If the lever is set to the locked position, therear door cannot be opened using the insidehandle, but only with the outside handle.If the lever is set to the “Unlock” position, thechild protection mechanism does not func-tion.

The tailgate can be locked or unlocked byusing the central door lock switch (driverside).
After unlocking the tailgate, push the tailgateopen switch (A) and pull up the tailgate.Pull the tailgate grip (B) downward as illus-trated. Gently slam the tailgate from the out-side so that it is completely closed. Alwaysensure the tailgate is securely closed.
CAUTION zWhen driving with a child in the rear seat,please use the child
protection to prevent
accidental door opening which may cause anaccident.

Before operating the electric tailgate, unlockthe tailgate by using the keyless entry system,keyless operation function, or the central doorlocks.Refer to “Keyless entry system” on page 4-3,“Keyless operation system” on page 4-6, or“Central door locks” on page 4-15.

zBefore driving, make sure the electric tail-gate is securely closed.If you drive with the
tailgate open, there is
a danger of exhaust gas entering the vehi-cle and causing carbon monoxide poison-ing. zFor safety’s sake, the electric tailgateshould be operated by adults and not chil-dren. zWhen opening and closing the tailgate,make sure that there are no people nearbyand be careful not to hit your head orpinch your hands, neck, etc.Make sure the electric tailgate is com-pletely open before loading and unloadingluggage.CAUTION zDo not stand behind th
e exhaust pipe when
loading and unl
oading luggage.
The heat from the exhaust could cause burns. zBefore driving, make sure the electric tail-gate is closed properly. If the tailgate openswhen driving, luggage could fall onto theroad and cause an accident. zDo not install accessories other thanMITSUBISHI MOTORS GENUINE partson the electric tailgate. The electric tailgate can be operated using theremote control switch on the keyless opera-tion key, or the close switch on the tailgatewhen the electric tailgate power switch (A) ison.
CAUTION zWhen closing the electric tailgate, make surethere is no foreign matter around the striker(A).If foreign matter gets into the striker it couldprevent the electric tailgate from closing nor-mally.NOTE
zWhen opening and closing the electric tail-gate, do not place your hands near the arm(B). zGas struts (C) are installed in the locationsshown below in order to support the electrictailgate. zMake sure not to bump your head in the areanear the arm of the
electric tailgate when
loading and unloading luggage.
NOTE
zPlease observe the following in order to pre-vent damage or faulty operation.•Do not pull on the gas struts when closingthe electric tailgate or otherwise push orpull them.•Do not attach any plastic material, tape,etc., to the gas struts.•Do not tie string, etc., around the gas struts.•Do not hang anything fr
om the gas struts.

ly, depending on its
position.CAUTION zDo not apply excessive force on the electrictailgate when opening or closing it. Doing socould cause a breakdown.
