THERMATIC automatic climate control The following contains notes and recommen-
dations on optimum use of THERMATIC auto-
matic climate control.
R Activate climate control using the Ã
rocker switch. The indicator lamp above
the à rocker switch lights up. The "Cool-
ing with air dehumidification" function is
not activated automatically in automatic mode. If necessary, activate this function
(Y page 162).
R Set the temperature to 22 †.
R Only use the windscreen demisting func-
tion briefly until the windscreen is clear
again.
R Only use air-recirculation mode briefly, e.g.
if there are unpleasant outside odours or
when in a tunnel. The windows could oth-
erwise mist up as no fresh air is drawn into
the vehicle in air-recirculation mode. 158

R Set the temperature to 22 †.
R Only use the "Windscreen demisting" func-
tion briefly until the windscreen is clear
again.
R Only use air-recirculation mode briefly, e.g.
if there are unpleasant outside odours or
when in a tunnel. The windows could oth-
erwise mist up as no fresh air is drawn into the vehicle in air-recirculation mode.
R Use the residual heat function if you want to
heat or ventilate the vehicle interior when
the ignition is switched off. The residual
heat function can only be activated or deac-
tivated with the ignition switched off. The
residual heat function is deactivated when
the ignition is switched on.
DYNAMIC SELECT switch You can choose between various drive pro-
grams with the DYNAMIC SELECT switch
(Y

city. If you require the full climate control out-
put, you can switch off the ECO start/stop
function by pressing the ECO button

Switching the climate control on/off
General notes When the climate control is switched off, the
air supply and air circulation are also
switched off. The windows could mist up.
Therefore, only switch off climate control
briefly.
Switch on climate control primarily using the à rocker switch (Y page 164).
Activating/deactivating X
Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock (Y page 187).
X To switch on: press thetor!
rocker switch up or down.

control menu opens.
X Switch on climate control via the air-condi-
tioning function bar; see the separate oper- ating instructions.
or
X Set the airflow to level 1 or higher using the

X Set the airflow to level 0 using the H
rocker switch. Activating/deactivating cooling with
air dehumidification
General notes If you deactivate the "Cooling with air dehu-
midification" function, the air inside the vehi- cle will not be cooled. The air inside the vehi- 162

cle will also not be dehumidified. The win-
dows can mist up more quickly. Therefore,
deactivate the "Cooling with air dehumidifi-
cation" function only briefly.
The "Cooling with air dehumidification" func-
tion is only available when the engine is run-
ning. The air inside the vehicle is cooled and
dehumidified according to the temperature
selected.
Condensation may drip from the underside of the vehicle when cooling mode is active. This
is normal and not a sign that there is a mal-
function.
Activating/deactivating THERMATIC automatic climate control or
THERMOTRONIC automatic climate con-
trol without auxiliary heating
X To activate: press the¿rocker switch
up or down.
The indicator lamp above the rocker switch
lights up.
or X Activate the cooling with air dehumidifica-
tion function via Audio 20 or COMAND
Online (see the separate operating instruc-
tions).
X To deactivate: press the¿rocker
switch up or down.
The indicator lamp above the rocker switch
goes out.
or X Deactivate the cooling with air dehumidifi-
cation function via Audio 20 or COMAND
Online (see the separate operating instruc-
tions).
THERMOTRONIC automatic climate con-
trol with auxiliary heating

X Consult a qualified specialist workshop. Setting climate control to automatic
mode
General notes In automatic mode, the set temperature is
maintained automatically at a constant level.
The system automatically regulates the tem-
perature of the dispensed air, the airflow and
the air distribution.
The automatic mode functions optimally
when the "Cooling with air dehumidification"
function is activated. The "Cooling with air
dehumidification" function must be activated
manually in automatic mode. If necessary,
"Cooling with air dehumidification" can also
be deactivated. If you deactivate the "Cooling with air-dehu-
midification" function, the air inside the vehi- cle will not be cooled. The air inside the vehi-
cle will also not be dehumidified. The win-
dows can mist up more quickly. Therefore,
deactivate the "Cooling with air-dehumidifi-
cation" function only briefly. 164
