Panic alarm

Occupant safety
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Modifications to the restraint systems could
result in them not functioning properly any
more. The restraint systems could then no
longer protect vehicle occupants as they are
designed to do and could fail in the eventof
an accident or activate unexpectedly, for
example. There is an increased risk of injury.
Never modify parts of the restraint systems.
Do notattemptto modify the wiring as well as
electronic components or their software.
If it is necessary to modify an air bag system
to accommodate a person with disabilities,
contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz center.

In this section, you will learn the most
important facts about the restraint system
components of the vehicle.
The restraint system consists of:
RSeat belts
RChild restraint systems
RLATCH-type (ISOFIX) child seat securing
system
Additional protection is provided by:
RSRS (Supplemental Restraint System)
RAir bag system components with the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp
Although the systems are independent, their
protective functions work in conjunction with
each other. Not all air bags are always
deployed in an accident.

SRS (Supplemental Restraint System)
Introduction
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) with:
RTheSRS warning lamp
RAir bags
RAir bag control unit (with crash sensors)

for an air bag deactivation system is
installed on the front-passenger seat.
Ron vehicles with an air bag deactivation
system on the front-passenger seat, if the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator
lamp is not lit.
To make you aware of this danger, a
corresponding warning sticker has been
affixed to the side of the dashboard and on
both sides of the sun visor on the front-
passenger side.
Information about recommended child
restraint systems is available at any
authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.

Do not use a rearward-facing child restraint
systemonaseat that is protected by an air
bag installed in front of it.
LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child seat anchors
in the rear
GWARNING
LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child restraint systems
do not offer sufficient protective effect for
children whose weight is greater than 48 lbs
(22 kg) who are secured using the safety belt
integrated in the child restraint system. In the
event of an accident, a child might not be
restrained correctly. This poses an increased
risk of injury or even fatal injury.
If the child weighs more than 48 lbs (22 kg),
only use LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child restraint
systems with which the child is also secured
with the vehicle seat belt. Also secure the
child restraint system with the Top Tether
belt, if available.
When installing a child restraint system, be
sure to observe the manufacturer's
installation instructions and the instructions
for correct use of the child restraint system.
!When installing the LATCH-type (ISOFIX)
child restraint system, make sure that the
seat belt for the center seat does not get
trapped. Otherwise, the seat belt could be
damaged.
XInstall the LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child
restraint system. Comply with the child
restrain system manufacturer's
instructions when installing the LATCH-
type (ISOFIX) child restraint system.
LATCH-type (ISOFIX) is a standardized
securing system for specially designed child
restraint systems on the rear seats. Securing

ringsfor two LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child
restraint systems are installed on the left and
right of the rear seats.
Non-LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child seats may
also be used and can be installed using the
vehicle's seat beltsystem. Install the child
seat according to the manufacturer's
instructions.
Top Tether
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Always engage the rearseat backrests in an
upright position before installing the Top
Tether belt. Push and pull the rear seat
backrests to check whether they are engaged
correctly. If the seat backrest is not locked
properly, the seat backrest could fold. The
child seat would no longer be supported
properly or positioned to provide its intended
benefit.That could cause serious or even fatal
injuries.
Example: Top Tether belt with one belt strap
Top Tether provides an additional connection
between the LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child
restraint system secured with ISOFIX and the
rear seat. This helps reduce the risk of injury
even further. If the child restraint system is
installed with Top Tether, this should always
be used.
The Top Tether anchorage points are installed
in the rear compartment behind the outer
head restraints on the parcel shelf.
There is also another Top Tether anchorage
point behind the central rear seat.
