OVERVIEW
All vehicles , except thos e manufactured to Nort h American Specificati on (NAS), are i ns tall ed wit h manuall y operated front
s eat s as s t andard. Opt ions available include electricall y power operat ed front s eat s wi thout memory functi on, and an
electricall y power operat ed dri ver's s eat wit h memory funct ionalit y. The front s eats may als o be provi ded wit h arm rest s t o
improve dri ver and front pass enger comfort .
NAS vehicles are ins tal led wi th power operat ed front seat s as s tandard. The front se at s feat ure arm res ts t o i mprove driver
and front pas s enger comfort. A dri ver's power operated s eat wit h memory funct ionalit y i s provided as an opt ion for NAS
vehi cl es.
Dependi ng on vehi cl e s peci fi cat ion and t ri m l evel , vehi cl es may als o feature front h eat ed s eat s and a l umbar support
s ys t em. Lumbar s upport is provided as a manual or electrically operat ed s yst em, and i s onl y available for t he dri ver's s eat.
The rear s eat is manufact ured t o t he s ame s pecificati on for al l vehicles , and is pro vided wi th ISOFIX chi ld s afet y s eat
res t raint s .
All s eats i ncorporate adjust able head rest rai nt s . Depending on the vehicle specifica ti on the seat s are uphols t ered in eit her
all clot h, cl ot h/l eat her/PVC, l eather/PVC or all PVC finis h.
FRONT SEAT CONSTRUCTION
The front seat bas e is manufact ured from high s t rength st eel ext rus ions des igned to exceed current l egal s trengt h
requirements . The s eat bas e i s molded t o form an anti -s ubmari ne hollow that wi ll ret ain t he occupant in the s eat during a
front end col lis i on. The s eat backres t is manufact ured from high st rength s teel and features a wi re sus pens i on sys t em t o
provide i ncreased comfort . The backres t is at t ached at both si des of t he s eat bas e w it h a high st rengt h s teel bracket and
pivot.
The s eat bas e and backrest are i nl ayed wit h formed s ect ions of dual hardnes s , molded foam t o form the s eat s quab and
cus hion. The s eats are desi gned to provide s upport, comfort and an ergonomic pos it io n for t he driver and pass enger.
The dri ver and pas senger front seat s are provi ded wit h addit ional safet y feat ures . T he front driver's s eat is i nst all ed wit h a
s eat pos it ion s ens or; t he front pas s enger s eat is i ns t alled wit h an occupancy cl ass i ficati on s yst em s ens or (dependant on
vehi cl e s peci fi cat ion) and an occupancy det ect ion s ys tem. Bot h t he driver's and pas s enger seat s afet y feat ures provide
inputs to cont rol the deployment of the ai r bags and seat belt pre-t ens ioners .

front non-memory seat . The seat i ncorporat es a power s eat modul e located under the s eat frame that all ows up to 3
memory posi ti ons for t he seat t o be s t ored and recall ed. If memory exteri or mirrors are ins tall ed, the power s eat modul e
als o i nit iates movement of t he ext eri or mirrors by transmit ti ng a command s ignal to the front door control modul es when
t he seat memory pos it ion i s recalled. The front door control modul es are us ed t o s to re and recall t he memory exteri or
mi rror pos it ions .

Power Seat Mod ule The power seat module is connected in t he wi ri ng bet ween t he s eat s wi tch pack and se
at adjus t ment motors. The module
cont ains a non-vol at il e Elect ricall y Eras able Programmable Read Onl y Memory (EEPROM) .
The power seat module moni tors t he s eat pos it ions and s tores informat ion provided by the s eat track Hal l s ens ors . The
Hall s ensors are incorporated wit hi n t he s eat adjus t ment motors . Al l s eat memory val ues and current s eat mot or pos it ions
are st ored i n t he EEPROM.
In the event of a power los s, when power i s res tored t he current mot or pos it ions are recall ed from t he EEPRO M memory

and adopt ed as t he current pos it ions. This wil l al low the relat ive memory posi ti ons to be ret ained wit hout any need t o
recali brate the power s eat modul e.
The power seat module is able to be 'flas hed' for s ervice updates or i nterrogat ed us ing t he Land Rover approved diagnost ic
equi pment.
Up t o 3 di fferent s eat pos it ions are abl e t o be s t ored i n the power s eat modul e. Sea t pos it ions are st ored in memory by
pres s ing t he memory butt on ( M), and t hen 1 of t he 3 memory s tore butt ons ( 1, 2, 3) wi thi n 5 s econds . The memory
butt ons are l ocat ed on t he s wit ch pack. The swit ch pack memory butt ons allow the dri ver t o cont rol t he memory st orage
and recall operat ions for t he s eat and ext erior mi rrors . The s wit ch pack but tons are non-lat chi ng, moment ary act ion
s wit ches .
On vehicles i nst all ed wit h a hi gh-li ne ins t rument clus ter and t he ignit ion s wi tched on, the s eat posi ti on memory s tore
commands are di spl ayed i n t he mes sage center and a si ngl e chime is s ounded to confi r m t he new s eat pos it ion i s s aved.

The act ivi ty of t he s eat is automat icall y monit ored by t he power s eat module. The mo dule wil l react to motors that are not
functi oni ng correct ly t o an operat ion reques t , and will al so aim to reduce power con sumpt ion during peri ods of i nact ivit y.
The power seat module provi des the foll owing automat ic moni toring funct ions : Stal l det ect ion mode Sleep mode
Batt ery moni tor mode.

Calibration of Power Seat Module
If the power s eat modul e is replaced in servi ce, t he repl acement module must be cali brat ed usi ng t he Land Rover approved
diagnost ic equipment . The cal ibrat ion routi ne is necess ary for t he power s eat module t o reset t he s eat dat um values .

s eat s . A heati ng element is incorporated wit hi n each s eat cus hi on and s quab. A seat heati ng modul e and elect rical wiring
is locat ed beneat h each front seat .
The s eat heat ing modules are connected on the LIN bus t o t he ATC, and are als o hardw ired to the AJB for the power
s uppl y. A ground t ermi nal from each s eat heat ing modul e completes the circui t.

Manually Operated Lumbar Sup port
The manual adjus t l umbar s upport s yst em is operat ed by a hand-wheel locat ed on t he s ide of t he backres t . The
hand-wheel i s connected wit h a cable t o a flexibl e plat e mounted behind the backres t squab. As the hand-wheel rot ates ,
t he plate is di st ort ed and is forced t o bow toward or away from t he s eat s quab. The manual adjus t s ys t em provi des a high
level of control over t he increas e in lumbar s upport.
Power Operated Lumbar Support
The power operat ed l umbar s upport s ys t em features a s ingle motor dri ven pump and air cells . The air cell s are mount ed
behi nd t he s eat s quab. The l umbar motor is cont roll ed us ing t he lumbar s wit ch mounte d t o t he s eat frame. O perati on of
t he lumbar s wit ch wil l energi ze the lumbar motor, and dri ve the pump to infl ate or d efl ate the ai r cel ls .
Power for the lumbar motor i s s uppl ied and control led by the CJB, vi a a bat tery-s ave r t imer relay t o t he lumbar cont rol
s wit ch. The l umbar control swi tch di rects the volt age via a hardwired connecti on to the l umbar motor.
Lumbar pos it ion i s not s tored wit hin t he power seat module.
