Mainshaft, Countershaft,

Differential Assemblies

Removal

1. Remove the change holder assembly from the

clutch housing.

2. Tape the mainshaft splines to protect them, then

remove the mainshaft assembly and countershaft

assembly with the shift fork from the clutch

3. Remove the differential assembly from the clutch

Shift Lever,

Select Lever

Removal

1. Remove the shift spring set plate and shift detent

spring from the transmission housing.

2. Remove the bolt and spring washer.

3. Pull out the shift lever, then remove the shift arm.ProCarManuals.com

2 . I f th e clearanc e exceed s th e servic e limit , measur e
the widt h o f th e shif t arm .
If th e widt h o f th e shif t ar m is les s tha n th e stan -
dard, replac e th e shif t ar m wit h a ne w one .
If th e widt h o f th e shif t ar m is withi n th e standard ,
replace th e shif t piec e wit h a ne w one . I
f th e widt h o f th e interloc k i s les s tha n th e stan -
dard , replac e th e interloc k wit h a ne w one .
If th e widt h o f th e interloc k i s withi n th e standard ,
replace th e selec t ar m wit h a ne w one .

. Measur e th e clearanc e betwee n th e interloc k an d
selec t arm .
Standard : 0.0 3 - 0.1 5 m m (0.00 1 - 0.00 6 in )
4 . I f th e clearanc e exceed s th e standard , measur e th e
widt h o f th e interloc k finger .

5. Measure the clearance between the shift fork and

shift piece.

6. If the clearance exceeds the service limit, measure

the width of the shift piece.

If the width of the shift piece is less than the stan-

dard, replace the shift piece with a new one.

If the width of the shift piece is within the standard,

replace the shift pieces or shift forks with a new

Shift Fork, Synchro

Sleeve

Clearance Inspection

1. Measure the clearance between each shift fork and

its matching synchro sleeve..

2. If the clearance exceeds the service limit, measure

the width of the shift fork fingers.

If the width of the shift fork fingers is less than the

standard, replace the shift fork with a new one.

If the width of the shift fork fingers is within the

standard, replace the synchro sleeve with a new

one. The synchro sleeve and synchro hub should be
