If this driver message appears after the ignition

a ft er a whi le, the battery has been adequately re ­
c h arged .
Driver message appears and does not go out
again
I f this drive r notific ation appea rs after the igni­
tion is turned on or while driv ing and does not go
out again, the battery's state of charge is not in
the optimal range. Starting capability is restrict­
ed. Have the battery checked at an a uthori zed
Audi dealer or other qualified workshop as soon
as possib le.

Check light and battery in the master key

Check light in the maste r key
The check light@c::> fig. 25 in the maste r key
provides information about different condit io ns.
• The check light comes on b riefly once when a
button is pressed, and during an "i nq ui ry" by
the conven ience key system .
• If the check light does not come on, the battery
is dead and has to be replaced. In addition,
when the batt ery is dead the

as the message:

• Pull the mechanica l key out of the master key
c::> page34.
• Press the release button @ c::> fig. 25 on the
battery holder and at the same time pull the
battery holder out of the master key in the di­
rection of the arrow .
• Install the new battery CR 2032 with the "+"
s ign facing down .
• Pu sh the battery holder carefully into the mas ­
ter key.

Dispose of dead bat teries properly so as not
to po llute the e nvironment .

The replacement batte ry must be the same

Removing the mechanical key

at least 15 seconds before trying another

cle in view when doing this .
- After programm ing the garage door opener,
it may be necessary to synchron ize the mo­
tor with the sys tem . Refer to the manufac­
t u rer 's ins truct ions.

Travel mode (Canada models)*
The headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro­
vides stronger illumination on the side of the
road on which you are driving. If you are driving
in a country that drives on the opposite side of
the road from your own country, this will cause
glare for oncoming drivers. To prevent glare:
- Travel mode must be selected in vehicles with
Xenon headlights*.
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, certain
areas of the headlight lenses must be covered
with waterproof adhesive covers that prevent
light from passing through. For more informa­
tion, please see your authori zed Audi dealer or
authorized repair facility .
(!) Tips
When travel mode* is activated, a display in
the driver information system indicates this each time you switch the ignition on .
Adaptive light
Applies to: vehicles with adaptive light
When driving around bends, the relevan t area of
the rood is better illuminated .

Switching on adaptive light

The adaptive light system is a combination of the
dynamic and the static cornering lights . With the
lights switched on, the dynamic cornering light
adapts to driving on curves . This is dependent
upon the vehicle speed and steering angle. This
provides better lighting through the curve. The

system operates in a speed range from approxi­
mately 6 mph (10 km/h) to 68 mph (110 km/h).
The static cornering light switches on at speeds
of up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) when a
certain steering wheel angle is reached or when a
turn signal is activated. The area to the side of
the vehicle is illuminated better when turning.
Emergency flashers
The emergency flashers makes other motorists
aware that you or your vehicle ore in on emer­
gency situation.

gency flashers on or off .
When the emergency flashers are on, all four
turn signals blink at the same time . The turn sig­
nal indicator lights
B II in the instrument clus­
ter , as well as the light in the emergency flasher
switch ~ blink likewise. The emergency flashers
also work when the ignition is turned off.
The emergency flashers will turn on automatical­
ly if you are in an accident where the airbag has
deployed .
(0 Tips
You should turn on the emergency flashers
when:
-you are the last vehicle standing in a traffic
jam so that any other vehicles coming can
see you, or when
-your vehicle has broken down or you are in
an emergency situation, or when

The basic brightness of the illumination for the
instruments, the cen ter console and the display

The inst rument ill umination (for dia ls and
needles) lig hts o n when the ignition is switch ­
ed on and t he vehi cle lights are turned off . As
t he daylight fade s, the illum ina tio n of the di­
a ls li kewise dims au toma tically a nd wil l go
ou t com plete ly when the outs ide light is very
low. This feature is meant to remi nd you to
sw itch on the headlights when o utsi de light
conditions become poor.

Using the sun visors makes driving safer .

Vanity mirror
The v anity mirrors on the sun visors are covered.
When the lid is opened @, the mirro r light in the
head line r turns on automatically . It turns off
when the lid is closed and the visor is fo lded up
again.

-If swallowed and person is conscious, rinse
mouth with water for at least 15 minutes.
Do not induce vomiting unless instructed to
do so by medical professional. Get medical
attention immediately.
(D Note
Liquid electrolyte leaking from broken mirror
glass will damage any plastic surfaces it
comes in contact with . Clean up spilled elec­
trolyte immediately with clean water and a
sponge.
{D) Tips
- Switching off the dimming function of the
inside rear view mirror also deactivates the
automatic dimming function of the exterior mirrors*.
- The automatic dimming mirrors do not dim
when the interior lighting is turned on or
the reverse gear is selected.
- Automatic dimming for the mirror only op­
erates properly if the light striking the in­
side mirror is not hindered by other objects.
Digital compass
Activating or deactivating the compass
Applies to: vehicles with digital compass
The direction is displayed on the interior rear
view mirror.

The digital compass only works with the ignition
turned on. The directions are displayed as initials:
N (North), NE (Northeast), E (East), SE (South­
east),
S (South), SW (Southwest), W (West), NW
(Northwest).

To avoid inaccurate directions, do not allow any remote controls, electrical systems, or
metal parts close to the mirror.
Setting the magnetic deflection zone
Applies to : vehicles with digital compass
The correct magnetic deflection zone must be
set in order to display the directions correctly.

Calibrating the compass
Applies to: vehicles with digital compass
The compass has to be recalibrated if the display
is wrong or inaccurate .
.. Hold the@ button down until the letter C is
displayed on the interior rear view mirror .
.,. Drive in a circle at a speed of about 6 mph (10
km/h) until a d irection is shown on the interior
. . rear view mirror.
A WARNING
The digital compass is to be used as a direc­
tional aid only. Even though you may want to
look at it whi le you are dr iving, you must sti ll
pay attention to traffic, road and weather
conditions as well as other possible hazards.

the a rm . T he arm swings back by itself and au ­
tomat ically secures the bev erage.
Clo sing the rear cupholders
• To close the rear cupholder, press on the center
section between the two arms and p ush the c u­
pholder in the s lot as far as it will go.
The ho ld ing arm must be adjusted such that it
lies closely against the cupholder.
A max imum o f two beve rages can be pla ced in
the center armrest .
A WARNING
Spilled hot liquid can cause an accident and
personal inju ry .
- Never carry any beverage containers with
hot liquids, such as hot coffee or hot tea, in
the vehicle while it is moving . In case of an
acc ident, sudden braking or other vehicle
movement, hot liquid could spill, causing
sca ld ing burns . Spilled hot liquid can also
cause a n accident and personal in ju ry.
- U se only soft c ups in the cupholder. Hard
cups and g lasses can cause injury in an acci­
dent.
- Never use the cupholder or adapter as an ashtray -risk of fire .
CD Note
Only dr ink con tainers with lids should be car­
r ied in the cupholder. Liquid co uld sp ill out
and damage your vehicle's elec tronic equip­
ment or stain the upho lstery, etc .

When cooling, the temperature of the bev erage
holder base will go down to approximately 41
°F
(5 °C) . When warm ing , the temperatu re will be
a ppro ximately 136
°F (58 °(). At 104 °F (40 °()
the warming display will come on@. This is re ­
minder not to touch the base because it is hot .
The display goes out if the temperature falls be­ l ow this val ue.
A WARNING
- Never touch the beve rage holder base when
the warming d isplay is on. You can b urn
yourse lf!
- Do not use breakab le beve rage containers
(for examp le made out of g lass or porce­
la in). Yo u could be injured by them in case
of an accident.
CD Note
M ake sure your beverage ho lder has a lid. If
not, your beverage could spill out and cause
damage to the veh icle electronic or stain the
seat covers .

when accelerating or when applying the brakes or when driving around a corner.
- When you are driving make sure that any­
thing you may have placed in the center con­
sole or other storage locations cannot fall out into the footwells. In case of sudden
braking you would not be able to brake or
accelerate.
- Any pieces of clothing that you have hung
up must not interfere with the driver's view.
The coat hooks are designed only for light­
we ight cloth ing. Never hang any clothing
with hard, pointed or heavy objects in the
pockets on the coat hooks. During sudden
braking or in an accident -especially if the
airbag is deployed -these objects could in­
jure any passengers inside the vehicle.
Glove compartment
The glove comportment is illuminated and can
be locked.

To open glove compartment
.,. Pull the handle in the direction of the arrow

To close glove compartment
.,. Push the glove compartment lid upward until
the lock engages.
There are holders for a pen and a pad of paper in
the glove compartment lid.
On the right side in the glove compartment is a holder with the key body into which the emergen­
cy key must be clipped to be able to start the ve­
hicle.
Seats and storage
A WARNING
-To reduce the risk of personal injury in an acci-
dent or sudden stop, always keep the glove
compartment closed while driving.
Cooling box in glove compartment
The cooling box works only when the air-condi­
tioning is in cooling mode.

Warm and cold
Operation
We recommend pressing the IAUTOI button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C) .

Press the buttons to turn the functions on or off .
Use the dials to adjust the temperature, the
b lowe r speed and the air distrib ution . The LED in
a bu tton w ill light up when the funct ion is
sw itched on. The sett ings a re displayed for a few
seconds in the radio or MMI* display .
The driver and front passenger side can be ad­
jus ted separate ly. Th e settings are also d isplayed
in the clima te control system d isplay.
I O FF j Switching the climate control system
on /off
The IOFFI button swi tches the climate contro l
sys tem on or off. It also switches on when you
press the knob . Ai rf low from o utside is blocked
when the climate con trol system is switched off.
IAIC ! Switching cooling mode on /off
The air is not cooled and humidity is not removed
when cooling mode is switched off . T h is can
cause fog on the windows . The cooling mode
sw itches off au toma tic ally when there are cold
outside temperat ures.
la, I Switching recirculation mode on /off
In recirculation mode, the a ir inside the vehicle is
circu lated and filtered . This prevents the unfil­
tered a ir o utside the vehicle from e ntering the
veh icle interior . We recommend switching recir-

culation mode on when driving through a tunnel
or when sitt ing in traffic

reci rculation mode off .
I AUTO I Switching automatic mode on
Automatic mode main tains a constan t tempera­
ture inside the vehicle . Air temperature , airflow
and air distribution are controlled automatically.
Adjusting the temp erature
Temperatures between 60 ° F (+ 16 °C) and 84 ° F
( + 28 °C) can be set . O utside of th is range,
l ow or
high will appear in the radio or MMI* display . At
both of these settings, the climate control sys­
tem runs continuously at maximum cooling or
heating power. There is no temperature regula­
tion.

You can adjust the airflow manua lly to suit your
needs . To have the airflow reg ulated automati­
cally, press the
IAUTO I button.
~ Adjusting the air distribution
