Reduced exhaust emissions
TOTAL lubricants are formulated to optimise the
effi ciency of engines and the protection of the
emissions post-treatment systems. It is crucial to
observe the servicing recommendations made by
PEUGEOT to ensure correct operation.

FUEL TANK
Fuel tank capacity: approximately 55 litres.
LOW FUEL LEVEL
FILLING
When the fuel tank minimum level is reached this warning
lamp comes on on the instrument panel, accompanied by an
audible signal and an alert message. When it fi rst comes on
there remains approximately 5 litres of fuel in the tank.
Until suffi cient fuel is added, this warning lamp appears every time
the ignition is switched on, accompanied by an audible signal and a
message. When driving, this audible signal and display of the alert
message are repeated with increasing frequency as the fuel level drops
towards "0" .
Refuel as soon as possible to avoid running out of fuel.
If you run out of fuel (Diesel), refer also to the "Running out of fue\
l
(Diesel)" section.
A label affi xed to the inside of the fl ap reminds you of the type of fuel to
be used depending on your engine.
Additions of fuel must be of at least 5 litres, in order to be registere\
d by
the fuel gauge. To fi ll the tank in complete safety:
 the engine must be switched off,

 press the rear part of the fl ap, then raise it to open it,
 turn the cap to the left,
 remove the cap and hook it onto the clip located on the inside of the fl ap,
 fi ll the tank, but do not continue after the 3rd cut-off of the
pump ; this could cause malfunctions.
Opening the fi ller cap may create a noise a caused by an inrush
of air. This vacuum is entirely normal, resulting from the sealing of
the fuel system.

CHECKS
QUALITY OF THE FUEL USED FOR PETROL
ENGINES
The petrol engines are perfectly compatible with E10 or E24 type petrol \
biofuels (containing 10 % or 24 % ethanol), conforming to European
standards EN 228 and EN 15376.
E85 type fuels (containing up to 85 % ethanol) are reserved exclusivel\
y
for vehicles marketed for the use of this type of fuel (BioFlex vehicle\
s).
The quality of the ethanol must comply with European standard
EN 15293.
For Brazil only, special vehicles are marketed to run on fuels containing
up to 100 % ethanol (E100 type).
QUALITY OF THE FUEL USED FOR DIESEL
ENGINES
The Diesel engines are perfectly compatible with biofuels which
conform to current and future European standards (Diesel fuel which
complies with standard EN 590 mixed with a biofuel which complies
with standard EN 14214) available at the pumps (containing up to
7 % Fatty Acid Methyl Ester).
The B30 biofuel can be used in certain Diesel engines; however, this
use is subject to strict application of the special servicing conditions\
.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualifi ed workshop.
The use of any other type of (bio)fuel (vegetable or animal oils, pur\
e
or diluted, domestic fuel...) is strictly prohibited (risk of damage t\
o the
engine and fuel system).
When you have fi lled the tank:
 put the cap back in place,
 turn it to the right,
 close the fl ap.
Freezing conditions
In these conditions, the fi ller fl ap may be jammed.
Opening the boot gives access to the fl ap, allowing it to be
released by hand.

BONNET
OPENING
 Open the front left door.
 Pull the interior release lever A , located at the bottom of the door
aperture.
CLOSING
 Lower the bonnet and release it at the end of its travel.
 Pull on the bonnet to check that it is fully latched.  Push the exterior safety catch B to the left and raise the bonnet.
The bonnet is held open by the two side struts.
The location of the interior release lever prevents opening of the
bonnet while the front left door is closed.
When the engine is hot, handle the safety catch with care (risk of
burns).
Because of the presence of electrical equipment under the bonnet,
it is recommended that exposure to water (rain, washing, ...) be
limited.

The various caps and covers allow access for checking the levels of the various fl uids and for replacing certain components.

3. Coolant reservoir.

7. Air fi lter.
8. Engine oil dipstick.
9. Engine oil fi ller cap.

DIESEL ENGINE
The various caps and covers allow access for checking the levels of the various fl uids, for replacing certain components and for priming the fuel system.
1. Power steering reservoir.
2. Screenwash and headlamp wash reservoir.
3. Coolant reservoir.

CHECKS

2 LITRE HDI ENGINE
 Fill the fuel tank with at least fi ve litres of Diesel.
 Open the bonnet.
 If necessary, unclip the style cover for access to the priming pump.
 Slacken the bleed screw.
 Squeeze and release the priming pump repeatedly until fuel appears in the transparent pipe.
 Tighten the bleed screw.
 Operate the starter until the engine starts (if the engine fails to sta\
rt at the fi rst attempt, wait around 15 seconds before trying again).
 If the engine fails to start after a few attempts, operate the priming pump again, then the starter.
 Put the style cover back in position and clip it in place, ensuring that\
it has clipped correctly.
 Close the bonnet.
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL (DIESEL)
If the engine does not start fi rst time, don't keep trying.
Operate the priming pump again, then the starter motor.
On vehicle fi tted with HDi engines, the fuel system must be primed
if you run out of fuel; refer to the engine compartment view on the
"Diesel engine" page.

CHECKING LEVELS
ENGINE OIL LEVEL
The check is carried out either when the ignition is switched
on using the oil level indicator in the instrument panel, or using
the dipstick.
Take care when working under the bonnet, as certain areas of the engine m\
ay be extremely hot (risk of burns) and the cooling fan could start
at any time (even with the ignition off).
Check all of these levels regularly, in line with the warranty and maintenance record. Top them up if necessary, unless otherwise indicated.
If a level drops signifi cantly, have the corresponding system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualifi ed workshop.
To ensure that the reading is correct, your vehicle must be on
level ground and the engine must have been off for more than
30 minutes.
It is normal to top up the oil level between two services (or oil chang\
es).
PEUGEOT recommends that you check the level, and top up if
necessary, every 3 000 miles (5 000 kms).
Checking using the dipstick
Refer to the "Petrol engine" or "Diesel engine" section for the location\
of
the dipstick in the engine compartment of your vehicle.
- Take the dipstick by its coloured grip and remove it completely.
- Wipe the end of the dipstick using a clean non-fl uffy cloth.
- Refi t the dipstick and push fully down, then pull it out again to make the visual check: the correct level is between the marks A and B . A = MAX
B = MIN
If you fi nd that the level is above the A mark or below the B mark, do
not start the engine .
- If the level is above the MAX mark (risk of damage to the engine),
contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualifi ed workshop.
- If the level is below the MIN mark, you must top up the engine oil.

CHECKS
BRAKE FLUID LEVEL
The brake fl uid level should be close to the "MAX" mark. If it is
not, check the brake pad wear.
Changing the fluid
Refer to the warranty and maintenance record for details of the interval\

for this operation.
Fluid specification
The brake fl uid must conform to the manufacturer's recommendations.
POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL
The power steering fl uid level should be close to the "MAX"
mark. With the engine cold, unscrew the cap to check the level.
Topping up the engine oil level
Oil grade
The oil must be the correct grade for your engine and conform to the
manufacturer's recommendations.
Refer to the "Petrol engine" or "Diesel engine" section to identify the \
location of the oil fi ller cap in the engine compartment of your vehicle.
- Unscrew the oil fi ller cap to reveal the fi ller aperture.
- Add oil in small quantities, avoiding any spills on engine components (risk of fi re).
- Wait a few minutes before checking the level again using the dipstick.
- Add more oil if necessary.
- After checking the level, carefully refi t the oil fi ller cap and the dipstick in its tube.
After topping up the oil, the check when switching on the ignition with \
the oil level indicator in the instrument panel is not valid during the \
30 minutes after topping up.
Engine oil change
Refer to the warranty and maintenance record for details of the interval\

for this operation.
In order to maintain the reliability of the engine and emission control \
system, the use of additives in the engine oil is prohibited.

DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVE LEVEL (DIESEL WITH
PARTICLE EMISSIONS FILTER)
The additive reservoir low level is indicated by fi xed illumination
of this warning lamp, accompanied by an audible signal and
a message that the particle emissions fi lter additive level is
too low.
Topping up
The reservoir must be topped up without delay by a PEUGEOT dealer
or a qualifi ed workshop.
USED PRODUCTS
Avoid prolonged contact of used oil or fl uids with the skin.
Most of these fl uids are harmful to health or indeed very corrosive.
Do not discard used oil or fl uids into sewers or onto the ground.
Take used oil to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualifi ed workshop
(France) or to an authorised waste disposal site.
COOLANT LEVEL
The coolant level should be close to the "MAX" mark but
should never exceed it.
When the engine is warm, the temperature of the coolant is regulated
by the fan.
In addition, as the cooling system is pressurised, wait at least one hou\
r
after switching off the engine before carrying out any work.
To avoid any risk of scalding, unscrew the cap by two turns to allow the \
pressure to drop. When the pressure has dropped, remove the cap and
top up the level. The cooling fan may start after switching off the engine: take
care with articles and clothing that might become caught by the
fan blades.
Fluid specification
The coolant must conform to the manufacturer's recommendations.
SCREENWASH AND HEADLAMP WASH FLUID
In the case of vehicles fi tted with headlamp washers, the low
fl uid level is indicated by an audible signal and a message in
the instrument panel screen.
Top up the reservoir when you next stop the vehicle.
Fluid specification
For optimum cleaning and to avoid freezing, this fl uid must not be
topped up with or replaced with plain water.
In wintry conditions, the use of an ethyl alcohol or methanol base fl uid is
recommended.
