
❍ STOP: engine off, key can be removed, steering locked.
S ome electrical device s (e.g. s ound system, central door
locking system, etc.) can operate.
❍ MAR: driving pos ition. All electrical device s can op-
erate.
❍ AVV: engine s tarting.
The ignition s witch is fitted with a safety system that re-
quires the ignition key to be turned back to STOP if the
engine does not start, before the s tarting operation can be
repeated. S
TEERING LOC K
Activation
When the ke y i s at S TOP, remove the key and turn the
s teering wheel until it locks .
Diseng agement
Move the s teering wheel s lightly as y ou turn the ignition
key to MAR.
IMPORTANT In s ome parking conditions (e.g.: wheels
turned) the effort r
equired to move the s teering wheel and
dis engage the steering lock ma y be increas ed.
fig. 19L0E0107m
Never remove the key while the car is mov-
ing. The steering wheel will lock as soon as
it is turned. This holds true for cars being
towed as well. Under no circumstances should af-
termarket operations be carried out involving steer-
ing system or steering column modifications (e.g.
installation of anti-theft device). This could nega-
tively affect performance and safety, invalidate the
warranty, cause serious safety problems and also
result in vehicle non-compliance with type-ap-
proval requirements.

pull the s talk towards the steering wheel and move it with-
in 2 minute s of the engine s witching off. Each time the
s talk is moved, the light s s tay on for an extra 30 seconds
up to a maximum of 210 seconds ; then the light s are
s witched off automaticall y. Each time the lever i s oper-
ated, the warning light 3 on the in strument panel come s
on and the dis play s hows how long the function will r
e-
main active. The warning light come s on when the s talk
i s pulled for the firs t time and stays lit until the function
s witches itself off automatically . Each time the stalk is ac-
tivated it increas es the time that the lights remain on.
Deactivation
Keep the s talk pulled towards the steering wheel for more
than two s econds.

(in the different pos itions) timed with the winds creen
wiper, but at half speed. With the wind screen wiper on,
engaging revers e gear will automaticall y turn the rear win-
dow wiper on, in continuou s s low operation. Operation
s tops when revers e is dis engaged.
Do not use the windscreen or rear window
wiper to remove layers of snow or ice from
the windscreen. In such conditions, the wiper
may be subjected to excessive stress and the motor
protection, which prevents operation for a few sec-
onds, may intervene. If rear window wiper opera-
tion is not reset, contact a Lancia Dealership.
“ S mart washing ” function
Pus hing the s talk toward s the da shboard (uns table posi-
tion) will activate the rear window wa sher.
Keep the s talk pressed, with ju st one movement, to operate
the rear window wa sher jet and the rear window wiper it-
