If the lever is set to the locked position, therear door cannot be opened using the insidehandle, but only with the outside handle.If the lever is set to the “Unlock” position, thechild protection mechanism does not func-tion.

The tailgate can be locked or unlocked byusing the central door lock switch (driverside).
After unlocking the tailgate, push the tailgateopen switch (A) and pull up the tailgate.Pull the tailgate grip (B) downward as illus-trated. Gently slam the tailgate from the out-side so that it is completely closed. Alwaysensure the tailgate is securely closed.

protection to prevent
accidental door opening which may cause anaccident.

The electric tailgate can be operated using theremote control switch on the keyless opera-tion key, or the close switch on the tailgatewhen the electric tailgate power switch (A) ison.
CAUTION zWhen closing the electric tailgate, make surethere is no foreign matter around the striker(A).If foreign matter gets into the striker it couldprevent the electric tailgate from closing nor-mally.NOTE
zWhen opening and closing the electric tail-gate, do not place your hands near the arm(B). zGas struts (C) are installed in the locationsshown below in order to support the electrictailgate. zMake sure not to bump your head in the areanear the arm of the
electric tailgate when
loading and unloading luggage.

zPlease observe the following in order to pre-vent damage or faulty operation.•Do not pull on the gas struts when closingthe electric tailgate or otherwise push orpull them.•Do not attach any plastic material, tape,etc., to the gas struts.•Do not tie string, etc., around the gas struts.•Do not hang anything fr

zDo not start the engine while the tailgate isoperating. The sudden operation preventionmechanism could operate, making the elec-tric tailgate stop intermittently while itmoves.NOTE
zThe electric tailgate cannot be opened whenthe battery is flat or disconnected.If you want to open the electric tailgate, itcan be opened by using the inside tailgaterelease.Refer to “Inside tailgate release” on page4-24. zIf the keyless entry system or close switch isoperated when the electric tailgate powerswitch is off, the warning buzzer sounds 4times to notify the driver that the electrictailgate cannot be operated. zThe electric tailgate does not operate nor-mally under the following conditions:•When parked on an incline•In strong winds•When the electric tailgate is covered withsnow
zRepeated continuous operation betweenopening and closing the electric tailgate willactivate the built-in protection circuit andswitch the tailgate to manual operation.CAUTION
zIf the electric tailgate handle is operatedwhile the tailgate is operating or immedi-ately after it is closed, the tailgate will movein the direction opposite to the one in whichit was operating. zIf the battery or fuse is replaced while theelectric tailgate is open, it cannot be closedautomatically.In this case close the electric tailgate manu-ally.

After unlocking the doors and the electrictailgate, the electric tailgate can be operatedby pressing the switch (A) of the keylessoperation key or the driver’s side electric tail-gate switch (B).
If the electric tailgate switch is pressed oncewhile the tailgate is operating, the warningbuzzer sounds once and it moves in the direc-tion opposite to the one in which it was oper-ating.
If the driver’s side electric tailgate switch ispressed once while the tailgate is operating,the warning buzzer sounds once and it movesin the direction opposite to the one in which itwas operating.The electric tailgate can be opened by press-ing the open switch (C).
Operating the electric tailgate using the keyless operation key or the driver’s side electric tailgate switch
•Whileclosed:
The warning buzzer sounds 4times and the tailgate completelyopens.
•Whileopen:
The warning buzzer sounds 3times and the tailgate completelycloses.
NOTE
zIf the electric tailgate switch is pressed 3 ormore times in a row, the tailgate may notoperate normally.If this occurs, wait a short time before againpressing the electric tailgate switch twice.
•Whileclosed:
The warning buzzer sounds 4times and the tailgate completelyopens.
•Whileopen:
The warning buzzer sounds 3times and the tailgate completelycloses.
WA R N I N G zWhen operating the electric tailgate,ensure the safety of the surrounding area,make sure there is sufficient space behindand above the vehicle, and be careful notto bump your head or catch your hands orfingers.

If the open switch is pressed with the tailgateand all doors are unlocked, the electric tail-gate opens after the warning buzzer sounds 4times and the hazard warning flasher brinks 2times.When the tailgate and all doors are locked,the warning buzzer will not sound.
The electric tailgate can be closed by pressingthe close switch (D) on the inside of the elec-tric tailgate.If the close switch on the inside of the electrictailgate is pressed, the electric tailgate closesafter the warning buzzer sounds 3 times andthe hazard warning flasher brinks 2 times.If the close switch is pressed once while thetailgate is closing, the warning buzzer soundsonce and the electric tailgate opens.

The safety mechanism is activated if the elec-tric tailgate should trap a person or an objectduring automatic operation, or if the sensors(A) on either side of the electric tailgate arehit. The warning buzzer sounds once forsafety and the electric tailgate automaticallymoves in the direction opposite to the one inwhich it was operating.
NOTE
zWhen you are carrying the keyless operationkey with the tailgate is locked, the electrictailgate can be opene
d by pressing the open
switch even if the tailgate is locked.The factory setting of the function is “Inac-tive”.To m o d i f y t h e s e t t i n g t o “ A c t i v e ” , p l e a s econtact an authorised MITSUBISHIMOTORS dealer.
Closing the electric tailgate using the close switch
NOTE
zIf the close switch is again pressed oncewhile the electric tailgate is operating in theopening direction,

Safety mechanism
CAUTION zThe safety mechanism will sometimes notoperate depending on the condition of thetrapped object or how it
is trapped. There-
fore, be especially careful not to trap a hand,part of your body or an object at this time.

After the electric tailgate is opened automati-cally, if it is detected that the tailgate is drop-ping due to factors such as accumulatedsnow, the electric tailgate is closed automati-cally.A warning buzzer sounds continuously whilethe drop prevention mechanism operates.If the engine is started while the electric tail-gate is operating automatically, it may switchto manual operation due to insufficient bat-tery voltage, making the electric tailgate stopintermittently while it moves. This is to stop
the electric tailgate from operating suddenly.When the tailgate is completely closed oropened, automatic operation is again possibleafter approximately 10 seconds.

unloading luggage, or when cleaning the rearwindow. Doing so could prevent the tailgatefrom closing automatically.CAUTION
Drop prevention mechanism
NOTE
zIf snow has accumulated on the electric tail-gate, remove it before operation. zDo not install accessories other thanMITSUBISHI MOTORS GENUINE partson the electric tailgate. Some accessoriescould be too heavy, causing the drop preven-tion mechanism to operate. zThe drop prevention mechanism could beactivated if manual operation is attemptedimmediately after the electric tailgate iscompletely opened automatically.

CAUTION zThe safety mechanism is deactivated whilethe sudden operation prevention mechanismis operating. Therefore be especially carefulnot to trap a hand or finger at this time.

The tailgate easy closer is a mechanism forassisting the closing of the electric tailgate.If the electric tailgate is closed to a positionwhere it is detected as being ajar, it closesautomatically.
CAUTION zMake sure there is no one around the electrictailgate when opening it.NOTE
zIf it does nor open immediately after pushingthe tailgate open switch, the electric tailgatecannot be lifted.If this occurs, push the tailgate open switchagain and pull up the electric tailgate. zThe electric tailgate cannot be opened whenthe battery is flat or disconnected.
CAUTION zDo not fully close the electric tailgate withyour hand still on the tailgate grip. Doing socould trap and injure your hand or arm. zThe safety mechanism is deactivated whenthe electric tailgate is closed manually.Therefore be especially careful not to trap ahand or finger at this time.

catch your fingers.

zThe tailgate easy closer operates even whenthe electric tailgate power switch is OFF. zRepeated continuous operation of the handlecould activate the prot

porarily prevent the tailgate easy closer fromoperating.If this occurs, wait about 1 minute beforeoperating the tailgate easy closer again.

The inside tailgate release is designed to pro-vide a way to open the tailgate in the case of adischarged battery.The tailgate release (see illustration) ismounted on the tailgate.Yo u a n d y o u r f a m i l y s h o u l d f a m i l i a r i s e y o u r -selves with the location and operation of thetailgate release.
1. Open the lid (A) inside of the tailgate.2. Move the lever (B) to open the tailgate.3. Push out on the tailgate to open it.

The security alarm system is for alerting thesurrounding area of suspicious behaviour toprevent unlawful entry into the vehicle byoperating an alarm if a door, the tailgate orthe bonnet is opened when the vehicle has notbeen unlocked using the keyless entry systemor the keyless operation function.

(The buzzer sounds intermittently and thesecurity indicator (A) blinks.)
The system preparation time extends from thepoint at which all of the doors and the tailgateare locked by pressing of the LOCK switchon the remote control switch or the keylessoperation function to the point at which thesystem armed mode goes into effect.During this time, it is possible to temporarilyopen a door or the tailgate without using thekeyless entry system or the keyless operationfunction and without causing the alarm tosound (for example, when you forget some-thing inside the vehicle or realize that a win-dow is open).(The buzzer stops and the security indicatorcontinues to blink with the indicator’sreduced lit-up duration time.)Once the system preparation mode has ended,the system armed mode starts.
zIf the turn-signal lamps do not blink after thelocking and unlocking operation using thekeyless entry system or
the keyless operation
function, the security alarm system may bemalfunctioning.Have the vehicle inspected at aMITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorised ServicePoint.If the confirmation function (blinking of theturn-signal lamps by
locking and unlocking
the doors and the tailgate) is deactivated, theturn-signal lamps do not blink after the lock-ing and unloc
king operation.

te using the keyless
operation function”
on page 4-9.
zThe security alarm system could be activatedin the following situations.•Using a car washer•Taking the vehicle on a ferry•Parking in an automated car park•Leaving someone or a pet in the vehicle•Leaving a window or the sunroof open• Leaving an unstable object such as a stuffedtoy or accessory in the vehicle• Suffering a continuous impact or vibrationby hail, thunder, etc.NOTE
• Air flows by the Remote Climate Control.According to the situations, please deacti-vate the vehicle inclination detection func-tion and the interior intrusion detectionfunction.Refer to “To deactivate the vehicle inclina-tion detection function and the interiorintrusion detection f
unction” on page 4-27.
zThe sensitivity of the interior intrusiondetection function can be adjusted. For fur-ther details, please contact a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.
