24. Remove cylinder headbolts.

• Bolts should beloosened intwo orthree steps.

manifolds.
26. Remove oilpans.
Refer to"Removal" in"OIL PAN" (EM-63).
27. Remove oilstrainer.
28. Remove crankshaft pulley.
29. Set asuitable transmission jackunder mainbearing.

30. Remove frontengine mounting.
31. Remove frontcover andoilpump drivespacer.
• Inspect foroilleakage atfront oilseal. Replace sealifoil
leak ispresent.
32. Remove timingchainguides andtiming chain.

Inspection
Check forcracks andexcessive wearatroller links.Replace
chain ifnecessary.
Installation
1. Install crankshaft sprocketoncrankshaft.

• Make surethatmating marksoncrankshaft sprocketface
front ofengine.

2. Position crankshaft sothat No.1 piston isset atTOG andkey
way isat 12 o'clock. Fittiming chainoncrankshaft sprocket,
aligning themating marks.
• Mating markcolorontiming chain.

3. Install timing chainandtiming chainguides.
4. Before installing frontcover, remove alltraces ofliquid
gasket frommating surface usingascraper.
• Also remove tracesofliquid gasket frommating surface of
cylinder block.
5. Apply acontinuous beadofliquid gasket tomating surface
of front cover.

• Use Genuine LiquidGasket orequivalent.
• Besure toinstall newfront oilseal inthe right direction.
Refer toEM-82.

12. Before installing cylinderheadgasket, applyacontinuous
bead ofliquid gasket tomating surface ofcylinder block.
13. Install cylinder headcompletely withintake andexhaust
manifolds.

• Apply engine oiltothreads andseating surfaces ofcylinder
head bolts before installing them.
• Besure toinstall washers betweenboltsandcylinder head.
CAUTION:
The cylinder headboltscanbereused providing dimension
"A"

is not exceeded.

• Tightening procedure:
@ Tighten allbolts to39 N'm (4.0kg-m, 29ft-Ib).
@ Tighten allbolts to78 N'm (8.0kg-m, 58ft-Ib).
@ Loosen allbolts completely.
@ Tighten allbolts to34 to44 N'm (3.5to4.5 kg-m, 25to33
ft-Ib).

19. Apply liquidgasket tomating surface ofLH camshaft end
bracket asshown inillustration.
• Use Genuine LiquidGasket orequivalent.
20. Install camshafts, camshaftbrackets,oiltubes andbaffle
plate.
• Position camshaft.
• LHcamshaft keyatabout 12o'clock
• RHcamshaft keyatabout 10o'clock

Apply engine oiltobearings andcam surfaces ofcamshafts
before installing them.

• Position camshaft bracketsasshown inillustration.

Apply engine oiltothreads andseating surfaces ofcamshaft
bracket boltsbefore installing them.

• Make surethatNo.1 piston isset at

24. Install chaintensioner.

Make surethecamshaft sprockets aretightened completely.
Press camstopper downand"press-in" sleeveuntilhook can
be engaged onpin. When tensioner isbolted inposition the
hook willrelease automatically. Makesurearrow "A"points
toward enginefront.

25. Install oilfilter bracket andpower steering oilpump bracket.

35. Install radiator.
36. Refit hoses andrefill withcoolant. (RefertoMA section.)
37. Install engine sidecover andfront RHwheel.
38. Install engine undercovers.
