3. Remove union bolts and torque member mounting bolts, and
remove caliper assembly.
4. Remove disc rotor.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:
lRefill with new brake fluid “DOT 3” or “DOT 4”.
lNever reuse drained brake fluid.
1. Install disc rotor.
2. Install caliper assembly. Tighten mounting bolts to the specified torque.
CAUTION:
Before installing caliper assembly, wipe oil and grease on the trailing arm washer seats and cali-
per assembly mounting surface.
3. Connect brake hose to caliper assembly and tighten union bolts to the specified torque.
CAUTION:
lDo not reuse the copper washer for union bolts.
lSecurely assemble brake hose to protrusions on cylinder body.
4. Bleed air. Refer toBR-10, "
Bleeding Brake System".

DISASSEMBLY
WA RN ING:
Be careful not to pinch your fingers in the piston.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the cylinder inner wall.
1. Place a wooden block as shown in the figure. Blow air into union
bolt mounting hole to remove pistons and piston boots.

Caliper Removal and InstallationEFS00180
REMOVAL
1. Connect a vinyl tube to the air bleeder.
2. Drain brake fluid gradually from air bleeder while depressing
brake pedal.
3. Remove brake hose connected to caliper assembly and union
bolts. Remove brake hose from caliper assembly.
4. Remove union bolts and torque member mounting bolts, and
remove caliper assembly.
5. Remove disc rotor.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:
lRefill with new brake fluid “ DOT 3 or DOT 4”.
lNever reuse drained brake fluid.
1. Install disc rotor.
2. Install caliper assembly. Tighten mounting bolts to the specified torque.
CAUTION:
Wipe oil and grease on axle assembly washer seats and caliper assembly mounting surface.
Install caliper assembly.
3. Connect brake hose to caliper assembly and tighten union bolts to the specified torque.
CAUTION:
lDo not reuse the copper washer for union bolts.

DISASSEMBLY
WA RN ING:

1. Remove caliper assembly from vehicle.
2. Remove sliding pin from cylinder body. Then remove pads,
shims, shim covers, and pad retainers from caliper assembly.
3. Remove sliding pin boots from torque member.
4. Using a slotted screwdriver (as shown in the figure), remove pis-
ton seals.

4. Fix piston boot with retaining ring.
CAUTION:
lBe sure boot is securely engaged in groove on cylinder
body.
lDo not reuse retaining ring.
5. Connect sliding pins and sliding pin boots to torque member.
6. Connect torque member to axle assembly and tighten mounting
bolts to specified torque.
CAUTION:
Wipe oil and grease on axle assembly washer seats and torque
member mounting surface. Install torque member to axle
assembly.
7. Connect pads, pad retainers, shims, and shim covers to torque member and assemble cylinder body.
8. Tighten sliding pin bolts to the specified torque.
9. Connect brake hose to caliper assembly and tighten union bolts to the specified torque.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse union bolt copper washer.
10. After installing caliper assembly, refill with new brake fluid and bleed air. Refer toBR-10, "
Bleeding Brake
System"

NOTE:

stroke may be changed. This is a normal condition.
l“TEST STOP” is displayed 10 seconds later from the operation
start.
lTo perform test again after “TEST STOP” is displayed, repeat
step 6 of operation procedure.
ABS motor
Touch “ON” and “OFF” on screen. Check ABS motor relay operates
as shown in the following chart.
NOTE:
lIf active test is performed with brake pedal depressed, pedal
stroke may be changed. This is a normal condition.
l“TEST STOP” is displayed 10 seconds later from the operation
start.
Active test
4WD solenoid valve
Under the vehicle stopped with engine running, touch UP, DOWN on
screen. Adjust 4WD solenoid command current.
Check the monitor current at that time. If monitor current is within
Approx.±10%, light switch is normal.
CAUTION:
Do not continuously energize solenoid for long period of time.

ABS ACTUATOR
lDisconnect each ABS actuator E69, E70, E71 connector. Con-
firm continuity and resistance value between each pair of ABS
actuator-side terminal.
CAUTION:
Be sure ABS motor is securely grounded.

nals. Securely connect them again. Perform the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit self-diagnosis again.
NO >> Replace sensor rotor.

Check the self-diagnosis results.

YES >> Repair or replace affected items.

1. Perform the ECM self-diagnosis and repair or replace affected items, then perform the ECM self-diagno-
sis again.
2. Perform the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit self-diagnosis again.
Is inspection result OK?
OK >> Inspection End
NG >> Repair or replace affected items. Perform the self-diagnosis again.

Are any self-diagnosis items indicated again?
YES >> GO TO 3.
NO >> Repair or replace the poorly connected connector.
3.ACTUATOR MOTOR, MOTOR RELAY POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT INSPECTION
1. Disconnect relay box connectors.
2. Check the voltage between the vehicle-side connector and body ground.
Is inspection result OK?
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >>
lCheck the fuse 50A.
lCheck for continuity between the battery and the relay box terminal No. 10.
4.ACTUATOR MOTOR AND MOTOR RELAY CIRCUIT CHECK
1. Disconnect connectors for the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit and
the relay box.
2. Check for continuity between the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit,
the relay, and the actuator (vehicle-side connector).
Is inspection result OK?
YES >> GO TO 5.
NO >> Harness malfunction between the ESP/TCS/
ABS control unit, the relay box and the actuator.

Check the self-diagnosis results.
Is
²STOP LAMP SW²indicated in the self-diagnosis results?
>> GO TO 2.
2.STOP LAMP INSPECTION
1. Disconnect connectors for the stop lamp switch and the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit.
2. Securely connect them again.
3. Start the engine.
4. Repeat depressing the brake pedal carefully several times, then perform the self-diagnosis again.
Is the same self-diagnosis item indicated?
YES >> GO TO 3.
NO >> Repair or replace the poorly connected connector.
3.STOP LAMP SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK
1. Disconnect connectors for the stop lamp switch and the ESP/
TCS/ABS control unit.
2. Check for continuity between the stop lamp switch (vehicle-side
connector) and the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit (vehicle-side
connector).
Is inspection result OK?
OK >> Perform the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit self-diagnosis again.
NG >> Harness disconnection between the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit and the stop lamp switch.

YES >> GO TO 3.

3.ESP/TCS/ABS CONTROL UNIT POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT INSPECTION 1
1. Disconnect the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (engine not running), and check the
voltage between the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit (vehicle-side
connector) and body ground.
Is inspection result OK?
YES >> GO TO 4.
NO >> GO TO 5.
4.ESP/TCS/ABS CONTROL UNIT GROUND CIRCUIT INSPECTION 1
Check the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit ground circuit.
Is inspection result OK?
OK >> Perform the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit self-diagnosis again.
NG >> Harness disconnection or improper installation of the ESP/TCS/ABS control unit.
