Refer toall Warnings andCautions inthe ªChild
safetyº andªChild restraintsº sectionsbefore
installing achild restraint.
Do not use thelower anchors ifthe combined
weight ofthe child andthechild restraint
exceeds 65lbs (29.5 kg).If the combined
weight ofthe child andthechild restraint is
greater than65lbs (29.5 kg),use thevehicle's
seat belt(not thelower anchors) toinstall the
child restraint. Besure tofollow thechild
restraint manufacturer's instructionsforinstalla-
tion.
Follow thesestepstoinstall aforward-facing
child restraint usingthevehicle seatbeltinthe rear
seats orinthe front passenger seat:
1. Ifyou must install achild restraint in
the front seat,itshould beplaced ina
forward-facing directiononly.Move the
seat tothe rearmost position.Child
restraints forinfants mustbeused in
the rear-facing directionand,therefore,
must notbeused inthe front seat.
2. Position thechild restraint onthe seat.
Always followthechild restraint manufac-
turer's instructions.
The back ofthe child restraint shouldbe
secured againstthevehicle seatback.
If necessary ,adjust orremove thehead
restraint toobtain thecorrect childrestraint
fit. Ifthe head restraint isremoved, storeitin
a secure place.Besure toreinstall the
head restraint whenthechild restraint
is removed. SeeªHead restraints/head-
restsº (P.1-5) forhead restraint adjustment,
removal andinstallation information.
If the seating position doesnothave an
adjustable headrestraint anditis interfering
with theproper childrestraint fit,try another
seating position oradifferent child
restraint.

3. Route theseat belttongue through thechild
restraint andinsert itinto thebuckle untilyou
hear andfeelthelatch engage. Besure to
follow thechild restraint manufacturer's
instructions forbelt routing.
If the child restraint isequipped withatop
tether strap,routethetop tether strapand
secure thetether straptothe tether anchor
point (rearseatinstallation only).See
ªInstalling toptether strapº (P.1-34) .Do
not install childrestraints thatrequire the
use ofatop tether strapinseating positions
that donot have atop tether anchor.

4. Pull theshoulder beltuntil thebelt isfully
extended. Atthis time, theseat beltretractor
is in the Automatic LockingRetractor (ALR)
mode (childrestraint mode).It reverts to
Emergency LockingRetractor (ELR)mode
when theseat beltisfully
retracted.

5. Allow theseat belttoretract. Pulluponthe
shoulder belttoremove anyslack inthe
belt.

6. Remove anyadditional slackfromtheseat
belt; press downward andrearward firmlyin
the center ofthe child restraint withyour
knee tocompress thevehicle seatcushion
and seatback whilepulling uponthe seat
belt.
7. Tighten thetether strapaccording tothe
manufacturer's instructionstoremove any
slack.

8. After attaching thechild restraint, testit
before youplace thechild init.Push itfrom
side toside while holding thechild restraint
near theseat beltpath. Thechild restraint
should notmove morethan1inch (25mm) ,
from sidetoside. Try to tug itforward and
check tosee ifthe belt holds therestraint in
place. Ifthe restraint isnot secure, tighten
the seat beltasnecessary ,or put the
restraint inanother seatandtestitagain.
Y ou may need totry adifferent child
restraint. Notallchild restraints fitinall
types ofvehicles.
9. Check tomake surethechild restraint is
properly securedpriortoeach use.Ifthe seat
beltisnot locked, repeatsteps2
through 8.

10. Ifthe child restraint isinstalled inthe front
passenger seat,place theignition switchin
the ON position. Thefront passenger airbag
status
light
should illuminate. Ifthis light
is not illuminated, seeªFront passenger air
bag andstatus lightº(P.1-46) .Move the
child restraint toanother seatingposi-
tion. Have thesystem checked bya
NISSAN dealer.
After thechild restraint isremoved andtheseat
belt isfully retracted, theALR mode (child
restraint mode)iscanceled.

Installing toptether strap

WARNING
Child restraint anchorages arede-
signed towithstand onlythose loads
imposed bycorrectly fittedchildre-
straints. Undernocircumstances are
they tobe used toattach adultseat
belts, orother items orequipment to
the vehicle. Doingsocould damage the
child restraint anchorages. Thechild
restraint willnotbeproperly installed
using thedamaged anchorage, anda
child could beseriously injuredorkilled in
acollision.
The child restraint toptether strapmustbeused
when installing thechild restraint withtheseat
belts.
First, secure thechild restraint withtheseat belt.
1. Remove thehead restraint andstore itin a
secure place.Besure toreinstall thehead
restraint whenthechild restraint isremoved
(rear outboard seatpositions) .
See ªHead restraints/headrestsº (P.1-5) for
head restraint adjustment, removaland
installation information.
P osition thetop tether strapoverthetop of
the seatback.
2. Secure thetop tether straptothe tether
anchor pointonthe back ofthe seatback
behind thechild restraint.
3. Refer tothe appropriate childrestraint
installation procedurestepsinthis section
before tightening thetether strap.
If you have anyquestions wheninstalling a
top tether strap,consult yourNISSAN
dealer fordetails.

Precautions onbooster seats

If abooster seatandseat beltarenot
used properly, therisk ofachild being
injured inasudden stoporcollision
greatly increases:
. Make suretheshoulder portionof
the belt isaway fromthechild's face
and neck andthelapportion ofthe
belt does notcross thestomach.
. Make suretheshoulder beltisnot
behind thechild orunder thechild's
arm.
. Abooster seatmust onlybein-
stalled inaseating position thathas
a lap/shoulder belt.

Booster seatsofvarious sizesareoffered by
several manufacturers. Whenselecting any
booster seat,keep thefollowing pointsinmind:
. Choose onlyabooster seatwithalabel
certifying thatitcomplies withFederal Motor
V ehicle Safety Standard 213orCanadian
Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213.
. Check thebooster seatinyour vehicle tobe
sure itis compatible withthevehicle's seat
and seat belt
system.

supported bythe booster seatorvehicle
seat. Theseatback mustbeator above the
center ofthe child's ears.Forexample, ifa
low back booster seat

4. Position thelapportion ofthe seat beltlow
and snug onthe child's hips.Besure to
follow thebooster seatmanufacturer's
instructions foradjusting theseat belt
routing.
5. Pull theshoulder beltportion ofthe seat belt
toward theretractor totake upextra slack.
Be sure theshoulder beltispositioned
across thetop, middle portion ofthe child's
shoulder. Besure tofollow thebooster seat
manufacturer's instructionsforadjusting the
seat beltrouting.
6. Follow thewarnings, cautionsandinstruc-
tions forproperly fastening aseat belt
shown inªSeat beltsº (P.1-10) .

7. Ifthe booster seatisinstalled inthe front
passenger seat,place theignition switchin
the ON position. Thefront passenger airbag
status light
may ormay notilluminate
depending onthe size ofthe child andthe

This Supplemental RestraintSystem(SRS)
section contains important information concern-
ing the following systems:
. Driver andpassenger supplemental front-
impact airbag (NISSAN Advanced AirBag
System)
. Front seat-mounted side-impactsupple-
mental airbag
. Roof-mounted curtainside-impact supple-
mental airbag
. Seat beltwith pretensioner
Supplemental front-impactairbag system:
The NISSAN Advanced AirBag System can
help cushion theimpact forcetothe head and
chest ofthe driver andfront passenger incertain
frontal collisions.
Front seat-mounted side-impactsupple-
mental airbag system: Thissystem canhelp
cushion theimpact forcetothe chest andpelvic
area ofthe driver andfront passenger incertain
side impact collisions. Theside airbag is
designed toinflate onthe side where thevehicle
is impacted.
Roof-mounted curtainside-impact supple-
mental airbag system: Thissystem canhelp
cushion theimpact forcetothe head ofoccupants
infront andrear outboard seating
positions incertain sideimpact collisions. The
curtain airbags aredesigned toinflate onthe
side where thevehicle isimpacted.
These supplemental restraintsystems arede-
signed tosupplement thecrash protection
provided bythe driver andpassenger seatbelts
and arenot asubstitute forthem. Seatbelts
should always becorrectly wornandthe
occupant seatedasuitable distance awayfrom
the steering wheel,instrument panelanddoor
finishers. (SeeªSeat beltsº (P.1-10) forinstruc-
tions andprecautions onseat beltusage.)
The supplemental airbags operate only
when theignition switchisin the ON
position.
After theignition isplaced inthe ON
position, thesupplemental airbag warning
light illuminates. Thesupplemental airbag
warning lightwillturn offafter about 7
seconds ifthe systems areoperational.

WARNING
. The front airbags ordinarily willnot
inflate inthe event ofaside impact,
rear impact, rollover, orlower se-
verity frontal collision. Alwayswear
your seatbelts tohelp reduce the
risk orseverity ofinjury invarious
kinds ofaccidents.
. The front passenger airbag willnot
inflate ifthe passenger airbag
status lightislit or ifthe front
passenger seatisunoccupied. See
ªFront passenger airbag andstatus
lightº (P.1-46) .
. The seat belts andthefront airbags
are most effective whenyouare
sitting wellback andupright inthe
seat withboth feetonthe floor. The
front airbags inflate withgreat
force. EvenwiththeNISSAN Ad-
vanced AirBag System, ifyou are
unrestrained, leaningforward, sit-
ting sideways orout ofposition in
any way, youareatgreater riskof
injury ordeath inacrash. You may
also receive serious orfatal injuries
from thefront airbag ifyou areup
against itwhen itinflates. Alwayssit

ing wheel orinstrument panel.Al-
ways usetheseat belts.
. The driver andfront passenger seat
belt buckles areequipped with
sensors thatdetect ifthe seat belts
are fastened. TheAdvanced AirBag
System monitors theseverity ofa
collision andseat beltusage then
inflates theairbags. Failure to
properly wearseatbelts canin-
crease therisk orseverity ofinjury
in an accident.
. The front passenger seatis
equipped withoccupant classifica-
tion sensors (weightsensors) that
turn thefront passenger airbag
OFF under someconditions. This
sensor isonly used inthis seat.
Failure tobe properly seatedand
wearing theseat beltcanincrease
the risk orseverity ofinjury inan
accident. SeeªFront passenger air
bag andstatus lightº(P.1-46) .
. Keep hands onthe outside ofthe
steering wheel.Placing theminside
the steering wheelrimcould in-
crease therisk that they areinjured if
the front airbag inflates.
