Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)í
lThe LDWS notifies the driver that the vehicle may be deviating from its lane.lThe system detects the white (yellow) lines on the traffic lane using the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC) and if it determines that the vehicle may be deviating from its
lane, it notifies the driver by flashing the LDWS indicator light (green) and operating the
LDWS warning sound.
lUse the LDWS when you drive the vehicle on roads with white (yellow) lines.lFor vehicles with type A instrument cluster, check the vehicle condition or have the
vehicle inspected at an Authorized Mazda Dealer according to the indication.
lA system malfunction or operation conditions are indicated by a warning.

Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
WARNING
Do not use the LDWS under the following conditions:
The system may not operate adequately according to the actual driving conditions,
resulting in an accident.
ØDriving on roads with tight curves.
ØDriving under bad weather conditions (rain, fog, and snow).
The functions of the LDWS have limitations:
Always stay on course using the steering wheel and drive with care. The system is
not designed to compensate for a driver's lack of caution, and if you rely too much
on the LDWS it could lead to an accident. The driver is responsible for assuring lane
changes and other maneuvers. Always pay attention to the direction in which the
vehicle is traveling and the vehicle's surroundings.

CAUTION
ØDo not modify the suspension. If the vehicle height or the damping force of the
suspensions is changed, the LDWS may not operate correctly.
ØDo not remove the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC). Otherwise, the system will not
operate normally.
ØHeed the following cautions to assure correct operation of the LDWS.
ØDo not place objects on the dashboard which reflect light.
ØKeep the area of the windshield glass near the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
clean.
ØDo not apply accessories, stickers or film to the windshield near the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC). If there are objects in front of the Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC) lens, even a transparent sticker, they will obstruct the lens and
cause the system to not operate correctly.
ØBefore performing repairs around the rearview mirror, consult an Authorized
Mazda Dealer.
ØAlways keep the windshield glass around the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
clean. If the windshield fogs, defog it using the front defroster.
ØWhen cleaning the windshield, do not allow glass cleaners or similar cleaning
fluids to get on the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) lens. In addition, do not
touch the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) lens.
ØConsult an Authorized Mazda Dealer regarding cleaning the interior side of the
windshield around the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC).

NOTElIf your vehicle deviates from its traffic lane, the LDWS operates (warning sound and indicator
light). Steer the vehicle adequately to drive the vehicle to the center of the lane.
lWhen the turn signal lever is operated for a lane change, the LDWS warning is automatically
canceled. The LDWS warning becomes operable when the turn signal lever is returned and the
system detects the white (yellow) lines.
lIf the steering wheel, accelerator pedal, or brake pedal is operated abruptly and the vehicle moves
close to a white (yellow) line, the system determines that the driver is making a lane change and
the LDWS warning is automatically canceled.
lThe LDWS may not operate during the period immediately after the vehicle has deviated from its
lane and the LDWS has operated, or the vehicle deviates from its lane repeatedly within a short
period of time.
lThe LDWS does not operate if it does not detect the white (yellow) lines of the traffic lane.lUnder the following conditions, the LDWS may not be able to detect white (yellow) lines correctly
and the LDWS may not operate correctly.
lIf an object placed on the dashboard is reflected in the windshield and picked up by the
camera.
lHeavy luggage is loaded in the luggage compartment or on the rear seat and the vehicle is
inclined.
lThe tire pressures are not adjusted to the specified pressure.lWhen the vehicle is driven on the entry and exit to or from the rest area or tollgate of a
highway.
lThe white (yellow) lines are less visible because of dirt or paint flaking.lThe vehicle in front of your vehicle is running near a white (yellow) line and the line is less
visible.
lA white (yellow) line is less visible because of bad weather (rain, fog, or snow).lThe vehicle is driven on a temporary lane or section with a closed lane due to construction.lA misleading line is picked up on the road such as a temporary line for construction, or
because of shade, lingering snow, or grooves filled with water.
lThe surrounding brightness suddenly changes such as when entering or exiting a tunnel.lThe illumination of the headlights is weakened because of dirt or the optical axis is deviated.lThe windshield is dirty or foggy.lBack-light is reflecting from the road surface.lThe road surface is wet and shiny after rain, or there are puddles on the road.lThe shade of a guardrail parallel to a white (yellow) line is on the road.lThe width of a lane is excessively narrow or wide.lThe road is excessively uneven.lThe vehicle is shaken after hitting a road bump.lThere are two or more adjacent white (yellow) lines.lThere are various road markings or lane markings of various shapes near an intersection.

Auto cancel
Under the following conditions, the
LDWS is automatically canceled and kept
on stand-by, and the LDWS warning light
(amber) in the instrument cluster
illuminates.
On the type A instrument cluster, the lane
indication (bordered line) is indicated in
the display.
The LDWS is automatically enabled when
the condition changes and the system is
operable.
lThe system cannot detect white
(yellow) lines.
lThe vehicle speed is less than about 60
km/h (37 mph).
lThe vehicle is making a sharp curve.lThe vehicle is making a curve at an
inadequate speed.
lThe temperature inside the camera is
high or low.
lThe windshield around the camera is
foggy.
lThe windshield around the camera is
blocked by an obstruction, causing
poor forward visibility.
Auto cancel of warning
Under the following conditions, the
LDWS determines that the driver is
making lane changes and the warning is
automatically canceled.
The LDWS is automatically enabled after
the operation.
lThe steering wheel is operated
abruptly.
lThe brake pedal is depressed abruptly.lThe accelerator pedal is depressed
abruptly.
lA turn signal lever is operated (after
the turn signal lever is returned, the
LDWS warning may not operate for
about 3 seconds which is the period of
time required to make a lane
correction).
NOTE
lAfter about 5 seconds have elapsed with the
turn signal lever left operating, the LDWS
warning may operate if the vehicle is close
to a white (yellow) line.
lThe sensitivity of the warning (sensitivity
with which the system determines the
driver’s intentional lane change) can be
changed.
Refer to Personalization Features on page 9-9.
qCanceling The System
To cancel the LDWS, press the LDWS
switch. The LDWS indicator light (Green/
Amber) in the instrument cluster turns off.
The lane indication displayed in the type
A instrument cluster turns off.
qLDWS Warning
If the system determines that the vehicle
may be deviating from its lane while the
system is operating, the LDWS warning
sounds and the LDWS indicator light
(green) flashes.

4-23.

In the display of the type A instrument
cluster, the direction in which the system
determined that the vehicle may be
deviating from its lane is indicated.
Operate the steering wheel adequately and
drive in the center of the lane.

Indication on display
NOTElIf the LDWS warning sound is set to
rumble, the sound will be heard from the
vehicle speaker on the side which the
system determined the vehicle may be
deviating from its lane.
lThe LDWS warning sound may not be
heard depending on the surrounding
conditions such as outside noise.
lThe warning timing with which the system
determines the vehicle may be deviating
from its lane can be changed.
Refer to Personalization Features on page
9-9.
qForward Sensing Camera (FSC)
lThe LDWS camera, located near the
rearview mirror, also functions as the
Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) for the
High Beam Control System (HBC).
lIf the temperature inside the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC) is extremely
high or low, the LDWS is
automatically canceled and kept on
stand-by, and the LDWS warning light
(amber) in the instrument cluster
flashes. Message information is
indicated in the display in the type A
instrument cluster.
The LDWS is automatically enabled
when the conditions change and the
system is operable.

CAUTION
Heed the following cautions to assure
the correct operation of the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC).
ØDo not remove the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC) cover.
ØConsult an Authorized Mazda
Dealer regarding cleaning of the
camera lens.
ØDo not hit or apply strong force to
the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
or the area around it. If the
Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
has been severely hit, do not use
the LDWS and consult an
Authorized Mazda Dealer.
ØConsult an Authorized Mazda
Dealer before performing repairs
around the Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC).
ØThe Forward Sensing Camera
(FSC) is installed to the windshield.
Consult an Authorized Mazda
Dealer for windshield repair and
replacement.
ØThe direction in which the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC) is pointed
has been finely adjusted. Do not
change the installation position of
the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
or remove it. Otherwise, it could
result in damage or malfunction.
ØBe careful not to scratch the
Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
lens or allow it to get dirty. Also,
do no take the camera apart.
Otherwise, it could result in
damage or malfunction.
ØAlways keep the windshield glass
around the camera clean by
removing dirt or fogging. Use the
windshield defroster to remove
fogging on the windshield.

Rear View Monitorí
The rear view monitor provides visual images of the rear of the vehicle when reversing.
WARNING
Always drive carefully confirming the safety of the rear and the surrounding
conditions by looking directly with your eyes:
Reversing the vehicle by only looking at the screen is dangerous as it may cause an
accident or a collision with an object. The rear view monitor is only a visual assist
device when reversing the vehicle. The images on the screen may be different from
the actual conditions.
CAUTION
ØDo not use the rear view monitor under the following conditions: Using the rear
view monitor under the following conditions is dangerous and could result in
injury or vehicle damage or both.
ØIcy or snow-covered roads.
ØTire chains or a temporary spare tire is installed.
ØThe trunk lid is not fully closed.
ØThe vehicle is on a road incline.
ØWhen the display is cold, images may course across the monitor or the screen and
may be dimmer than usual, which could cause difficulty in confirming the
surrounding conditions of the vehicle. Always drive carefully confirming the safety
of the rear and the surrounding conditions by looking directly with your eyes.
ØDo not apply excessive force to the camera. The camera position and angle may
deviate.
ØDo not disassemble, modify, or remove it as it may no longer be waterproof.
ØThe camera cover is made of plastic. Do not apply degreasing agents, organic
solvents, wax, or glass coating agents to the camera cover. If any are spilled on
the cover, wipe off with a soft cloth immediately.
ØDo not rub the cover excessively, or polish it using an abrasive compound or a
hard brush. The cover may be damaged affecting the image.
NOTE
lIf water, snow, or mud is stuck on the camera lens, wipe it off using a soft cloth. If it cannot be
wiped off, use a mild detergent.
lIf the camera temperature changes rapidly (Hot to cold, cold to hot), the rear view monitor may
not operate correctly.
lWhen replacing the tires, consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer. Replacing the tires could result in
deviation of the guide lines which appear on the display.
lIf the vehicle's front, side, or rear has been involved in a collision, the alignment of the rear view
parking camera (location, installation angle) may have deviated. Always consult an Authorized
Mazda Dealer to have the vehicle inspected.

Because the distance guide lines are displayed based on a flat surface, the distance to the
three-dimensional object displayed on the screen is different from the actual distance.

qPicture Quality Adjustment
WARNING
Always adjust the picture quality of the rear view monitor while the vehicle is
stopped:
Do not adjust the picture quality of the rear view monitor while driving the vehicle.
Adjusting the picture quality of the rear view monitor such as brightness, contrast,
color, and tint while driving the vehicle is dangerous as it could distract your
attention from the vehicle operation which could lead to an accident.
Picture quality adjustment can be done while the shift lever is in reverse (R).
There are four settings which can be adjusted including brightness, contrast, color, and tint.
When adjusting, pay sufficient attention to the vehicle surroundings.
1. Press the setup button (
) to display the picture quality adjustment screen.
2. Touch the
andon-screen buttons to change the set value.
Touch the
on-screen button to return to the camera image display.

Air intake selector
This switch controls the source of air
entering the vehicle.
Press the air intake selector switch to
alternate between the outside air and
recirculated air modes.
Recirculated air mode (
)
Outside air is shut off. Air within the
vehicle is recirculated.
Outside air mode (
)
Use this mode for ventilation or
windshield defrosting.
WARNING
Do not use the recirculated air mode in
cold or rainy weather:
Using the recirculated air mode in
cold or rainy weather is dangerous as
it will cause the windows to fog up.
Your vision will be hampered, which
could lead to a serious accident.
qHeating
1. Set the mode selector dial to the
position.
2. Set the air intake selector to the outside
air mode.
3. Set the temperature control dial to the
hot position.
4. Set the fan control dial to the desired
speed.
5. If dehumidified heating is desired, turn
on the air conditioner.NOTE
lIf the windshield fogs up easily, set the
mode selector dial to the
position.lIf cooler air is desired at face level, set the
mode selector dial at the
position and
adjust the temperature control dial to
maintain maximum comfort.
lThe air to the floor is warmer than air to
the face (except when the temperature
control dial is set at the extreme hot or cold
position).
lIn theorposition, the air
conditioner is automatically turned on and
the outside air mode is automatically
selected to defrost the windshield. In the
orposition, the outside air mode
cannot be changed to the recirculated air
mode.
qCooling (With air conditioner)
1. Set the mode selector dial to the
position.
2. Set the temperature control dial to the
cold position.
3. Set the fan control dial to the desired
speed.
4. Turn on the air conditioner by pressing
the A/C switch.
5. After cooling begins, adjust the fan
control dial and temperature control
dial as needed to maintain maximum
comfort.

CAUTION
If the air conditioner is used while
driving up long hills or in heavy
traffic, monitor the engine coolant
temperature warning light to see if it
is illuminated or flashing (page 4-23).
The air conditioner may cause engine
overheating. If the warning light is
illuminated or flashing, turn the air
conditioning off (page 7-24).
NOTE
lWhen maximum cooling is desired, set the
temperature control dial to the extreme cold
position and set the air intake selector to
the recirculated air mode, then turn the fan
control dial fully clockwise.
lIf warmer air is desired at floor level, set
the mode selector dial at the
position
and adjust the temperature control dial to
maintain maximum comfort.
lThe air to the floor is warmer than air to
the face (except when the temperature
