If the lever is set to the locked position, therear door cannot be opened using the insidehandle, but only with the outside handle.If the lever is set to the “Unlock” position, thechild protection mechanism does not func-tion.

The tailgate can be locked or unlocked byusing the central door lock switch (driverside).
After unlocking the tailgate, push the tailgateopen switch (A) and pull up the tailgate.Pull the tailgate grip (B) downward as illus-trated. Gently slam the tailgate from the out-side so that it is completely closed. Alwaysensure the tailgate is securely closed.

The electric tailgate can be operated using theremote control switch on the keyless opera-tion key, or the close switch on the tailgatewhen the electric tailgate power switch (A) ison.
CAUTIONzWhen closing the electric tailgate, make surethere is no foreign matter around the striker(A).If foreign matter gets into the striker it couldprevent the electric tailgate from closing nor-mally.NOTE

zIf the electric tailgate handle is operatedwhile the tailgate is operating or immedi-ately after it is closed, the tailgate will movein the direction opposite to the one in whichit was operating.zIf the battery or fuse is replaced while theelectric tailgate is open, it cannot be closedautomatically.In this case close the electric tailgate manu-ally.

After unlocking the doors and the electrictailgate, the electric tailgate can be operatedby pressing the switch (A) of the keylessoperation key or the driver’s side electric tail-gate switch (B).<Using the keyless operation key>If the electric tailgate switch is pressed twicein a row, the electric tailgate operates after thewarning buzzer sounds and the hazard warn-ing flasher brinks 2 times.The electric tailgate operates as follows:
If the electric tailgate switch is pressed oncewhile the tailgate is operating, the warningbuzzer sounds once and it moves in the direc-tion opposite to the one in which it was oper-ating.<Using the driver’s side electric tailgateswitch>If the driver’s side electric tailgate switch ispressed for more than about 1 second, theelectric tailgate operates after the buzzersounds and the hazard warning flasher brinks2 times.The electric tailgate operates as follows.
If the driver’s side electric tailgate switch ispressed once while the tailgate is operating,the warning buzzer sounds once and it movesin the direction opposite to the one in which itwas operating.The electric tailgate can be opened by press-ing the open switch (C).
Operating the electric tailgate using the keyless operation key or the driver’s side electric tailgate switch
•Whileclosed:
The warning buzzer sounds 4times and the tailgate completelyopens.
•Whileopen:
The warning buzzer sounds 3times and the tailgate completelycloses.
NOTE
zIf the electric tailgate switch is pressed 3 ormore times in a row, the tailgate may notoperate normally.If this occurs, wait a short time before againpressing the electric tailgate switch twice.
•Whileclosed:
The warning buzzer sounds 4times and the tailgate completelyopens.
•Whileopen:
The warning buzzer sounds 3times and the tailgate completelycloses.
WA R N I N GzWhen operating the electric tailgate,ensure the safety of the surrounding area,make sure there is sufficient space behindand above the vehicle, and be careful notto bump your head or catch your hands orfingers.

If the open switch is pressed with the tailgateand all doors are unlocked, the electric tail-gate opens after the warning buzzer sounds 4times and the hazard warning flasher brinks 2times.When the tailgate and all doors are locked,the warning buzzer will not sound.
The electric tailgate can be closed by pressingthe close switch (D) on the inside of the elec-tric tailgate.If the close switch on the inside of the electrictailgate is pressed, the electric tailgate closesafter the warning buzzer sounds 3 times andthe hazard warning flasher brinks 2 times.If the close switch is pressed once while thetailgate is closing, the warning buzzer soundsonce and the electric tailgate opens.

The safety mechanism is activated if the elec-tric tailgate should trap a person or an objectduring automatic operation, or if the sensors(A) on either side of the electric tailgate arehit. The warning buzzer sounds once forsafety and the electric tailgate automaticallymoves in the direction opposite to the one inwhich it was operating.

zWhen you are carrying the keyless operationkey with the tailgate is locked, the electrictailgate can be opene

After the electric tailgate is opened automati-cally, if it is detected that the tailgate is drop-ping due to factors such as accumulatedsnow, the electric tailgate is closed automati-cally.A warning buzzer sounds continuously whilethe drop prevention mechanism operates.If the engine is started while the electric tail-gate is operating automatically, it may switchto manual operation due to insufficient bat-tery voltage, making the electric tailgate stopintermittently while it moves. This is to stop
the electric tailgate from operating suddenly.When the tailgate is completely closed oropened, automatic operation is again possibleafter approximately 10 seconds.

The inside tailgate release is designed to pro-vide a way to open the tailgate in the case of adischarged battery.The tailgate release (see illustration) ismounted on the tailgate.Yo u a n d y o u r f a m i l y s h o u l d f a m i l i a r i s e y o u r -selves with the location and operation of thetailgate release.
1. Open the lid (A) inside of the tailgate.2. Move the lever (B) to open the tailgate.3. Push out on the tailgate to open it.

The system preparation time extends from thepoint at which all of the doors and the tailgateare locked by pressing of the LOCK switchon the remote control switch or the keylessoperation function to the point at which thesystem armed mode goes into effect.During this time, it is possible to temporarilyopen a door or the tailgate without using thekeyless entry system or the keyless operationfunction and without causing the alarm tosound (for example, when you forget some-thing inside the vehicle or realize that a win-dow is open).(The buzzer stops and the security indicatorcontinues to blink with the indicator’sreduced lit-up duration time.)Once the system preparation mode has ended,the system armed mode starts.
zIf the turn-signal lamps do not blink after thelocking and unlocking operation using thekeyless entry system or
the keyless operation
function, the security alarm system may bemalfunctioning.Have the vehicle inspected at aMITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorised ServicePoint.If the confirmation function (blinking of theturn-signal lamps by
locking and unlocking
the doors and the tailgate) is deactivated, theturn-signal lamps do not blink after the lock-ing and unloc
king operation.

zThe security alarm system could be activatedin the following situations.•Using a car washer•Taking the vehicle on a ferry•Parking in an automated car park•Leaving someone or a pet in the vehicle•Leaving a window or the sunroof open• Leaving an unstable object such as a stuffedtoy or accessory in the vehicle• Suffering a continuous impact or vibrationby hail, thunder, etc.NOTE
• Air flows by the Remote Climate Control.According to the situations, please deacti-vate the vehicle inclination detection func-tion and the interior intrusion detectionfunction.Refer to “To deactivate the vehicle inclina-tion detection function and the interiorintrusion detection f
