Position of the steering wheel for driv-
ing The steering wheel is moved to the previously
set position if:
R the driver's door is closed and you insert the
key into the ignition lock
R you close the driver's door when the ignition
is switched on
R you press the Start/Stop button once on vehi-
cles with KEYLESS-GO
i The steering wheel only returns to the last
set position if the driving position is stored
after the seat or steering column has been
adjusted (Y page 116).
The most recent driving position of the steering
wheel is stored if:
R the ignition is switched off
R the settingiss tored using the memory func-
tion (Y page 116)
Crash-responsive EASY-EXIT feature If the crash-responsive EASY-EXIT feature is trig-
gered in an accident, the steering column will
move upwards when the driver's door is opened
or the key is removed from the ignition lock. This
makes it easier to exit the vehicle and rescue the
occupants.
The crash-responsive EASY-EXIT feature is only
operational if the EASY-EXIT/ENTRY feature is
activated in the multimedia system (see the sep-
arate operating instructions). Mirrors

The exterior mirrors reduce the size of the
image. Objectsv isible in the mirrors are
closer than they appear. You could misjudge
the distance from road users driving behind
you when changing lanes, for instance. There is ar isk of an accident.
You should therefore always look over your
shoulder to determine the actual distance
from road users driving behind you.

Press memory button M: and one of the
arrows on adjustmen tbutton ;within three
seconds.
The parking position is stored if the exterior
mirror does not move.
X If the mirror moves out of position, repeat the
steps.
X After successfully storing, reset the driving
position of the exterior mirror.
Calling up astored parking position X
Turn the key to position 2in the ignition lock
(Y page 145).
X Adjust the exterior mirror on the front-
passenger side using button =.
X Engage reverse gear.
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger
side moves to the stored parking position.
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger side
moves back to its original position:
R as soon as you exceed aspeed of 15 km/h
R about ten seconds after you have disengaged
reverse gear
R if you press button ?for the exterior mirror

If you use the memory function on the driver's side while driving, the adjustments could
cause you to lose control of the vehicle. There
is ar isk of an accident.
Only use the memory function on the driver's
side while the vehicle is stationary. G
WARNING
When the memory function adjusts the seat or steerin gwheel, you and other vehicle occu-
pants –particularly children –could become
trapped. There is arisk of injury.
While the memory function is making adjust-
ments, make sure that no one has any body
parts in the sweep of the seat or steering
wheel. If somebody becomes trapped, imme- diately release the memory function position
button .The adjustmen tprocess is stopped. G
WARNING
If children activat ethe memory function, they
could become trapped, especially if they are
unattended. There is arisk of injury.
When leaving the vehicle, alway stake the key
with you and lock the vehicle. Never leave
children unattended in the vehicle.
The memory function can be used at any time,
e.g. even when the key is not in the ignition lock. Storing settings
With the memory function, you can store up to
three different settings, e.g. for three different
people.
The following settings are stored as asingle
memory preset:
R position of the seat, backrest and head
restraint
R driver's side: position of the exterior mirrors
on the driver's and front-passenger sides
R position of the head-up display X
Adjust the seat accordingly (Y page 104).
X On the driver's side, adjust the steerin gwheel
(Y page 111) and the exterior mirrors
(Y page 113).
X Press memory button Mand then press save
position button 1,2or 3within three sec-
onds.
The settings are stored in the selected preset
position. Atones ounds when the settings

The light setting is automatically selected
accordin
gtothe brightness of the ambient light
(exception: poor visibility due to weather condi- tions such as fog, snow or spray):
R key in position 1in the ignition lock: the side
lamps are switched on or off automatically
depending on the brightness of the ambient
light.
R with the engine running: depending on the
ambient light conditions, the daytime driving
lights or the side lamps and dipped-beam
headlamps are switched on or off automati-
cally.
X To switch on the automatic headlamps:
turn the light switch to the
Ãposition. G
WARNING
When the light switch is set to Ã,the
dipped-beam headlamps may not be switched on automatically if there is fog, snow or othercauses of poor visibility due to the weather
conditions such as spray. There is arisk of an
accident.
In such situations, turn the light switch to
L.
The automatic headlamp feature is only an aid.
The driver is responsible for the vehicle lighting at all times.
The daytime driving lights improve the detecta-
bility of your vehicle during the day.
When the side lamps and dipped-beam head-
lamps are switched on, the green T(side
lamps) and L(dipped-beam headlamps)
indicator lamps in the instrument cluster light
up.
Dipped-beam headlamps When the ignition is switched on and the light
switch is in the Lposition, the side lamps
and dipped-beam headlamps are switched on
even if the light sensor does not sense dark
ambient light conditions. This is advantageous
when there is fog or rain.
X To switch on the dipped-beam headlamps:
turn the key in the ignition lock to position 2
or start the engine.
X Turn the light switch to the Lposition.
The green Lindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster lights up. Rear fog lamp
The rear foglamp improves the visibility of your
vehicle in heavy fog for the following traffic.
Please observe the country-specific laws on the
use of rear foglamps.
X To switch on the rear foglamp: turn the key
in the ignition lock to position 2or start the
engine.
X Turn the light switch to the LorÃ
position.
X Press the Rbutton.
The yellow Rindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster lights up.
X To switch off the rear foglamp: press the
R button.
The yellow Rindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster goes out.
Side lamps
! If the battery has been discharged to
alow
charge level, the side lamps or parking lamps
are automatically switched off to enable the
next engine start .Always leave your vehicle in
as afe position and adequately lit in accord-
ance with traffic regulations. Avoid using the
side lamps Tforaperiod of several hours.
If possible, switch on the right Xor left
W parking lamp.
X To switch on: turn the light switch to the
T position.
The green Tindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster lights up.
Parking lamps Switching on the parking lamps ensures that the
corresponding side of the vehicle is illuminated.
X To switch on the parking lamps: the key
should not be in the ignition lock or it should
be in position 0.
X Turn the light switch to the W(left-hand
side of the vehicle) or X(right-hand side of

In ver yrarec ases, Adaptive Highbeam Assist
Plus may no trecognise road user swho do
have lights ,ormay recognise them to olate. In
this, or in similar situations, th eautomatic
main-beam headlamps will no tbedeactivated
or will be activated despit ethe presence of
other road users. Ther eisariskofana cci-

Always carefully observ ethe traffic conditions
and switch off th emain-beam headlamps in
goo dtime.
Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus canno ttak einto

Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus is only an aid.
You are responsible for adjusting th evehicle's
lighting to th eprevailing light, visibilit yand traf-
fic conditions.
In particular, th edetection of obstacles can be
restricted if there is:
R poor visibility, e.g. due to fog ,heav yrain or
snow
R dirt on th esensor sorift hesensor sare
obscured

At speeds below approx. 25 km/h or
when there is sufficient stree tlighting:
R thep artial main-beam headlamps are
switched off automatically

To switch on/off: press the|button.
When th eautomatic interio rlighting control is
switched on ,the butto nisflushw itht he over-
head control panel. The interior lighting automatically switches on if
you:
R unlock th evehicle
R open adoor
R remove th ekeyfrom th eignition lock
The interior lighting is activated for ashort time
when th ekeyis remove dfromt heignition lock.
This delaye dswitch-off can be adjusted via the
multimedia system (see th eseparat eoperating

Bulbs, lamp sand plug connectors can
become ver yhot during use. When replacing a
bulb, you could burn yourself on these com-

Allow these component stocooldown before
replacing th ebulb.
Do no tuse ab ulb that has been dropped or if its
glass tub ehas been scratched.
The bulb may explod eif:

Only operate bulbs in enclosed lamp sdesigned
for that purpose .Onlyf it spar ebulbs of th esame
typ eand th especifie dvoltage.

your bare hands. If necessary, clean th eglass

Protect bulbs from moisture during operation.

The following conditions can affect your percep-
tio noft heperfume intensity:
R operatin gmode of th eautomatic climate con-
trol
R interior temperature
R tim eofy ear or day
R air humidity
R physiological condition of occupants, e.g .fati-
gue or hunger
The perfume atomiser can only be operated
when th eautomatic climate control is switched on and is only active when th
eglove compart-
men tisc losed.
The perfume atomiser is provided with apre-fil-
led vial. You can also choose fro mavariety of
filled perfume vials and an empt yvial which you
can fill yourself.
If you refill an empt yperfume vial, observe the
separate information sheet attache dtothevial.
! If you do not use genuine Mercedes-Benz
interior perfumes, observe th emanufactur-
ers' safet ynotices on th eperfume packaging.
Do not refill th epre-filled perfume vial when it is
empty. Dispose of th eused vial after use.
X To inser tthe perfum evial: open th eglove
compartmen t(Ypage 309).
X Slide th eperfume vial int othe holder as far as
it will go.
X To remove th eperfum evial: pull out the
perfume vial.
X To refill th eperfum evial: unscrew th elid of
th ee mpt yperfume vial to refill it yourself.
X Refill th evial with amaximum of 15 ml of the
desired liquid perfume.
X Screw th elid back on to th evial.
! Only refill th
evial when you are outside the
vehicle. Otherwise, liquid perfume could drip
int ot he interior and contaminat eit.
Always refill th eempt yrefillable vial with the
same perfume. Otherwise, you migh tnot ach-
ieve optimum result sfromt heperfume atom-

Problems with the perfume atomiser

perfumed although the
perfume atomiser has
been activated. The perfume vial has not been pushed into the holder as far as it will
go.
X Slide the perfume vial into the holder as far as it will go. The perfume vial is not filled sufficiently.
X Pre-filled vials: dispose of the empty vial.
X Use anew pre-filled vial.
X Refillable vials: refill the vial with amaximum of 15 ml of the same
perfume. The perfume atomiser is faulty.
X Have the perfume atomiser checked at aqualified specialist work-
shop. Ionisation
Ionisation is used to purify and freshen the air in the vehicle interior, which is conducive to a
pleasant climate.
The ionisation of the interior air is odourless and
cannot,d irectly, be perceived in the vehicle inte-
rior.
You can switch ionisation on or off using the
multimedia system (Y page 300).
Ionisation can only be operated when the auto-
matic climate control is switched on. The side air vent on the driver's side must be open. Auxiliary heating

DANGER
If the exhaust pipe is blocked or sufficient
ventilation is not possible, toxic exhaust
fumes can enter the vehicle, especially car-
bon monoxide. This is the case, e.g. in
enclosed spaces, or if the vehicle is stuck in
snow. There is arisk of fatal injuries.
You should switch off the auxiliary heating in
enclosed spaces which do not have an extrac- tion system, e.g. agarage. If the vehicle is
stuck in snow and you must leave the auxiliary
heating running, keep the exhaust pipe and the area around the vehicle clear of snow. To
guarantee asufficient supply of fresh air, open
aw indow on the side of the vehicle away from
the wind. G
WARNING
When the auxiliary heating is switched on,
parts of the vehicle can become very hot.
Flammable materials such as leaves, grass or twigs may ignite if they come into contact
with:
R hot parts of the exhaust system
R the exhaust gas itself
There is arisk of fire.
When the auxiliary heating is switched on,
make sure that:
R no flammable materials come into contact
with hot vehicle components
R the exhaust gas can escape from the
exhaust pipe unhindered
R the exhaust gas does not come into contact
with flammable materials.
The auxiliary heating is fitted under the front
wing on the right-han dside of the vehicle. The
emissions outlet is found behind the front wheel on the right-han dside of the vehicle. 138
