Before closing the liftga
te, make sure there is
no foreign object around the striker (A).If a foreign object matter gets into the striker,it could prevent the power
liftgate from clos-

hands near the arm
(B) and gas struts (C).To prevent damage to the gas struts:• Do not push or pull on the gas struts.• Do not wrap, attach or hang anything on thegas struts.

CAUTIONDo not apply excessive force to the powerliftgate when opening or closing it. Doing socould damage to th

NOTE
Do not start the engine while the power lift-gate is operating. The sudden operation pre-vention mechanism c
ould operate, making
the power liftgate stop intermittently while itmoves.The power liftgate cannot be opened whenthe battery is discha
rged or disconnected.
The liftgate must be then opened using theinside liftgate release.Refer to “Inside lift
gate release” on page
5-46.If the keyless entry system or close switch isoperated when the pow
er liftgate main
switch is off, the warning buzzer sounds 4times to notify the driver that the power lift-gate cannot
be operated.
The power liftgate does not operate normallyunder the following conditions:• When parked on an incline• In strong winds• When the power liftga
te is covered with
snow
Repeated continuous
opening and closing
operation of the power lif
tgate will activate a
built-in protection ci
rcuit and switch the
power liftgate to
manual operation.
If one of the power lift
gate switches is oper-
ated while the power lift
gate is operating, the
power liftgate will reve
rse and return to the
full open or close position.If the selector lever is moved from “P”the power liftgate is operating or completelyopen, a warning buzzer will sound forapproximately 10 sec
onds to notify the
driver that the power liftgate is open.If the battery or fuse is replaced while thepower liftgate is open,
it cannot be closed
automatically.In this case close the power liftgate manu-ally.

The operation mode is in ON with theselector lever in the “P” (PARK) position,or the operation mode is in ACC or OFF.The power liftgate is completely open.Nothing is touching the auto reverse sen-sors on the power liftgate.
After unlocking the doors and the power lift-gate, the power liftgate can be operated bypressing the switch (A) of the F.A.S.T.-key orthe driver’s side power liftgate switch (B).
If the power liftgate switch is pressed twice ina row, the power liftgate operates after thewarning buzzer sounds and the hazard warn-ing flasher blinks.The power liftgate operates as follows:
If the power liftgate switch is pressed oncewhile the power liftgate is operating, thewarning buzzer sounds an
d the liftgate will
reverse and return to
the full open or closed
position.If the driver’s side power liftgate switch ispressed for more than 1 second, the powerliftgate will operate
after the buzzer sounds
and the hazard warning flasher blinks.The power liftgate operates as follows.

•While closed: The

and the power liftgate com-pletely opens.
•While open: The warning buzzer sounds

NOTE
If the power liftgate sw
itch is pressed 3 or
more times in a row, the power liftgate maynot operate normally.If this occurs, wait a short time before againpressing the power lift
gate switch twice.
•While closed: The warning buzzer sounds
and the power liftgate com-pletely opens.
•While open: The warning buzzer sounds
and the power liftgate com-pletely closes.

pressed once while the
power liftgate is oper-
ating, the warning buz
zer will sound and the
power liftgate will move in the directionopposite to the one in which it was operating.The power liftgate can
be opened by pressing
the open switch (C).If the open switch is pressed while the powerliftgate and all doors are unlocked, the power
liftgate will open after the warning buzzersounds and the hazard wa
rning flasher blinks.
The power liftgate can
be closed by pressing
the close switch (D) on the power liftgate.
If the close switch on the power liftgate ispressed, the power liftgate will close after thewarning buzzer sounds 3 times and the hazardwarning flasher
blinks 2 times.
If the close switch is pressed once while thepower liftgate is clos
ing, the warning buzzer
sounds once and the power liftgate opens.

If the auto reverse sensors (A) on either sideof the power liftgate de
tect that something is
being trapped by the cl
osing power liftgate,
the warning buzzer will sound once and theliftgate will automatically reverse directionand return to the full open position.
WA R N I N GWhen operating the
power liftgate, make
sure that there are no people near thepower liftgate and that there is sufficientspace behind and ab
ove the vehicle.
Opening the power liftgate using the open switch

NOTE
When you are carrying the F.A.S.T.-key withthe power liftgate is locked, the power lift-gate can be opened by pressing the openswitch even if the power liftgate is locked.For vehicles equipped w
ith the mirror retrac-
tor switch, the outside rearview mirrors auto-matically extend when the power liftgate andall doors are unlocked using the liftgate openswitch (C).
Closing the power liftgate using the close switch

NOTE
If the close switch is again pressed oncewhile the power liftgate is operating in theopening direction, th

After the power liftgate has opened automati-cally, if it is detected that the power liftgate isdropping due to factors such as accumulatedsnow, the power liftgate will close automati-cally.A warning buzzer w
ill sound continuously
while the drop prevention mechanism is oper-ating.
If the engine is starte
d while the power lift-
gate is operating, the power liftgate mayintermittently move or stop moving to pre-vent the power liftgate
from moving abruptly.
Approximately 10 seconds after the powerliftgate has fully closed
or opened, power lift-
gate operation will again resume.

WA R N I N GThe auto reverse mech
anism will not oper-
ate just before the power liftgate becomesfully closed. Therefore, be careful not totrap a hand, part of your body or anobject at this time.When the power liftgate is closed manu-ally, the auto reverse mechanism will notoperate. If the auto reverse mechanism has beenrepeatedly activated
, the power liftgate
may stop and then, de
pending on its posi-
tion, may abruptly open
or close. Once the
power liftgate is completely closed oropen, automatic operation will beresumed.
CAUTIONDo not damage the auto reverse sensor, whenloading or unloading luggage. If the sensor isdamaged, the power lift
gate will not close
automatically.
Drop prevention mechanism

If snow has accumula
ted on the power lift-
gate, remove it befo
re operating the power
liftgate.Do not install any accessory other than Mit-subishi Motors Genui

liftgate. The drop prevention mechanismmay be activated due to
the weight of the
accessory.The drop prevention mechanism could beactivated if you attempt to close the liftgatemanually immediately af

Sudden operation prevention mechanism

To close the power liftgate, pull the powerliftgate grip (B) dow

before the power liftgate is completelyclosed, and then gently close the power lift-gate from the outside.

The power liftgate easy closer is designed tohelp the power liftgate close securely.If the power liftgate is closed to a positionwhere it is detected as being ajar, it closesautomatically.

under the liftgate.CAUTIONMake sure there is no one around the powerliftgate when opening it.NOTE
The liftgate cannot be opened if it is notraised immediately after pressing the powerliftgate open switch.If this happens, raise the liftgate again afterpressing the liftgate open switch.
When the battery is discharged or discon-nected, the power liftgate cannot be openedeven manually. At that time, the liftgate canbe opened only by using the inside liftgaterelease. Refer to “Inside liftgate release” onpage 5-46.CAUTIONThe auto reverse mechanism will not operatewhen the power liftgate
is closed manually.
Therefore be especially careful not to trap ahand or finger.NOTE
Do not fully close the power liftgate withyour hand still on the power liftgate grip.Doing so could trap and injure your hand orarm.

You and your family should familiarize your-selves with the location and operation of theliftgate release lever.1. Open the lid (A) inside of the liftgate.2. Move the lever (B) to open the liftgate.

The theft-alarm system is designed to provideprotection from unauthorized entry into thevehicle. This system
is operated in three
stages: the first is the “armed” stage, the sec-ond is the “alarm” stage, and third is the “dis-armed” stage. If triggered, the systemprovides both audible and visual alarm sig-nals.

Make sure that the engine hood is closed.3. Lock all doors and the liftgate by usingthe keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation.
At this time, the theft-alarm indicator (A)mation.4. The system has entered the armed stageafter about 20 seconds, when the theft-alarm indicator (A) flashing becomesslower.The theft-alarm indicator (A) continues toflash while the system is in the armedstage.

The system will be disarmed if, while thetheft-alarm indicator (A) is illuminated, alldoors and the liftgate are unlocked by usingthe keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-keyoperation.
The system will be disarmed if, while thetheft-alarm indicator is illuminated, the fol-lowing operation is performed.• Except for vehicles equipped with theF.A.S.T.-key, if the ignition switch is turnedto the “ON” position.• For vehicles equippe
d with the F.A.S.T.-
key, if the operation mode is put in ON.
The system will not be armed if a door, theliftgate or the engine
hood is not completely
closed. If this happens, rearm the system asdescribed above.The theft-alarm system can be activatedwhen people are riding inside the vehicle orwhen the windows are open. To prevent acci-dental activati
on of the alarm, do not set the
system to the system armed mode while peo-ple are riding in the vehicle.
