“HO2S2 (B1)” as the monitor item with CONSULT-II.
4. Check “HO2S2 (B1)” at idle speed when adjusting “FUEL INJECTION” to±25%.
“HO2S2 (B1)” should be above 0.68V at least once when the “FUEL INJECTION” is +25%.
“HO2S2 (B1)” should be below 0.50V at least once when the “FUEL INJECTION” is-25%.
CAUTION:
Discard any heated oxygen sensor which has been dropped from a height of more than 0.5 m (19.7
in) onto a hard surface such as a concrete floor; use a new one.
Without CONSULT-II
1. Start engine and drive vehicle at a speed of more than 70 km/h (43 MPH) for 2 consecutive minutes.
2. Stop vehicle with engine running.
3. Set voltmeter probes between ECM terminal 95 [HO2S2 (B1) signal] and engine ground.
4. Check the voltage when revving up to 4,000 rpm under no load
at least 10 times.
(Depress and release accelerator pedal as soon as possible.)
The voltage should be above 0.68V at least once during this
procedure.
If the voltage is above 0.68V at step 4, step 5 is not neces-
sary.
5. Keep vehicle idling for 10 minutes, then check voltage. Or check
the voltage when coasting from 80 km/h (50 MPH) in “D” posi-
tion with “OD” OFF (A/T), 3rd gear position (M/T).
The voltage should be below 0.50V at least once during this
procedure.
6. If NG, replace heated oxygen sensor 2.
CAUTION:
Discard any heated oxygen sensor which has been dropped from a height of more than 0.5 m (19.7 in)
onto a hard surface such as a concrete floor; use a new one.

With CONSULT-II
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Select “MANU TRIG” and adjust “TRIGGER POINT” to 100% in “DATA MONITOR” mode with CONSULT-
II.
3. Select “HO2S1 (B1)” and “HO2S1 MNTR (B1)”.
4. Hold engine speed at 2,000 rpm under no load during the follow-
ing steps.
5. Touch “RECORD” on CONSULT-II screen.
6. Check the following.
l“HO2S1 MNTR (B1)” in “DATA MONITOR” mode changes
from “RICH” to “LEAN” to “RICH” 5 times in 10 seconds.
5 times (cycles) are counted as shown at right.
l“HO2S1 (B1)” voltage goes above 0.6V at least once.
l“HO2S1 (B1)” voltage goes below 0.3V at least once.
l“HO2S1 (B1)” voltage never exceeds 1.0V.
CAUTION:
Discard any heated oxygen sensor which has been dropped from a height of more than 0.5 m (19.7
in) onto a hard surface such as a concrete floor; use a new one.
Without CONSULT-II
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.

Check continuity between glow relay terminals 3 and 5 under the fol-
lowing conditions.
Operation takes less than 1 second.
GLOW PLUG
1. Remove glow plug connecting plate.
2. Check glow plug resistance.
NOTE:
lDo not bump glow plug heating element. If it is bumped,
replace glow plug with a new one.
lIf glow plug is dropped from a height of 10 cm (3.94 in) or
higher, replace with a new one.
lIf glow plug installation hole is contaminated with car-
bon, remove it with a reamer or suitable tool.
lHand-tighten glow plug by turning it two or three times,
then tighten using a tool to specified torque.

1. Remove heated oxygen sensors.
lFollow below steps to remove each heated oxygen sensor.
a. Remove engine under cover.
b. Remove harness connector of each heated oxygen sensor, and harness from bracket and middle clamp.
c. Using heated oxygen sensor wrench, remove heated oxygen
sensors.
CAUTION:
lBe careful not to damage heated oxygen sensor.
lDiscard any heated oxygen sensor which has been
dropped from a height of more than 0.5 m (19.7 in) onto a
hard surface such as a concrete floor; use a new one.
2. Remove exhaust manifold and three way catalyst assembly.
a. Remove exhaust manifold cover lower.
b. Remove exhaust front tube. Refer toEX-2, "
EXHAUST SYS-

lPut V block on, and support No.2 and No.5 journal of camshaft.
lSet dial gauge vertically to No.3 journal.
lTurn camshaft to one direction with hands, and measure cam-
shaft runout on dial gauge. (Total indicator reading)
Camshaft Cam Height
1. Measure camshaft cam height.
2. If wear is beyond the limit, replace camshaft.
Camshaft Journal Clearance
Outer Diameter of Camshaft Journal
lMeasure outer diameter of camshaft journal.
Inner Diameter of Camshaft Bracket
lTighten camshaft bracket bolt with specified torque.
lUsing inside micrometer, measure inner diameter of camshaft
bracket.
Calculation of Camshaft Journal Clearance
(Journal clearance) = (inner diameter of camshaft bracket) – (outer
diameter of camshaft journal).
lWhen out of the specified range above, replace either or both camshaft and cylinder head.Standard : Less than 0.04 mm (0.0016 in)
