If there is no place to attach the hook,
use a separate cable and make a place to attach it. Do not attach the hook to the winch cable; doing so could cause the cable to break .
When using the
winch, try to position the vehicle so that the winch cable is in
a straight line with the direction of the
vehicle . If the winch is used when the
cable forms an excessive angle with the
vehicle, not only might the shear pin be
broken or the cable become tangled and worn prematurely, but the vehicle itself will be unbalanced, which could be
dangerous . The direction of the cable
can be kept in a straight line with the
vehicle by using a pulley as shown.

move the lever to the "OFF" position,

Winding the winch EJ04C·G
Attach the hook securely to the object to be pulled, or to a tree or other firmly planted object if the vehicle itself is to be
pulled .
Set the
winch clutch lever to the "ON" position.
NOTE
If the
winch clutch lever does not fit into the "ON" position, move the lever while pulling on the cable in order to turn the drum.

Set the transfer shift lever to the "N" (neutral) position.
Loosen the
lock screw securing the winch shift lever, and move the lock plate to the left.
Depress the accelerator pedal
or pull out the idle control knob to adjust the winch winding speed.

Winding up the cable tJ04D·A
Either attach the hook to a tree or other firmly planted object. or have someone hold it. Wind up the cable by following the same
procedure as that given in the "Winding
the winch" section .
NOTE
If the length of cable to be wound is long , stop several times during the winding process and confirm that there
are no gaps in the cable as it is wound around the drum . If there are any gaps,
the cable will not be wound properly.

& CAUTION In order to wind up the cable, ap­ply some tension to the cable by pulling on it within the angle shown in the figure, otherwise the cable will be wound in between the previous winds and may hurt the cable or unwinding may be­come difficult. Do not allow the winding speed to increase excessively. If a person is holding the hook, wind up the ca­ble with special care to avoid ac­cidents.

After winding up the cable, set the hook and the stopper on the cable guide, tighten the stopper nut, and then replace
the pin.
Set the
winch clutch lever to the "OFF" position.
& CAUTION Whenever the winch is not in use. be sure that the winch shift lever is kept locked in the "OFF" posi­tion.

distyskappale vaijeriin, taipunut koukku.

Even if the winch has not been used, the cable should be pulled out and the winch operated at least once a month.
INSPECTION OF THE CABLE AND HOOK
Check both the cable and the hook, and
replace under any of the following cir ­
