2-Blower speed selection dial
There are 4 blower speeds for control
of the amount of air flow.
Adjust the blower speed by turning the
blower speed selection dial clockwise
or anticlockwise. The setting for ordi-
nary use should be the first or second
speed.
3-Temperature control dial
The heater will not operate if the dial is
set all the way to the left.
The air flow temperature will gradually
increase as the dial is turned to the
right.
NOTE
When the engine coolant temperature is
low, temperature of air introduced into the
passenger compartment does not change
even if the temperature control dial is
moved to the high temperature side.

Main flow directions:
(Face position)
Air flows to the upper part of the
passenger compartment.
(Foot/face position)
Air flows to the upper part of the
passenger compartment, and the
leg area.
(Foot position)
Air flows to the leg areas.
(Foot/demister position)
Air flows to the leg areas, wind-
screen door windows.
(Demister position)
Air flows to the windscreen and the
door windows.
NOTE
Air always flows out from the centre and side
ventilators regardless of the mode selection
dial position.

5-Air selection switch
Every time the switch is pressed, alter-
ation is made between outside air
introduction and inside air recircula-
tion.
When inside air is recirculated, the in-
dicator lamp comes on.
(Outside position)
Outside air is introduced into the
passenger compartment.
(Recirculation position)
Air is recirculated inside the pas-
senger compartment.
NOTE
Normally, use the outside position to keep
the windscreen and side windows clear
and quickly remove fog or frost from the
windscreen.
If high cooling performance is desired or if
the outside air is dusty or otherwise con-
taminated, use the recirculation position.
But in this case, switch to the outside posi-
tion periodically to ventilate so that the win-
dow does not become fogged up.
CAUTION
Use of the recirculation position for
extended time causes the windows to
fog up.

NOTE
(1)To demist effectively, direct the air flow
from the side ventilators towards the
door windows.
(2) Do not set the temperature control dial
around the max. cool position. Cool air
will blow against the window glasses
and form mist on them.

CAUTION
When using the air conditioning, the
idling speed may slightly increase as
the air conditioning compressor is
switched on/off automatically. Es-
pecially for vehicles with an auto-
matic transmission, while the vehicle
is stationary, fully depress the brake
pedal to prevent the vehicle from
creeping.
Automatic air conditioning*EH14A-U
The air conditioning can only be operated
while the engine is running.

NOTE
(1) There is a photo sensor, atmosphere
temperature sensor and interior air tem-
perature sensor inside the vehicle.
A- Photo sensor
B- Atmosphere temperature sensor
C- Interior air temperature sensor
Never place anything on top of the
cover of these sensors, doing so will
prevent them from functioning properly.
(2) The cool air form the ventilators may ap-
pear as a mist. This is due to moist air
being suddenly cooled by the air condi-
tioning. This will clear after a few mo-
ments.

Operating the system as an auto-
matic air conditioning
EH14BBO
In normal conditions, use the system in the
AUTO mode and follow these procedures:
1-Set the blower speed selection dial to
“AUT” position.
2-Turn the temperature control dial to set
the desired temperature.
The temperature can be set within a
range of 15 to 29.
The temperature will gradually in-
crease as the dial is turned to the right.NOTE
Set the temperature, under normal operating
conditions, at around 22.
3-Set the mode selection dial to “AUT”
position.
4-Push the air conditioning switch to op-
erate the air conditioning. When the air
conditioning operates, the operation
indicator lamp (
) in the dial will
come on.
The outlet port (except “
” and “”),
recirculation/outside – air select and blower
speed, and ON/OFF of air conditioning will
be controlled automatically.

seconds while the temperature control
dial is operated.
(2) If the outside temperature drops below
about 3 C, the alarm sounds and the
outside temperature figure flashes for
about 5 seconds. Turning the tempera-
ture adjustment dial during the period of
the alarm will have no effect on the dis-
play.
After completion of the warning, set the
temperature. (Refer to “Outside tem-
perature” on page 4–25.)

If you operate the blower speed selection
dial or the mode selection dial as you de-
sired, the system is still automatically con-
trolled except selected function which dial is
operated. To return all operations to auto-
matic operation, set the dials to “AUT”
