s quared (m/s2) (-1.64 feet per s econd squared (ft/s2)); and +0.5 m/s2 (+1.64 ft/s2) res pect ively.
To provide a s afe t rans it ion from acti ve braking t o brakes off, the ABS module i nvokes a fade out st rat egy that graduall yrel eas es t he braking effort during act ive braking. The fade out s t rat egy occurs i f any of t he fol lowi ng condit ions i s detectedduri ng act ive braki ng:
HDC i s s elected off us i ng the HDC s wit ch.Failure of a component us ed by HDC, but not crit ical t o fade out funct ion.Accelerator pedal pres s ed when t rans mis s ion i s i n neut ral .Brakes overheat .
If fade out is i nvoked becaus e of HDC de-s el ect ion or component failure, the HDC functi on is cancel led by t he ABS module.If fade out is i nvoked becaus e t he accelerator pedal i s pres s ed wit h t he t ransmis s ion i n neut ral , or because of brakeoverheat , t he HDC funct ion remains in s tandby and res umes operati on when t he accelerat or pedal is releas ed or the brakeshave cooled.
The fade out s t rategy i ncreas es t he t arget speed at a cons tant accelerati on rat e of 0.5 m/s2 (1.64 ft/s2), unti l themaximum t arget speed i s reached, or unti l no act ive braki ng is required for 0.5 second. If t he accelerat or pedal is
posi ti oned wit hin t he range t hat infl uences t arget s peed, the accelerat ion rate is increas ed t o 1.0 m/s2 (3.3 ft /s2).
W hen fade out is i nvoked becaus e of component fai lure, a warning chime is sounded and the HDC informat ion i ndi cat orlamp is ext inguis hed. The HDC warning i ndicat or lamp is t hen il lumi nat ed (on low-li ne ins trument cl ust er), or a mes s ageadvi s ing of t he fault i s dis played in the mess age cent er (on hi gh-l ine i ns t rument clus ter).

To monit or for brake overheat, t he ABS modul e monit ors t he amount of braking acti vi ty and, from thi s, es ti mat es thet emperature of each brake. If the es t imat ed temperature of any brake exceeds a pres et li mit , t he ABS module i nvokes t hefade out s t rategy. Aft er the fade out cycle, t he HDC funct ion i s re-enabl ed when the ABS modul e es ti mates that all of thebrake t emperatures are at l ess than 64% of the preset t emperat ure l imi t.
Roll Stability Control
The RSC funct ion us es the brakes and the engine t o at tempt t o rest ore vehicle s tabilit y, i f the vehicle is forced i nt o ahars h maneuver t hat ri sks i t ti pping over.
The ABS module monit ors dri ver i nput s and vehicle behavior usi ng various powert rai n s ignals and t he i nput s from thewheel s peed s ens ors, t he s teering angle s ens or, the roll rate sens or, yaw rate and lateral accel erat ion s ensors. Thes einputs are compared wit h modeled behavi or and, if t he vehicle behavior reaches a given ris k level, t he ABS module cut st he engi ne power, or brakes one or more wheels suffi ci ent ly to al low the vehicle to regain s t abi li ty and hel p the driverremai n i n cont rol .
W hi le t he i gni ti on is energi zed, RSC i s permanentl y enabl ed even if t he DSC functi on is sel ect ed off.
Terrain Response™ System Integration
The Terrai n Res pons e™ funct ion integrat es t he ABS and other vehicle s ys tem cont rol modules t o as si s t the vehicle whendri vi ng off-road or during di fficult s urface condit ions . Terrai n Respons e is act ivated when the rotary cont rol s wit ch is s et t oa Terrain Res ponse special program.
W hen a Terrai n Respons e s peci al program i s acti vat ed, t he ABS module along wi th ot her vehicle s ys t em control modul eswil l operate in accordance wi th programmed software maps . The s peed control swit ches are res is t ive l adder type. The s ignals from the res is ti ve ladder are fed t o the st eeri ng col umnmodule (located in t he clocks pri ng) which t hen out put s t he s ignals as a local i nterconnect net work (LIN) bus s ignal to thecent ral junct ion box (CJB). The CJB trans mi ts speed cont rol s ignals on the hi gh s peed controll er area network (CAN) bus t ot he engi ne cont rol module (ECM).

The t ransmis s ion cable as s embly i s a one-pi ece, push/pul l cable connect ed between the t rans mis s ion and the s electorlever.
The s elect or lever end of the cable has an adjus t abl e eye end which l ocat es on a ball pi n on t he s el ect or lever. Anabut ment on t he cabl e outer s heat h l ocat es in an aperture at the front of t he s el ector lever shi ft housi ng.
A fireproof grommet s eal is pos it ioned approxi mat el y half way al ong the l engt h of t he cable and s eal s the cable through ahole i n t he bulkhead.
The t ransmis s ion end of t he cabl e als o has an eye end whi ch locat es on a bal l pi n on t he end of the trans mi ss i on leverarm. An abut ment on t he out er s heat h locates i n a bracket att ached to t he t op of the trans mi ss i on.
Linear movement of t he s el ect or lever is t rans ferred, via t he inner cabl e, into movement of t he t ransmis s ion l ever arm. Thelever arm convert s t he li near movement of the s elect or cable i nto rot ary movement of the manual s haft in thet ransmis s ion.
Cable Setting Proced ure
The correct cabl e adjus tment i s achi eved by use of a yel low but ton in t he s elector lever arm eye end. The s et ti ng proces sis to ens ure that t he trans mi s si on is in Park (P) and t he s elector lever is i n i ts det ent e park pos i ti on. This can be checkedby s electi ng the Park (P) pos it ion and wi th the park brake released, rocking t he vehicle forward and back to ens ure that thet ransmis s ion parki ng pawl i s engaged.
Once the cable is i n t he correct posi ti on, t he yell ow s ett ing but ton can be engaged wit h t he s errat ed port ion of t he cabl e.Acces s t o t he set ti ng butt on is through t he apert ure i n t he upper face of t he s hift hous ing.
The cabl e s houl d be reset whenever any part of t he t ransmis s ion s hift s ys t em has been dis t urbed or replaced, i ncl udi ngt he trans mi s si on, operat ing arms , abut ment bracket s cabl es or s el ect or lever as s embly.

Installation
1. NOTE: The cl utch cover i s s elf adjus ti ng. It i srecommended t hat a cl utch di sc and cl ut ch cover isrepl aced as an as s embly. If a us ed cl utch cover i sas sembl ed wit h a new clutch di sc, t he clutch coveradjus tment must be res et prior t o as sembl y. W it h t heclut ch cover support ed under i ts out s ide edge, pressdown evenl y on t he diaphragm fi ngers as s hown, unt ilt he clutch cover adjus t ment ri ng can be rot ated full ycount erclockwis e. W it h t he adjus tment ring hel d in thi spos it ion, releas e t he pres s ure on t he diaphragmfingers . The adjus tment ring wi ll be held in t hispos it ion unti l sel f adjust ment on t he appl icati on of theclut ch pedal.
Check, and i f necess ary, reset t he clut ch press ureplat e.

Once the cable is i n t he correct posi ti on, t he yell ow adjus tment but ton can be pressed back int o t he 'locked' pos it ion t oengage wit h the serrat ed port ion of t he cable. Ens ure t hat the s elect or l ever i s not moved before t he butt on i s pres s ed.
Check t he cable for the correct s et ti ng by s el ect ing 3rd gear and checki ng t hat t he l at eral movement of the s elector l everfeel s s ymmetrical.
The cabl e s houl d be reset whenever any part of t he t ransmis s ion s elector as sembl y has been dis turbed or replaced,including the t rans mis s ion, cabl es or sel ect or lever as s embly.

Us ing t hese inputs t he ECM us es an al gorit hm t o moni tor t he driver’s t orque and performance demand in the current geart o est abli sh if t he s ame t orque and performance coul d be achi eved in t he next hi ghest gear to improve fuel effi ci ency,wit hout introduci ng engi ne labori ng.

The CJB act s as a gat eway and t ransmit s t he wheels peed si gnal t o t he ins trument cl ust er over t he medium s peed CAN bus .

The t rip dat a i s s tored in the i nst rument clus t er Random Acces s Memory (RAM) and will be los t if t he batt ery i sdis connected.
Average Fuel Consumption
The ins t rument clus ter receives 2 fuel t ank level readings on t he medium s peed CAN bus vi a t he CJB. The i nst rumentclus ter calcul ates an average value of t he amount of usable fuel in the t ank from t he 2 s i gnal s. Every 200 meters ofvehi cl e t ravel the i nst rument clus t er re-calculat es this val ue to det ermine how much fuel has been us ed. Thi s value i s thenaveraged over t he las t 31 mi les (50 kil ometers ) of t ravel and di s pl ayed in t he t ri p comput er.
The dis t ance t raveled s ignal ori gi nates i n t he ABS module and i s received by t he inst rument clus ter over t he medi ums peed CAN bus via t he CJB.
Range
The range value i s calculated us i ng the average fuel cons umpt ion val ue (s ee above) and t he fuel t ank level val ue. Bydividi ng the fuel tank l evel val ue by t he average fuel cons umpti on value t he ins t rument clus ter can cal cul at e t he dis t ancet he vehi cl e can travel wi th the current amount of us abl e fuel i n t he tank before refil li ng is necess ary.
Average Speed
The average s peed s i gnal is cal cul at ed us ing t he vehi cle s peed s ignal s uppli ed by the CJB over the medium speed CANbus. This si gnal originat es in t he ABS module and is an average of t he 4 wheel s peed si gnal s. This val ue is di vided by t het ime si nce the l ast t ri p computer res et t o cal cul ate the average vehicle s peed.
ODOMETER
The odometer is locat ed i n the speedometer and dis plays t he tot al di s tance the vehicl e has travel ed. This is calculat edus ing t he s ame s ignal as that us ed for t he trip meter.
The odometer dis play can s how 6 characters and dis t ances up t o 999,999 mi les or kil ometers . The value i s s tored in aprot ect ed area of t he ins t rument clus ters Electroni cal ly Eras able Programmabl e Read Only Memory (EEPROM) every 1.2mi les (2 kil ometers ) of vehicle t ravel. W hen the i gnit ion i s s wit ched off, back up odomet er val ues are al so s tored in t hefol lowing modul es:

If any value i s outs ide of a 186 mil e (300 ki lometer) wi ndow the i nst rument clus t ers tores a Diagnos ti c Trouble Code (DTC) and wil l di spl ay the majori ty val ue. The DTC can be ret rieved us ing t he Land Roverapproved diagnos t ic s yst em.
