Checkingthe engine oil level usingthe oildipstick

#Letthe engine cool down and onlytouchthe component parts describedasfollows.
Plug-inhybrid:observethe notes inthe Supple‐ment. Otherwise,you mayfailtorecognize dan‐gers.
Requirements:RThe engine must havean oil dipstick.If not,the engine oil level can bechecked only withthe on-board computer (→page 399).
Depending onthe engine,the oil dipstick may beinstalled inthe engine compartment in differentlocations.
Thewaiting time beforecheckingthe oil levelwhenthe engine is at normal operatingtempera‐ture isfiveminutes.
#Parkthevehicle on a level surface.
#Pull oil dipstick1out and wipe off.
#Slowly slide oil dipstick1intothe guidetubetothestop, and pull it out again afterapproximatelythree seconds.ROil level is correct: oil level is between2and3.
ROil leveltoo low: oil level is at3orbelow.
ROil leveltoo high: oil level is above2.
#Ifthe oil level istoo low,add1.1 US qt(1 liter) of engine oil.
#Ifthe oil level istoo high, havetheexcessengine oilremoved as soon as possible at aqualified specialistworkshop.
Checkingthe engine oil level with an on-board computer
Requirements:The engine oil level is determined during driving.Determiningthe engine oil level cantakeupto30 minutes with a normal drivingstyle andevenlonger with an active drivingstyle.

#Engine Oil Level OKandthe bar displayforindicatingthe oil level inthe multifunctiondisplay is green and is between "min" and"max":the oil level is correct.
#Engine Oil Level Add 1.0 landthe bar displayfor indicatingthe oil level inthe multifunctiondisplay is orange and is below "min": add1.1 US qt (1 liter) of engine oil.
#Reduce Engine Oil Levelandthe bar displayfor indicatingthe oil level inthe multifunctiondisplay is orange and is above"max": drain
offtheexcess engine oil. Consult aqualifiedspecialistworkshop.
#For Engine Oil Level Switch Ignition On:switch onthe ignitiontocheckthe engine oillevel.

#Allowthe enginetocool off andthor‐oughly cleanthe engine oil from compo‐nent parts beforestartingthevehicle.
*NOTEEngine damagecausedbyanincorrect oilfilter, incorrect oil or addi‐tives
#Do not use engine oils or oilfilterswhich do not correspondtothe specifi‐cationsexplicitly prescribedfortheservice intervals.

The engine cooling system is pressurized,particularly whenthe engine iswarm. Ifyouopenthe cap,you could be scaldedbyhotcoolant spraying out.
#Letthe engine cool down before open‐ingthe cap.
#When openingthe cap,wear protectivegloves and safetyglasses.
#Openthe cap slowlytorelease pres‐sure.

#If necessary,removethe cover.

#Intheevent of afireinthe engine com‐partment,keepthe hood closed andcallthefireservice.
&WARNING‑ Risk offireand injury fromwindshieldwasher concentrate
Windshieldwasher concentrate is highlyflammable. It could ignite if it comes intocontact withhot engine component parts ortheexhaust system.
#Make surethat no windshieldwasherconcentrate spills out nexttothefilleropening.

#Before driving into a carwash makesurethatthe carwash is suitableforthevehicle dimensions.
#Ensurethere is sufficient ground clear‐ance betweenthe underbody andtheguiderails ofthe carwash.
#Ensurethatthe clearance width ofthecarwash, in particularthe width oftheguiderails, is sufficient.
Toavoid damageto yourvehicle when using acarwash, ensurethefollowing beforehand:
RActive Distance AssistDISTRONIC andtheHOLD function are deactivated.
Rthe 360° Camera ortherear view camera isswitched off.
Rthe side windowsand sliding sunroof arecompletelyclosed.
Rthe blowerfortheventilation/heating isswitched off.
Rthe windshield wiper switch is in positionZ.
Rin carwashes with a conveyor system: neu‐tral\\is engaged.

Information on using a powerwasher
&WARNINGRisk of accident when usinghigh-pressure cleaning equipment withround-spraynozzles
Thewater jet from around-spraynozzle (dirtgrinder) may cause damagetotires and sus‐pension componentsthat is not visible.
Components damaged inthisway mayfailunexpectedly.
#Do not use high-pressure cleaningequipment withround-spraynozzlestocleanyourvehicle.
#Damaged tires or suspension compo‐nents must bereplaced immediately.
Toavoid damageto yourvehicle, observethefol‐lowing when using a powerwasher:
Rkeepthe SmartKeyat least10ft(3 m)awayfromthevehicle. Otherwisethe trunk lidcould open unintentionally.
Rmaintain a distance of at least11.8 in(30 cm)tothevehicle.
Rvehicles with decorativefoil:parts ofyourvehicle are covered with a decorativefoil.Maintain a distance of at least27.6 in(70 cm) betweenthefoil-covered parts ofthevehicle andthe nozzle ofthe powerwasher.Movethe powerwasher nozzle around whilstcleaning. Thewatertemperature ofthepowerwasher must notexceed140 °F(60 °C).
Robservethe information onthe correct dis‐tance inthe equipment manufacturer's oper‐ating instructions.
Rdo not pointthe nozzle ofthe powerwasherdirectly at sensitive parts such as tires, slits,electrical components, batteries, light bulbsandventilation slots.
Washingthevehiclebyhand
Observethe legalrequirements, e.g. in a numberof countries,washingbyhand is only permittedin specially designatedwash bays.
#Use a mild cleaning agent, e.g. car shampoo.
#Washthevehicle with lukewarmwater usinga soft car sponge. When doing so, do notexposethevehicletodirect sunlight.
#Carefully hosethevehicle off withwater anddry using achamois.Takecare nottopointthewater jet directlytowardsthe air inletgrille.

Ifthe windshield wipers are set in motionwhileyou are cleaningthe windshield orwiper blades,you can be trappedbythewiper arm.

Thetailpipe andtailpipe trim can becomeveryhot. Ifyou come into contact withthesecar parts,you could burnyourself.

Notes on MOExtended tires (run-flat tire)
&WARNINGRisk of accident when drivingin emergency mode
When driving in emergency mode,the han‐dlingcharacteristics are impaired. e.g. whencornering, when acceleratingstronglyandwhen braking.
#Do notexceedthe permissible maxi‐mum speedfor MOExtended tires.
#Avoid any abruptsteering and drivingmaneuvers aswell as drivingoverobstacles (curbs, pot holes, off-road).This applies, in particular,toa loadedvehicle.
#Stop driving inthe emergency mode ifyou notice:

WithMOExtended tires (run-flat tire),you cancontinuetodriveyourvehicleeven ifthere is atotal loss of pressure in one or more tires. How‐ever,the tire affected must not show any clearlyvisible damage.
You canrecognize MOExtended tiresbytheMOExtended marking which appearsonthe sidewall ofthe tire.
Vehicles with tire pressure monitoring sys‐tem:MOExtended tires may only be used in con‐junction withan activated tire pressure monitor‐ing system.
If a pressure losswarning message appears inthe multifunction display,proceed asfollows:
