REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Installation
All vehicles
1, Install the exhaust heat shield. Using
a transmission jack, wooden block
and the special tools, position and align the
front axle crossmember.

2. Install a new steering gear bulkhead floor crossmember
retaining bolts, make sure that

crossmember does not move.
3. Install the steering gear. Install the
front axle crossmember retaining
bolts on both sides.
6. Remove the special tools.
7. lnstall the front axle crossmember inner
retaining bolts on both sides.
4. N0TE:Use the front axle crossmember inner
retaining bolts to locate the special tools.

Steering Gear to Fluid Cooler Return Hose(l3 439 0)
Removal
Left-hand drive vehicles
All vehicles 4. N0TE:Note the position of the steering gear
1. Remove the front right-hand wheel and tire. to
power steering fluid cooler return hose to
aid installation.

the steering gear to power steering

cooler return hose bracket from the
steering gear.
2. Disconnect the steering gear to power
steering fluid cooler return hose quick
release coupling, from either the power
steering fluid cooler or the power steering
reservoir return hose.
1. Press the power steering fluid cooler hose
quick release coupling locking tangs.
2. Disconnect the power steering fluid cooler
hose quick release coupling.
Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable
container.
3. N0TE:Note the position of the steering gear
to power steering fluid cooler return hose to
aid installation.
Detach the steering gear to power steering
, fluid cooler return hose clips from the
crankshaft pulley splash shield.
5. Detach the steering gear to power steering
fluid cooler return hose clips from the
steering gear.

Power Steering Fluid Cooler(l3 444 0)
Removal 2. Lower the power steering fluid cooler. '-..
I. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional
information, refer to:

2. Disconnect the power steering fluid cooler
quick release couplings.
1. Press the power steering fluid cooler hose
quick release coupling locking tangs.
2. Disconnect the power steering fluid cooler
hose quick release coupling.
Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable
container.
3. Remove the radiator splash shield.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Remove the power steering fluid cooler.
I. Remove the retaining bolt.
Installation
1. N0TE:Make sure that the collar on the hose
is inserted fully into the quick release
coupling.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
2. Fill and bleed the power steering system. For
additional information, refer to: (211 -00

2. Remove and discard the tie-rod end retaining (,,
nut.
Removal
1. Remove the wheel and tire.For additional
information, refer to Section 204-00
[Suspension System
- General Information].
4. N0TE:Make a note of the number of turns
2m &AUTION:L~~~~ the tie-rod end retaining used to remove the tie-rod endrn
nut in place to protect the ball joint stud.
Remove the tie-rod end.
N0TE:Use a 5 mm Allen key to prevent the ball
joint stud from rotating.
Loosen the tie-rod end locknut and the
tie-rod end retaining nut.
1. Loosen the locknut.
2. Loosen the retaining nut.
3m &Au~l~N:~rotect the ball joint seal using
a soft cloth to prevent damage.
Using the special tool, detach the tie-rod end
from the wheel knuckle.
1. Release the tie-rod end.
Installation
I. N0TE:lnstall the tie-rod end using the same
number of turns used to remove
it.
Install the tie-rod end.

N0TE:Use a 5 mm Allen key to prevent the ball
joint stud from rotating.
Attach the tie-rod end to the wheel knuckle.
1. Tighten the retaining nut.
2. Tighten the locknut.
3. Install the wheel and tire.For additional
information, refer to Section 204-00

1. Remove the tie-rod end.
For additional information, refer to Tie-Rod

2. Remove the tie-rod end locknut.
3. N0TE:Make sure the tie-rod is clean before
removing the steering gear boot.
Remove the steering gear boot.
2. Using a suitable pair of pincers, install a new
steering gear boot inner clamp.
3. N0TE:Make sure the steering gear boot outer
clamp is located over the recess in the

I. N0TE:Lubricate the steering gear boot. Using
a suitable pair of pincers, install a new
steering gear boot outer clamp.

5. Rotate the steering gear pinion to expose
the rack.
6. CAUTIONS:
ADO not clamp the steering rack on ( ' ' exposed hydraulic sealing surfaces.
A~ake sure vise jaw protectors are used.
