SAFETY
PRETENSIONERSThe car is equipped with front seat belt pretensioners in
case of a severe frontal impact. This guarantees the per-
fect adherence of the seat belts to the occupants’ bodies
before the restraining action begins.
It is evident that the pretensioners have operated when the
belt withdraws toward the retractor.
This car is also equipped with a second pretensioner (fit-
ted in the kick plate area). Its activation is signalled by
the shortening of the metal cable.
A slight discharge of smoke may be produced during the
activation of the pretensioner which is not harmful and
does not indicate any fire hazard
.
IMPORTANT To obtain the highest degree of protection
from the action of the pretensioner, wear the seat belt tight
to the chest and pelvis.
The pretensioner does not require any maintenance or lu-
brication: any changes to its original conditions will in-
validate its efficiency. If, due to unusual natural events
(floods, sea storms, etc.), the device has been affected by
water and mud, it must be replaced.
The pretensioner may be used only once. Go
to a Lancia Dealership to have it replaced
after it has been deployed.Operations which lead to impacts, vibrations
or localised heating (over 100°C for a max-
imum of six hours) in the area around the
pretensioner may damage or deploy it. Contact a
Lancia Dealership should intervention be necessary
on these components.
LOAD LIMITERS
To increase passenger safety, the retractors contain a de-
vice which doses the force acting on the chest and shoul-
ders during the belts’ restraining action in the event of
front collisions.

SAFETY
If the belt has been subjected to a high level
of stress, for example after an accident, it
must be completely replaced together with the
attachments, attachment fixing screws and the pre-
tensioner. In fact, even if the belt has no visible de-
fects, it could have lost its resilience.
SEAT BELT MAINTENANCE
For keeping the seat belts in efficient conditions, observe
the following:
❍always make sure the belt is well stretched and never
twisted; make sure that it is free to run without ob-
structions;
❍check seat belt operation as follows: attach the seat belt
and pull it hard;
❍replace the belt after an accident of a certain severity
even if it does not appear to be damaged. Always re-
place the seat belt if the pretensioners were deployed;
❍to clean seat belts, wash by hand with water and mild
soap, rinse and leave to dry in the shade. Never use
strong detergents, bleach, paints or any other substance
which could damage the belt fibres; Each seat belt must be used by only one person. Never
travel with a child sitti
ng on the passenger’s lap using the
seat belts to protect them both, fig. 5.
Do not fasten any other object to the body.

STARTING AND DRIVING

SAVING FUELSome useful tips are given below for saving fuel and re-
ducing harmful emissions of CO
2and other pollutants (ni-
trogen oxides, unburnt hydrocarbons, Particulate Matter
(PM), etc.).
GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
Car maintenance
Have checks and adjustments carried out in accordance
with the “Scheduled Servicing Plan”.
Ty r e s
Check the pressure of the tyres routinely at an interval of
no more than 4 weeks: if the pressure is too low, con-
sumption levels increase as resistance to rolling is higher.
Unnecessary loads
Do not travel with an overloaded luggage compartment.
The weight of the car (especially when driving in town)
and its ride greatly affect consumption and stability.Accessories installed on longitudinal bars
Remove accessories like
: roof racks, ski racks, luggage con-
tainer, etc. from the roof if they are no longer used. These
accessories lower aerodynamic penetration and adverse-
ly affect consumption levels. When transporting particu-
larly large objects, use a trailer if possible.
Electric devices
Use electrical devices only for the amount of time needed.
The heated rear window, additional headlights, wind-
screen/rear window wipers and heater fan need a con-
siderable amount of energy, therefore increasing fuel con-
sumption (by up to 25% in the urban cycle).
Climate control system
Using the climate control system leads to higher fuel con-
sumption (on average up to +20%). If the temperature
outside permits, try and use the vent
ilation only.
Devices for aerodynamic control
The use of non-certified devices for aerodynamic control
may adversely affect air drag and consumption levels.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE
SCHEDULED SERVICINGCorrect servicing is essential in guaranteeing a long life for
the car under the best conditions.
This is why Lancia has planned a series of checks and
maintenance operations every 35,000 km.
It is however important to remember that scheduled ser-
vicing does not completely cover all the car’s requirements
- also in the initial period before 35,000 km service and
later, between one service and another, ordinary care is
still required such as for example routine check and top-
ping up the level of fluids, tyre pressure check, etc.
IMPORTANT Scheduled Servicing is required by the Man-
ufacturer. Failure to carry them out may invalidate thewarranty.Scheduled Services are offered by all Lancia Dealerships
according to a set time schedule.
If during each operation, in addition to the ones sched-
uled, the need arises for further replacements or repairs,
these may only be carried out with the express agreement
of the Customer.
IMPORTANT You are advised to contact a Lancia Deal-
ership in the event of any minor operating faults, with-
out waiting for the next service.
If the car is used frequently for towing a trailer, the in-
terval between services should be reduced.
