5. Install crankshaft to cylinder block.
While turning crankshaft by hand, make sure it turns smoothly.
6. Install main bearing caps. Align the identification number to the journal position to install.
Install the upper side of the identification number facing thefront of engine. (The number shall be read correctly from the
rear of engine.)
Using plastic hammer or similar tool, tap them lightly to seat them on the installation position.
NOTE:
Main bearing cap cannot be replaced as a single parts, because
it is machined together with cylinder block.
7. Install each main bearing cap bolt as follows:
a. Apply new engine oil to threads and seating surface of main bearing cap bolts, and tighten all bolts temporarily.
b. Tighten main bearing cap bolt (M12) in order of 1 to 10.
c. Tighten main bearing cap sub bolt (M9) in order of 11 to 20.
d. Tighten main bearing cap bolt (M12) to 40 degrees clockwise in order of 1 to 10. (Angle tightening)
CAUTION:
Use angle wrench (SST) to ch eck tightening angle in step
“d” and “e”. Do not make judg ment by visual inspection.
e. Tighten main bearing cap sub bolt (M9) to 30 degrees clockwise in order of 11 to 20. (Angle tightening)
f. Tighten side bolt (M10) in order of 21 to 30. After installing main bearing cap bolts, make sure that crankshaft can be rotated smoothly.
Check the crankshaft end play. Refer to EM-256, "
Inspection After Disassembly".
g. Install cover of cylinder block rear left side (next to the starter motor housing).
8. Install new rear oil seal on rear oil seal retainer. Install new rear oil seal so that each seal lip is oriented asshown in the figure.

Tap until flattened with front edge of rear oil seal retainer. Do not damage or scratch outer ci rcumference of oil seal.
Make sure the garter spring is in position and seal lips not inverted.
9. Install rear oil seal retainer. Apply new engine oil to both oil seal lip and dust seal lip.
Apply a continuous bead of liquid gasket with tube presser(commercial service tool) to rear oil seal retainer as shown in
the figure.
Use Genuine RTV Silicone Seal ant or equivalent. Refer to

Recommended Chemical Product and Sealant".
10. Install piston to connecting rod.
a. Using snap ring pliers, install new snap ri ng to the groove of the piston rear side.
Insert it fully into groove to install.
b. Install piston to connecting rod. Using industrial use drier or similar tool, heat piston until piston pin can be pushed in by hand without
excess force [approx. 60 to 70 °C (140 to 158 °F)]. From the front to the rear, insert piston pin into piston
and connecting rod.
Assemble so that the front mark on the piston head and the oil holes and the cylinder No. on connecting rod are positioned as
shown in the figure.
c. Using snap ring pliers, install new snap rings to the groove of the piston front side.
Insert it fully into groove to install.
After installing, make sure that connecting rod movessmoothly.
11. Using piston ring expander (commercial service tool), install pis- ton rings.
CAUTION:

Tighten main muffler mounting bracket bolts in numerical order as
shown in the figure.
CAUTION:
Always replace exhaust tube gasket s with new ones when reassembling.
If heat insulator is badly deformed, repair or repl ace it. If deposits such as mud pile up on the heat
insulator, remove them.
When installing heat insulator avoid large gaps or interference between heat insulator and each
exhaust pipe.
Remove deposits from the sealing surface of each connection. Connect them securely to avoid
gases leakage.
Temporarily tighten mounting nuts on the exhaust manifold side and mounting bolts on the vehicle
side. Check each part for unusual interference, an d then tighten them to the specified torque.
When installing each mounting rubber, avoid twisting or unusual extension in up/down and right/left
directions.
INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION
Make sure clearance between tail tube and bumper is even.
With engine running, check exhaust tube joints for gas leakage and unusual noises.
Check to ensure that mounting brackets and mount ing rubbers are installed properly and free from undue
stress. Improper installation could resu lt in excessive noise and vibration.

Ball Joint Inspection
Check for boot breakage, axial looseness, and torque of transverse link and steering outer socket ball joint.
Refer to FSU-13
, PS-17.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:
Be sure to replace the new differential side oil seal every removal of drive shaft. Refer to FFD-12
.
Refer to "Removal and Installation"for tightening torque. Install in the reverse order of removal. NOTE:
Refer to component parts location and do not reuse non-reusable parts.
To assemble disc rotor and wheel hub and bearing assembly, align the marks.
(When not using the alignment mark, refer to BR-19, "

• Check for the correct installation status prior to removal or disassembly. If matching marks are required, becertain they do not interfere with the function of the parts when applied.
Overhaul should be done in a clean work area, it is preferable to work in dustproof area.
Before disassembly, using steam or white gasoline, completely remove sand and mud from the exterior of
the unit, preventing them from entering into the unit during disassembly or assembly.
Check appearance of the disassembled parts for dam age, deformation, and unusual wear. Replace them
with a new ones if necessary.
Gaskets, seals and O-rings should be replaced any time when the unit is disassembled.
In principle, tighten bolts or nuts gradually in several steps working diagonally from inside to outside. If tight-
ening sequence is specified, observe it.
Clean and flush the parts sufficiently and blow-dry them.
Be careful not to damage sliding surfaces and mating surfaces.
When applying sealant, remove the old sealant from t he mounting surface; then remove any moisture, oil,
and foreign materials from the application and mounting surfaces.
Always use shop paper for cleaning the inside of components.
Avoid using cotton gloves or shop rags to prevent entering of lint.
During assembly, observe the specified tightening tor que, and apply new gear oil, petroleum jelly, or multi-
purpose grease as specified for each vehicle, if necessary.
