OILSEAL REPLACEMENT
VALVE OILSEAL
1. Remove accelerator cable.
2. Remove rockercoverandoilseparator.
3. Remove camshafts andsprockets.
Refer to"Removal" in"TIMING CHAIN"(EM-69).
4. Remove sparkplugs.
5. Install airhose adapter intospark plugholeandapply air
pressure tohold valves inplace. Applyapressure of490
kPa (4.9bar, 5kg/cm
2,
71psi).
6. Remove rockerarm,rocker armguide andshim.
Air SEM077D
7.Remove valvespring withTool.
Piston concerned shouldbeset atTOe toprevent valvefrom
falling.
8. Remove valveoilseal.
9. Apply engine oiltonew valve oilseal andinstall itwith Tool.
FRONT OILSEAL
1. Remove thefollowing parts:
• Engine undercover
• Front RHwheel andengine sidecover
• Drive belts
• Crankshaft pulley
2. Remove frontoilseal.
Be careful nottoscratch frontcover.

REAR OILSEAL
1. Remove transaxle. (RefertoMT orAT section.)
2. Remove flywheel ordrive plate.
3. Remove rearoilseal.
Be careful nottoscratch rearoilseal retainer.

UNIT
Adjust accel-drum unitwhenever anyofthe following parts
(new orold) areinstalled:
• Accel-drum unit
• Throttle chamber
• Rod (Always replacewithanew oneafter removal.)
1. Install accel-drum unitand throttle chamber.
2. Apply grease allover theinside ofthe rod couplings .
Use genuine Nissangrease orequivalent.
3. Insert eachonecoupling toball links ofthrottle chamber
and accel-drum unit.
4. Loosen locknut.
5. Loosen adjusting screwenough.
6. Manually turnaccel-drum untilthrottle valveisfully open.
• Check thatstopper leverisnot touching adjusting screw.
If itis, loosen adjusting screwtomaintain clearance
between thetwo.
7. Turn adjusting screwuntil
it
touches stopperlever.
8. Back offaccel-drum.
Turn adjusting screw3
rotations clockwise. Lock
nut 9.
Turn adjusting screw3rotations clockwise.
10. Tighten locknut.
~ 4.0-5.4 N.m
(0.41 -0.55 kg-m, 35.6-47.7 In-rb)

CAUTION:
• Apply newengine oiltothe sliding surfaces wheninstalling
sliding parts.Sliding partsinclude rockerarms,camshafts,
oil seal, etc.
• Apply newengine oiltobolt thread andseat surfaces when
tightening thefollowing: Cylinderheadbolts, camshaft
sprocket boltsandcamshaft bracketbolts.
• Ifa hydraulic lashadjuster iskept onitsside, there isarisk
of air entering it.After removal, alwayssethydraulic lash
adjuster straightup,orkeep itsoaked innew engine oil.
• .Do not disassemble hydrauliclashadjusters.
• Attach tagstolash adjusters soasnot tomix them up.
Removal
• This removal procedure isthe same asfor timing chain.
Refer toEM-69.
Disassembly
1. Remove rockerarms,shims, rockerarmguides andhydrau-
lic lash adjusters fromcylinder head.
CAUTION: Keep partsinorder sothat they canbeinstalled intheir origi-
nal positions duringassembly.
2. Remove crankcase ventilation oilseparator.
3. Remove exhaustmanifold cover.
4. Remove exhaustmanifold.
5. Remove wateroutlet.

Resurfacing limit:
The resurfacing limitofcylinder headisdetermined bythe cyl-
inder block resurfacing inan engine.
Amount ofcylinder headresurfacing is

After resurfacing cylinderhead,check thatcamshaft rotates
freely byhand. Ifresistance isfelt, cylinder headmustbe
replaced.

CAMSHAFT VISUALCHECK
Check camshaft forscratches, seizureandwear.
CAMSHAFT RUNOUT
1. Measure camshaft runoutatthe center journal.
Runout (Totalindicator reading):
Standard Less than0.02mm(0.0008 in)
Limit
0.1 mm (0.004 in)
2. Ifitexceeds thelimit, replace camshaft.

1. Install camshaft bracketandtighten boltstothe specified
torque.
2. Measure innerdiameter ofcamshaft bearing.
Standard innerdiameter:
28.000 -28.021 mm(1.1024 -1.1032 in)
Measure outerdiameter ofcamshaft journal.
Standard outerdiameter:
27.935 .27.955 mm(1.0998 -1.1006 in)
If clearance exceedsthelimit, replace camshaft and/orcyl-
inder head.
Camshaft journalclearance:
Standard 0.045 -0.086 mm(0.0018 .0.0034 in)
Limit 0.15 mm(0.0059 in)
CAMSHAFT ENDPLAY
1. Install camshaft incylinder head.
2. Measure camshaft endplay.
Camshaft endplay:
Standard 0.055. 0.139mm(0.0022 -0.0055 in)
Limit 0.20 mm(0.0079 in)
CAMSHAFT SPROCKETRUNOUT
1. Install sprocket oncamshaft.
2. Measure camshaft sprocketrunout.
Runout (Totalindicator reading):
Limit 0.25mm(0.0098 in)
3. Ifitexceeds thelimit, replace camshaft sprocket.

Check valveseatsforany evidence ofpitting atvalve contact
surface. Resetorreplace ifithas worn outexcessively.
• Before repairing valveseats, checkvalveandvalve guide
for wear. Ifthey have worn, replace them.Thencorrect
valve seat.
• Cut with both hands touniform thecutting surface.
REPLACING VALVESEATFORSERVICE PARTS
1. Bore outoldseat until
it
collapses. Boringshould notcon-
tinue beyond thebottom faceofthe seat recess incylinder
head. Setthemachine depthstoptoensure this.
2. Ream cylinder headrecess.
Reaming boreforservice valveseat
Oversize [0.5mm (0.020 in)]:
Intake 35.500-35.516 mm(1.3976 -1.3983 in)
Exhaust 31.500.31.516 mm(1.2402 -1.2408 in)
Be sure toream incircles concentric tothe valve guide center.
This willenable valveseattofit correctly.
