Electric tailgate*4-22 Locking and unlocking
4
After the electric tailgate is opened automati-cally, if it is detected that the tailgate is drop-ping due to factors such as accumulatedsnow, the electric tailgate is closed automati-cally.A warning buzzer sounds continuously whilethe drop prevention mechanism operates. If the engine is started while the electric tail-gate is operating automatically, it may switchto manual operation due to insufficient bat-tery voltage, making the electric tailgate stopintermittently while it moves. This is to stop
the electric tailgate from operating suddenly. When the tailgate is completely closed oropened, automatic operation is again possibleafter approximately 10 seconds.
E00313400015
If the electric tailgate power switch is off, theelectric tailgate can be operated by manualoperation. After unlocking the electric tailgate, push thetailgate open switch (A) and pull up the tail-gate.
zThe safety mechanism is cancelled justbefore the electric tailgate is fully closed toallow it to close co
mpletely. Therefore be
especially careful not to trap a hand or fingerat this time. zThe safety mechanism is deactivated whenthe electric tailgate is closed manually. Therefore be especially careful not to trap ahand or finger at this time. zIf the safety mechanism is repeatedly oper-ated, the tailgate could be switched to man-ual operation. Be careful at this time, as theelectric tailgate coul
d open or close sud-
denly, dependi
ng on its position.
Once the electric tailgate is completely openor closed, normal automatic operation isagain possible.NOTE
zIf the environment or usage conditions sub-ject the sensors to the same kind of force asthat of trapping a person or object, the safetymechanism could be activated. zDo not damage the se
nsors when loading or
unloading luggage, or when cleaning the rearwindow. Doing so could prevent the tailgatefrom closing automatically.CAUTION
Drop prevention mechanism
NOTE
zIf snow has accumulated on the electric tail-gate, remove it before operation. zDo not install accessories other thanMITSUBISHI MOTORS GENUINE partson the electric tailgate. Some accessoriescould be too heavy, causing the drop preven-tion mechanism to operate. zThe drop prevention mechanism could beactivated if manual operation is attemptedimmediately after the electric tailgate iscompletely opened automatically.
Sudden operation prevention mechanism
CAUTION zThe safety mechanism is deactivated whilethe sudden operation prevention mechanismis operating. Therefore be especially carefulnot to trap a hand or finger at this time.

(The buzzer sounds intermittently and thesecurity indicator (A) blinks.)
The system preparation time extends from thepoint at which all of the doors and the tailgateare locked by pressing of the LOCK switchon the remote control switch or the keylessoperation function to the point at which thesystem armed mode goes into effect.During this time, it is possible to temporarilyopen a door or the tailgate without using thekeyless entry system or the keyless operationfunction and without causing the alarm tosound (for example, when you forget some-thing inside the vehicle or realize that a win-dow is open).(The buzzer stops and the security indicatorcontinues to blink with the indicator’sreduced lit-up duration time.)Once the system preparation mode has ended, the system armed mode starts.
zIf the turn-signal lamps do not blink after thelocking and unlocking operation using thekeyless entry system or
the keyless operation
function, the security alarm system may bemalfunctioning.Have the vehicle inspected at aMITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorised ServicePoint. If the confirmation function (blinking of theturn-signal lamps by
locking and unlocking
the doors and the tailgate) is deactivated, theturn-signal lamps do not blink after the lock-ing and unloc
king operation.
For information on the confirmation func-tion, refer to “Keyless entry system” onpages 4-3 and “To opera
te using the keyless
operation function”
on page 4-9.
zThe security alarm system could be activatedin the following situations.•Using a car washer•Taking the vehicle on a ferry•Parking in an automated car park•Leaving someone or a pet in the vehicle•Leaving a window or the sunroof open• Leaving an unstable object such as a stuffedtoy or accessory in the vehicle• Suffering a continuous impact or vibrationby hail, thunder, etc.NOTE
• Air flows by the Remote Climate Control.According to the situations, please deacti-vate the vehicle inclination detection func-tion and the interior intrusion detectionfunction.Refer to “To deactivate the vehicle inclina-tion detection function and the interiorintrusion detection f
unction” on page 4-27.
zThe sensitivity of the interior intrusiondetection function can be adjusted. For fur-ther details, please contact a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.
The security alarm has four modes:

WA R N I N G zIf the battery terminals are disconnectedor the fuse for electric window is replaced, the safety mechanism will be cancelled. If a hand or head got trapped, a seriousinjury could result.CAUTION zThe safety mechanism is cancelled justbefore the window is
fully closed. This
allows the window to close completely. Therefore be especially
careful that no fin-

zThe safety mechanism is deactivated whilethe switch is pulled up. Therefore be espe-cially careful that fingers are not trapped inthe door window opening.NOTE
zThe safety mechanism can be activated if thedriving conditions or
other circumstances
cause the driver’s door window to be sub-jected to a physical shock similar to thatcaused by a trapped hand or head. zIf the battery terminals are disconnected orthe fuse for electric window is replaced, thesafety mechanism will be cancelled and thedoor window will not automaticallyopen/close completely. If the window is open, repeatedly raise thedriver’s door window switch until the win-dow has been fully closed. The SRS includes the following components:
Only when the operation mode of the powerswitch is in ON, the airbags will operate. The airbags deployment produces a sudden, loud noise, and releases some smoke andpowder, but these conditions are not injuri-ous, and do not indicate a fire in the vehicle.People with respiratory problems may feelsome temporary irritation from chemicalsused to produce the deployment; open thewindows after airbag deployment, if safe todo so.The airbags deflate very rapidly after deploy-ment, so there is little danger of obscuredvision.

5- Curtain airbag modules
CAUTION zAirbags inflate at an extremely rapid speed. In certain situations, contact with inflatingairbags can result in abrasions, bruises, lightcuts, and the like.
WA R N I N G zIT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BE PROP-ERLY SEATED.A driver or front passenger too close tothe steering wheel or instrument panelduring airbag deployment can be killed orseriously injured.Airbags inflate very
fast, and with great
force. If the driver and front passenger are notproperly seated and restrained, the air-bags may not protect you properly, andcould cause serious or fatal injuries whenit inflates.WA R N I N G zDo not sit on the edge
of the seat, or sit
with your lower legs too close to theinstrument panel, or lean head or chestclose to the steering wheel or instrumentpanel. Do not put feet or legs on or againstthe instrument panel. zPlace all infants and small children in therear seat and properly restrained using anappropriate child restraint system. The rear seat is the safest for infants andchildren.
