OVERVIEW
The AW F21 t rans mis s ion us es an external flui d cool er t o reduce t he t emperature of the trans mi s si on fl uid.
In s tandard cli mat e market s a plat e t ype cooler i s us ed and uses engine coolant t o reduce the fl ui d t emperature.
In hot cl imat e market s , an air blas t cool er is us ed in addi ti on to the pl ate t ype cool er us ed on s t andard climate vehicles .This provi des addit ional cool ing for the hi gher ambient t emperatures experienced i n t hes e countries .

4-Engine coolant out let5-Trans mi ss ion cooler
The t ransmis s ion fluid cooler i s att ached t o t he Left Hand (LH) end of the radi ator. The fl ui d cool er is an al uminum hous ingcompris i ng louvred fins and pl at es . The pl ates al low a cross -fl ow of t ransmis s ion fluid and engi ne cool ant t hrough t hecool er. The plat es are i mmersed in engine coolant from the 'col d' s ide of t he radi ator which provi des cooli ng of thet ransmis s ion fluid by the temperat ure di fferenti al bet ween the trans mi ss i on fl uid and t he engine cool ant.
The engi ne cool ing s ys tem has a low temperature zone in t he t op thi rd of t he radi at or. The engine coolant fl ow t hrought hi s s ect ion of t he radi at or is res tricted by the t rans mi ss ion fl ui d cool er. Therefore t he engi ne cool ant has a s lower fl owrat e acros s t he cool ing t ubes of t his s ecti on of the radiator. Thi s cool s t he engi ne cool ant more t han the lower part of theradi at or and cons equent ly provi des increased cooli ng of the t rans mi ss i on fl ui d.
Fluid is s upplied from t he t ransmis s ion fluid pump int o t he lower connecti on of the cooler. Aft er pas s ing t hrough thecool er, t he fl uid pas ses out of t he upper connecti on and is ret urned t o transmis s ion fluid pan.

6-Trans mi ss ion ai r blas t cool er
In hot cl imat e market s , the t rans mi ss ion fl ui d cool ing s ys tem uses the s ame cooler as t he s tandard cli mat e s ys t em, butwit h an addit ional air blas t cool er locat ed i n front the radiator and t he Air Conditioning (A/C) condens er.
The operati on of the flui d cool er is as des cribed for the s t andard climate cooler. The ai r blas t cooler compri s es 2 endt anks , int erconnected wi th hol low pl ates . The plat es al low trans mi s si on fl uid t o flow from one end t ank to the ot her, wi tht he air fl owing over the pl ates cooling the flui d as it pas s es through t he cooler.
The t ransmis s ion fluid out put from t he t rans mis s ion pump is s pli t bet ween t he s tandard cli mate cool er and t he air bl as tcool er. Some of t he transmis s ion fluid from t he t ransmis s ion pump i s divert ed i nt o the air bl as t cooler. The flui d fl owst hrough plates i n t he cool er and the ai r flow over t he plat es removes t he heat from t he fl ui d. The fl ui d i s then di rectedback to a tee connect ion wi th the flui d pipe t o t he s tandard cl imat e cool er and is then ret urned t o t he transmis s ion.
