THERMOTRONIC automatic climate con-
trol
X Activate or deactivate the synchronisation
function using Audio 20 or COMAND Online
(see the separate operating instructions).
The synchronisation function is deactivated: R if the settings for the front-passenger side
are changed
R if the settings for the rear compartment are
changed Demisting the windscreen
General notes You can use this function to defrost the wind-
screen or to demist the inside of the wind-
screen and the front side windows.
Switch off the windscreen demisting function as soon as the windscreen is clear again.
Switching the "Windscreen demisting"
function on or off X
Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock (Y page 187).
X To switch on: press the¬rocker
switch on the front control unit up or down.
The indicator lamp above the ¬rocker
switch lights up. The current climate con-
trol settings are deactivated.
The climate control system switches to the
following functions:
R high airflow
R high temperature
R air distribution to the windscreen and
front side windows
R air-recirculation mode off
i If necessary, the "Cooling with air dehu-
midification" function is activated. In this
case, the indicator lamp above the
¿ rocker switch remains switched off. X
To switch off: press the¬rocker
switch up or down.
The indicator lamp above the ¬rocker
switch goes out. The previous settings are
reactivated. Air-recirculation mode
remains deactivated.
or X Press the upper or lower section of the
à rocker switch. Demisting the windows
Windows misted up on the inside X
Activate the "Cooling with air dehumidifi-
cation" function with the ¿rocker
switch.
or
X Activate the cooling with air dehumidifica-
tion function via Audio 20 or COMAND
Online (see the separate operating instruc-
tions).
For THERMOTRONIC automatic climate
control with auxiliary heating, the "Cooling
with air dehumidification" function can only be activated using Audio 20 or COMAND
Online.
X Switch on automatic mode using the Ã
rocker switch.
X If the windows continue to mist up, activate
the windscreen demisting function using
the ¬ rocker switch.
i You should only select this setting until
the windscreen is clear again.
Windows misted up on the outside X
Activate the windscreen wipers.
X Switch on automatic mode using the Ã
rocker switch.
i If you clean the windows regularly, they
do not mist up so quickly. 168

Rear window heating
General notes The rear window heating has a high current
draw. You should therefore switch it off as
soon as the window is clear. It otherwise
switches off automatically after several
minutes.
If the battery voltage is too low, the rear win-
dow heating may switch off.
Switching the sound on/off X
Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock (Y page 187).
X Press the ¤rocker switch up or down.
The indicator lamp above the ¤rocker

Problems with the rear window heating
Problem
Possible causes/consequences and

ing has switched off
prematurely or cannot
be activated. The battery has not been sufficiently charged.
X Switch off any consumers that are not required, e.g. reading
lamps, interior lighting or the seat heating.
When the battery is sufficiently charged, the rear window heat- ing can be activated again. Switching air-recirculation mode
on/off
General notes You can also temporarily deactivate the flow
of fresh air manually if unpleasant odours are
entering the vehicle from outside. The air
already inside the vehicle will then be recir-
culated.
If you activate air-recirculation mode, the win-
dows can mist up more quickly, in particular
at low temperatures. Only use air-recircula-
tion mode briefly to prevent the windows
misting up.
Activating/deactivating X
Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock (Y page 187).
X To activate: press thegrocker switch
up or down.
The indicator lamp above the grocker
switch lights up.
Air-recirculation mode is activated automati-
cally: R at high outside temperatures
R at high levels of pollution (THERMOTRONIC
automatic climate control only)
R in a tunnel (vehicles with a navigation sys-
tem only)
The indicator lamp above the grocker
switch is not lit when automatic air-recircula- tion mode is activated. Outside air is added
after approximately 30 minutes. X
To deactivate: press thegrocker
switch up or down.
The indicator lamp above the grocker
switch goes out.
Air-recirculation mode is deactivated auto-
matically:
R after approximately five minutes at outside
temperatures below approximately 5 †
R after approximately five minutes if "Cooling
with air dehumidification" is deactivated
R after approximately 30 minutes at outside
temperatures above approximately 5 † if
the "Cooling with air dehumidification"
function is activated Convenience opening or closing using
the air-recirculation button G
WARNING
When the convenience closing feature is oper- ating, parts of the body could become trapped
in the closing area of the side window and the
sliding sunroof. There is a risk of injury.
Observe the complete closing procedure
when the convenience closing feature is oper-
ating. When closing make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area. G
WARNING
During convenience opening parts of the body could be drawn in or become trapped
between the side window and window frame.

When opening, make sure that nobody is
touching the side window. If someone
becomes trapped, immediately press
the W switch in the door to stop the move-
ment of the side windows. To continue closing
the side window, pull on the Wswitch.
X Convenience closing feature (vehicles
with a panorama sliding sunroof): press
and hold the grocker switch up or
down until the side windows and the pan-
orama sliding sunroof start to close auto-
matically.
The indicator lamp above the grocker
switch lights up. Air-recirculation mode is
activated.
X Convenience closing feature (vehicles
without a sliding sunroof/panorama
sliding sunroof): press and hold the g
rocker switch up or down until the side win- dows start to close automatically.
The indicator lamp above the grocker
switch lights up. Air-recirculation mode is
activated.
If you open the side windows or the pano-
rama sliding sunroof manually after closing
with the convenience closing feature, they
will remain in this position when opened
using the convenience opening feature.
If parts of the body are in the closing area
during convenience closing, proceed as fol-
lows:
X Press the Wbutton to stop the side win-
dows.
The side windows stop.
X To then open the side windows, press the
W button again.
X Only vehicles with panorama sliding
sunroof: press the 3button to stop the
panorama sliding sunroof.
The panorama sliding sunroof stops.
X To then open the panorama sliding sunroof,
pull back on the 3button. Notes on the automatic reversing feature for:
R the side windows (Y page 110)
R the panorama sliding sunroof
(Y page 114)
X Convenience opening feature (vehicles
with a panorama sliding sunroof): press
and hold the grocker switch up or
down until the side windows and the pan-
orama sliding sunroof start to open auto-
matically.
The indicator lamp above the grocker
switch goes out. Air-recirculation mode is
deactivated.
X Convenience opening feature (vehicles
without a panorama sliding sunroof):
press and hold the grocker switch up
or down until the side windows start to
open automatically.
The indicator lamp above the grocker
switch goes out. Air-recirculation mode is
deactivated. Switching the residual heat on/off
General notes The residual heat function is only available
with THERMOTRONIC automatic climate con- trol and THERMATIC automatic climate con-
trol with auxiliary heating.
When the engine is switched off, it is possible
to make use of the residual heat of the engine to continue heating or ventilating the front
compartment of the vehicle for approximately
30 minutes. The heating or ventilation time
depends on the set interior temperature.
Switching on/off X
Turn the key to position 0in the ignition
lock or remove it (Y page 187).
X To switch on: press the!rocker
switch up or down.
The indicator lamp above the !rocker

The blower will run at a low speed regardless
of the airflow setting.
If you activate the residual heat function at
high temperatures, only the ventilation will be
activated. The blower runs at medium speed.
X To switch off: press the!rocker
switch up or down.
The indicator lamp above the !rocker
switch goes out.
Residual heat is deactivated automatically:
R after approximately 30 minutes
R when the ignition is switched on
R if the battery voltage drops
R when the auxiliary heating is switched on Perfume atomiser
Operating the perfume atomiser G
WARNING
If children open the perfume vial, they could
drink the perfume or it could come into con-
tact with their eyes. There is a risk of injury. Do not leave children unsupervised in the vehicle.
If the perfume liquid has been drunk, consult
a doctor. If perfume comes into contact with
your eyes or skin, rinse the eyes with clean
water. If you continue to experience difficul-
ties, consult a doctor. H
Environmental note Full perfume vials must not
be disposed of with house-
hold rubbish. They must be
collected separately and dis-
posed of in an environmen-
tally responsible recycling
system. Dispose of full perfume vials
in an environmentally
responsible manner and
take them to a special waste
collection point. :
Perfume lid
; Perfume vial
The perfume atomiser helps to improve driv-
ing comfort.
Using Audio 20 or COMAND Online, you can:
R switch the perfume atomiser on or off (see
the separate operating instructions)
R regulate the perfume intensity (see the sep-
arate operating instructions)
The following conditions can affect your per-
ception of the perfume intensity:
R operating mode of the automatic climate
control
R interior temperature
R time of year or day
R air humidity
R physiological condition of occupants, e.g.
fatigue or hunger
The perfume atomiser can only be operated
when the automatic climate control is
switched on and is only active when the glove compartment is closed.
The perfume atomiser is provided with a pre-
filled perfume vial. You can also choose from
a variety of filled perfume vials and an empty
vial which you can fill yourself.
If you refill an empty perfume vial, observe the separate information sheet attached to the
vial.
! If you do not use genuine Mercedes-Benz
interior perfumes, observe the manufactur-
ers' safety notices on the perfume packag- ing. 172

Do not refill the pre-filled perfume vial when it
is empty. Dispose of the used vial after use.
X To insert the perfume vial: open the glove
compartment (Y page 391).
X Slide the perfume vial into the holder as far
as it will go.
X To remove the perfume vial: pull out the
perfume vial.
X To refill the perfume vial: unscrew the lid
of the empty perfume vial to refill it your-
self.
X Refill the vial with a maximum of 15 ml of
the desired liquid perfume.
X Screw the lid back on to the vial.
! Only refill the vial when you are outside
the vehicle. Otherwise, liquid perfume
could drip into the interior and contaminate it.
Always refill the empty refillable vial with the
same perfume. Otherwise, you might not ach-
ieve optimum results from the perfume atom-

Problems with the perfume atomiser

has been activated. The perfume vial has not been pushed into the holder as far as it
will go.
X Slide the perfume vial into the holder as far as it will go. The perfume vial is not filled sufficiently.
X Pre-filled vials: dispose of the empty vial.
X Use a new pre-filled vial.
X Refillable vials: refill the vial with a maximum of 15 ml of the
same perfume. The perfume atomiser is faulty.
X Have the perfume atomiser checked at a qualified specialist
workshop. Ionisation
Ionisation is used to purify and freshen the air
in the vehicle interior, which is conducive to a
pleasant climate.
The ionisation of the interior air is odourless
and cannot, directly, be perceived in the vehi- cle interior.
You can switch ionisation on or off using
Audio 20 or COMAND Online (see the sepa-
rate operating instructions).
Ionisation can only be operated when the
automatic climate control is switched on. The
side air vent on the driver's side must be
open. Pre-entry climate control via key
General notes The "Pre-entry climate control via key" func-
tion is only available in PLUG-IN HYBRID vehi-
cles.
Before getting in, the driver's seat area or the
whole interior can be briefly warmed or ven-
tilated in advance with the air from the air
vents being pre-cooled. The high-voltage battery must be sufficiently
charged before "Pre-entry climate control via
key" can be activated.
When the vehicle is pre-cooled, the following
functions are activated as needed:
R Automatic climate control
R Blower
R Seat ventilation
When the vehicle is pre-heated, the following functions are activated as needed:
R Automatic climate control
R Blower
R Seat heating
R Steering wheel heating
R Exterior mirror heating
R Rear window heating
If you have switched on the perfume atomiser or ionisation using Audio 20 or COMAND
Online, these will be activated together with
pre-entry climate control.

Activating/deactivating "Pre-entry cli-
mate control via key" Before "Pre-entry climate control via key" can
be activated, you must activate the function
via Audio 20 or COMAND Online (see sepa-
rate operating instructions).
X To activate "Pre-entry climate control
via key": unlock the vehicle with the key or
KEYLESS-GO.
To deactivate "Pre-entry climate control
via key": "Pre-entry climate control via key"
deactivates automatically when the engine is
started.
The following functions remain active after
the engine is started:
R Seat heating (heating)
R Seat ventilation (ventilation)
R Perfume atomiser
R Ionisation
An activated "Pre-entry climate control via
key" function can be deactivated using the
rocker switch (Y page 177). Operating the climate control system

Problems with "Pre-entry climate control via key"

deactivated. The charge status of the high-voltage battery is under the specified
minimum charge status.
X Start the engine when the vehicle is at a standstill.
The internal combustion engine drives the electric motor. The
electric motor is operating as an alternator. The high-voltage
battery is charging.
Further information on charging the high-voltage battery via: R a mains socket (Y page 213)
R a charging station (Y page 217)
R a wallbox (Y page 216) "Pre-entry climate control via key" has been started more than
twice with the engine switched off.
X Switch on the engine and let it run for more than ten seconds.
X Try again to activate "Pre-entry climate control via key". Pre-entry climate control at time of
departure
Important safety notes G
WARNING
If persons (particularly children) are exposed
to heat or cold for a prolonged period, there is a risk of serious or even fatal injuries. Never
leave persons (particularly children) unatten-
ded in the vehicle.
General notes The "Pre-entry climate control at departure
time" function is only available in PLUG-IN
HYBRID vehicles.
You can use the "Pre-entry climate control at
departure time" function to cool or heat the
vehicle interior if the engine is not running.
The "Pre-entry climate control at departure
time" function can be activated regardless of
whether or not the vehicle is connected to an electric power supply. However, the charge
status of the high-voltage battery must be higher than the specified minimum charge
status.
When the vehicle is connected to an electric
power supply, priority is given to charging the
high-voltage battery to the specified mini-
mum charge. "Pre-entry climate control at
departure time" is only activated subse-
quently.
The running time of the "Pre-entry climate
control at departure time" function may be
reduced if:
R the vehicle is not connected to an electric
power supply and
R the high-voltage battery is not fully charged
With active "Pre-entry climate control at
departure time" the charge status of the high- voltage battery can be reduced, even if the
charge cable connector is connected.
When the vehicle is cooled, the following
functions are activated as needed:
R Automatic climate control
R Blower
R Seat ventilation 176

When the vehicle is heated, the following
functions are activated as needed:
R Automatic climate control
R Blower
R Seat heating
R Steering wheel heating
R Exterior mirror heating
R Rear window heating
If you have switched on the perfume atomiser or ionisation using Audio 20 or COMAND
Online, these will be activated together with
"Pre-entry climate control at departure time".
Activating the perfume atomiser or ionisation (see separate operating instructions).
Setting the departure time You can set the departure time using the on-
board computer or via the Mercedes connect
me web App. The activation of the "Pre-entry climate control at departure time" function
can be linked to this departure time. Your
vehicle will then be cooled or heated until the desired temperature is reached in time for the
set departure time. "Pre-entry climate control at departure time" will be activated a maxi-
mum of 55 minutes before departure. If the
departure is delayed, the vehicle will be
heated or cooled for a further five minutes.
X To set the departure time: set the depar-
ture time using the on-board computer
(Y page 330). Set the departure time using
the Mercedes connect me web App:

X To activate or deactivate "Pre-entry cli-
mate control at departure time": acti-
vate and deactivate "Pre-entry climate con- trol at departure time" using Audio 20 or
COMAND Online (see separate operating
instructions). Activate or deactivate "Pre-
entry climate control at departure time"
using the Mercedes connect me web App:
http://www.mercedes.me.
When activating the "Pre-entry climate con-
trol at departure time" function: you can
select whether only the driver's area or also the front-passenger area should be heated or
cooled.
The "Pre-entry climate control at departure
time" function is automatically deactivated
when the vehicle is started. The following
functions remain active:
R Seat heating
R Seat ventilation
R Steering wheel heating
R Perfume atomiser
R Ionisation
To deactivate "Pre-entry climate control
at departure time": the activated "Pre-entry
climate control at departure time" can be
deactivated using the rocker switch
(Y page 177).
Activating/deactivating "Immediate
pre-entry climate control" using the
rocker switch You can activate "Immediate pre-entry cli-
mate control" even if the vehicle interior is
already at the desired temperature. This
means, for example, that the vehicle interior
continues to be cooled or heated if the jour-
ney is interrupted for up to 50 minutes and
the interior temperature is kept constant. Operating the climate control system
