NOTESPriority when dealing with a number of faults:
Deal first with faults DF003, DF004, DF028, DF029, DF035, DF041, DF042, DF043,
DF047, DF050, DF054, DF055, DF057, DF058 and DF073 if they are present or
stored.
Conditions for applying the fault finding procedure to a stored fault:
The fault is declared present after the ignition is switched on (forced + after ignition
feed, see Introduction) and a brake release request using the control lever.
Special notes:
The fault does not usually come from the electronic parking brake computer.
8 applications (in 2 seconds) using the control lever without pressing the release
switch causes the fault to appear as present.
Only for Vdiag 08, 0C and 0D:
If there is a stored fault, refer to the statuses and parameters when it appears.
Explanation of counters: see Introduction.
If the fault is stored and PR018 = 0 and PR022 > 25 clear the fault: do not take this
fault into account.
If the fault is stored and PR019 < 3, clear the fault: do not take this fault into account.
Using the diagnostic tool (PARKING sub-function), check the operation of the parking brake control lever.
With the ignition switched on, statuses ET008, ET009 and ET010 should operate as follows:

1. DEF: Inconsistent braking value
2. DEF: Normal brake application value not reached
3. DEF: Normal brake release value not reached
4. DEF: Insufficient braking force
NOTESConditions for applying the fault finding procedure to a stored fault:
The fault is declared present after:
– a braking command is issued on a slope.
Priorities when dealing with a number of faults:
Deal with faults: DF046 Brake motor / cables connection, DF050 Mechanical
seizure, DF035 Undervoltage, DF058 Parking brake motor current and DF055
Battery undervoltage first if they are present or stored.
Check that the parking brake mechanical tensioning line is correct:
– that the parking brake cables are fitted correctly (refer to the repair procedure),
– that the parking brake cables are in good condition (not seized or deteriorated),
– that the rear brake callipers are correct, in good condition and operating correctly,
– that the rear brake pads are correct and in good condition.
Carry out the necessary repairs.
Using the diagnostic tool statuses screen, display parameter PR003 Slope value.
If the value displayed is not 0 degrees (± 1) on level ground, carry out slope initialisation again (actuator control
mode menu).
Using the diagnostic tool parameters screen, display the following parameters: PR005 Force setpoint and PR004
Measured force value. These must show the various values recorded in the conformity check.
Clear the fault, switch off the ignition for 5 minutes (vehicle doors and windows closed), switch the ignition back
on and repeat a braking command on a slope.
If the fault reappears, switch off the ignition and disconnect the computer supply fuse (fuse F23 of the engine fuse
box, refer to the wiring diagram) for approximately 1 minute.
Reconnect the fuse, switch the ignition on and establish dialogue with the computer. Apply the brake to check
whether the fault recurs.
If the fault reappears despite the above tests, or if the parameter values are not within conformity check
tolerances while the brake is applied, then contact your Techline.
AFTER REPAIRClear the fault memory.
Follow the instructions to confirm repair.
If the computer has been replaced (at the request of the Techline), initialise the
electronic parking brake computer (see Replacement of components).
Issue several braking and release commands to confirm the repair.
Deal with any other possible faults.

1. DEF
NOTESSpecial notes:
The 1.DEF code indicates an inconsistency between the
measured force value (PR004) and the parking brake status
(ET030: Electronic parking brake operation when there
is a fault in the fault context).
This fault can appear after disconnecting the battery
(parking brake applied).
Check the context of the fault when the fault appears:
If ET030 is S TAT U S 5 , S TAT U S 6 , S TAT U S 7 , S TAT U S 8 , S TAT U S 9 o r S TAT U S 1 0 and if PR004 is greater than
450 N and if PR012 Vehicle speed is 0 mph (0 km/h) when the fault appears:
– check to see if the battery has been disconnected, if it has, the appearance of this fault is normal, clear the
fault,
– if not, check the computer supply voltage and the battery.
Repair if necessary.
If the fault persists, contact the Techline.
If ET030 is S TAT U S 5 , S TAT U S 6 , S TAT U S 7 and if PR004 is less than 450 N and if PR012 Vehicle speed is
less than 3 mph (5 km/h) when the fault appears:
– Check for traces of heating on the brakes:
– Check that the pads have returned correctly to the rest position.
– Check that the small lever has sufficient return force.
– Check that there is no friction or points of resistance on the cables.
– If there is no indication of any defective operation of these components and if PR019 < 3 and PR022 >
25 and PR018 < 15, then clear the fault.
– If not, contact the Techline.
If the fault is still present, contact the Techline.
AFTER REPAIRIf the computer has been replaced (at the request of the Techline), initialise the
electronic parking brake computer (see Replacement of components).
Issue several braking and release commands to confirm the repair.

2. DEF
NOTESSpecial notes:
The specification 2.DEF mainly comes from a fault with the
electrical power supply, braking application travel or the
internal force sensor.
If this fault appears after the parking brake has been replaced:
– Check the conformity of the parking brake fitting.
– Check that the battery voltage PR001 is greater than 12.5 V.
– Clear the fault and restart the procedure for fitting the parking brake: see Replacement of components.
Check the fault context when the fault appears: if the battery voltage PR001 is less than 9 V when the fault
appears, then:
– Check the supply line and that the resistance is less than 150 m.
– If there is no sign of a fault on the supply line and if PR019 < 3 and PR022 > 25 and PR018 < 15 then clear
the fault.
Check the fault context when the fault appears: If ET028 Brake switch signal is PRESSED, then:
–If PR019 < 3 and PR022 > 25 and PR018 < 15, then clear the fault.
– The fault can be caused when the user depresses the brake pedal hard, when the parking brake is being
applied. If this is the case, clear the fault.
If there is a loud noise when applying, when maximum braking is requested, then the cause may be mechanical.
Check that the parking brake mechanical tensioning line is correct:
– Parking brake cables correctly fitted.
– Good condition of the parking brake cables (no seizing or deterioration).
– Conformity, condition and proper functioning of the rear brake callipers.
– Condition and conformity of rear brake pads.
– Conformity of rear brakes bleeding.
Carry out the necessary repairs.
Using the diagnostic tool (PARKING sub-function), display the parameters PR005 Force setpoint and PR004
Measured force value. These must have the various values recorded in the conformity check.
If the fault is still present, contact the Techline.
AFTER REPAIRIf the computer has been replaced (at the request of the Techline), initialise the
electronic parking brake computer (see Replacement of components).
Issue several braking and release commands to confirm the repair.

STOREDMULTIPLEX NETWORK
1. DEF: Problem receiving multiplex frames by the parking brake computer. The
computer is not receiving any multiplex signals or else two computers are not
communicating with the parking brake computer
NOTESPriorities when dealing with a number of faults:
Deal first with faults DF003 (1.DEF; 2.DEF), DF004, DF028, DF029, DF041, DF042,
DF043, DF050, DF055, DF057, DF058 and DF073.
Deal with any faults on the multiplex network first (see 88B, Multiplexing).
Conditions for applying the fault finding procedure to a stored fault:
Apply this fault finding procedure if the fault reappears as present after the ignition
has been switched on (forced + after ignition feed, see Introduction).
Special notes:
This fault indicates either a complete absence of multiplex signal transmission (no
inconsistency) to the parking brake control unit, or no multiplex signal transmission
from two computers (the continuity of the multiplex network lines may be correct, but if
two computers fail to respond, this fault appears).
The fault does not usually come from the electronic parking brake computer.
Note:
Using another battery for a boost when starting may trigger this fault.
AFTER REPAIRIf the computer has been replaced (at the request of the Techline), initialise the
electronic parking brake computer (see Replacement of components).
Issue several braking and release commands to confirm the repair.
