Delayed switch-off is deactivated.
Delayed switch-off is reactivated as soon as
you restart the engine. Activating/deactivating the interior
lighting delayed switch-off Using the
Inter. lighting
delay.sw.off function, you can set whether
the interior lighting should remain on for 10
seconds after the key is removed from the
ignition lock when it is dark.

Activating/deactivating the automatic
door locking feature The
Automatic door lock function allows
you to set whether your vehicle will lock cen-
trally from a speed of about 15 km/h
upwards. i

locking feature, see (Y page 55).

door lock.

Selecting the switch-on time for the
auxiliary heating* This function is only available if the vehicle
has an auxiliary heating system.
The
Auxiliary heat. function allows you to
select three switch-on times. You can set the
exact switch-on time using the other func-
tions in the Heatersubmenu.
You can switch off the auxiliary heating by
using the remote control or the auxiliary heat-
ing button on the centre console. Controls

The auxiliary heating is switched off automat-
ically after 50 minutes. This time can be
changed. To do this, visit a qualified specialist
workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre.

Risk of fire and poisoning
The operation of the auxiliary heating pro-
duces hot, toxic exhaust fumes. The fuel
vapours produced during refuelling could
ignite on the hot exhaust system.
Do not switch on the auxiliary heating at
filling stations or in enclosed spaces, for
instance, a garage, if there is no air extrac-
tion system.
You could otherwise endanger yourself and
others.
The Auxiliary heat. function can be called
up directly.
X Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.
X Press the button for the auxiliary heating on
the centre console (Y page 130).

X Press the jbutton to select submenus. X

Heater submenu.
X Press the jbutton to select Auxiliary

one of the three switch-on times or Timer

low indicator lamp lights up in the auxiliary
heating button.

Changing the switch-on time for the
auxiliary heating* This function is only displayed if you have
selected a switch-on time. Here you can enter
the time at which the auxiliary heating is to
be switched on.

After changing from one menu to another,
the new time setting is stored. The yellow
indicator lamp lights up on the button for
the auxiliary heating on the centre console.

Activating/deactivating the easy-
entry/exit feature i
For more information on the easy-entry/
exit feature, see (Y page 67). G
Risk of injury
The steering wheel moves when the easy-
entry/exit feature is active. There is a risk
of occupants becoming trapped. Before
activating the easy-entry/exit feature,
make sure that nobody can become trap-
ped.
Do not leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle, even if they are secured in a child
restraint system. The children could open Controls

Resetting the consumption statistics X
Press èor· to select From
start .

function that you wish to reset.
X Press and hold the reset button on the left
of the instrument cluster until the values
are reset to "0".
The From start consumption statistics are
reset automatically after 999 hours or
9,999 kilometres. The
From reset consumption statistics are
reset automatically after 9,999 hours or
99,999 kilometres.
Calling up the range X
Press èor· to select From
start .
X Press the jork button to select
Distance:
The multi-function display shows the esti-
mated distance that can be covered by the
vehicle, based on your current driving style
and the amount of fuel remaining in the
tank.
If there is only a small amount of fuel left in
the fuel tank, the display shows a vehicle
being refuelled instead of the range. Telephone menu*
Functions and displays are dependent on the
optional equipment installed in your vehicle.
You can place your mobile phone in the
mobile phone bracket* (Y page 147), or set
up a Bluetooth connection to the audio sys-
tem or COMAND APS* (see the separate
operating instructions). G
Risk of accident
You must observe the legal requirements
for the country in which you are currently
driving when operating a mobile phone in
the vehicle.
If it is permitted to operate a mobile phone
while the vehicle is in motion, only operate
it when road and traffic conditions permit.
You could otherwise be distracted from the
traffic conditions, cause an accident and
injure yourself and others.

tem or COMAND APS*; see separate oper-
ating instructions.
X Press the èor· button to select the
Telephone menu.
Mobile phone on PIN code not yet entered
Once you have inserted the mobile phone into
the mobile phone bracket*, the multi-func-
tion display shows the TEL PIN?message
(COMAND APS*: Enter phone PIN:).
X Enter the PIN using the mobile phone, Lin-
guatronic*, the audio system or COMAND
APS*.
The mobile phone will search for a network.
Mobile phone operational
You will see the Readymessage or the name
of the GSM network provider in the multi-
function display. If the operational readiness
symbol goes out, your vehicle is outside the
transmission and reception range. In this
case you will see No Servicein the multi-
function display. Accepting a call If someone calls you while you are in the
Telephone
menu, the following message
appears in the multi-function display: Audio 20 CD display
COMAND APS* displayX
Press the íbutton to accept the call.
Rejecting or ending a call X
Press the ìbutton.
Dialling a number from the phone book If your mobile phone is operational, you can
select and dial a number from the phone book
at any time. You can enter new numbers into
the phone book using the mobile phone.
Please refer to separate operating instruc-
tions for information on how to do this.

Press the èor· button to select the
Telephone menu.
X Press the jork button to call up
the phone book.
X Press the jork button to select the
desired name. To scroll through the tele-
phone book faster, press and hold the
j ork button for longer than 1 sec-

If the call is connected, the call duration
appears in the multi-function display. If it is
stored in the phone book, the name is also
displayed. Otherwise, the number dialled is
displayed.

numbers which were dialled.

Overview of driving systems
The vehicle's driving systems are described
on the following pages:
R Cruise control and variable Speedtronic
which you can use to control the speed of
the vehicle
R Ultrasonic reversing aid*, which helps you
park and manoeuvre
R Reversing camera *,which helps you when
parking and manoeuvring
You will find further information about driving
off-road in the "Operation" section
(Y page 172). Cruise control
Cruise control maintains a constant road
speed for you. On long and steep downhill
gradients, especially if the vehicle is laden or
towing a trailer, you must select shift range
1, 2or 3in good time. By doing so you will
make use of the braking effect of the engine,
which relieves the load on the brake system
and prevents the brakes from overheating
and wearing too quickly. G
Risk of accident
Do not change down for additional engine
braking on a slippery road surface. This
could cause the drive wheels to lose their
grip and the vehicle could skid.
Use cruise control only if road and traffic con-
ditions make it appropriate to maintain a
steady speed for a prolonged period. You can
store any road speed above 30 km/h. G
Risk of accident
Cruise control cannot take account of road
and traffic conditions.
Always pay attention to traffic conditions
even when cruise control is activated.

Risk of accident
Do not use cruise control:
R in road and traffic conditions which do
not allow you to maintain a constant
speed (e.g. heavy traffic or winding
roads). You could otherwise cause an
accident.
R on slippery roads. Braking or accelerat-
ing could cause the drive wheels to lose
traction and the vehicle could then skid.
R when there is poor visibility, e.g. due to
fog, heavy rain or snow
Cruise control lever You can operate cruise control and variable
Speedtronic with the cruise control lever.
The LIM indicator lamp on the cruise control
lever indicates which system you have selec-
ted:
R LIM indicator lamp off:
cruise control is selected
R LIM indicator lamp lit:
variable Speedtronic is selected 1
To store the current speed or a higher
speed

Storing and maintaining the current
speed You can store the current speed if you are
driving faster than 30 km/h.

Accelerate the vehicle to the desired
speed.
X Briefly press the cruise control lever up
1 or down 4.
X Remove your foot from the accelerator
pedal.
Cruise control is activated. The vehicle
automatically maintains the stored speed
and, in addition, the stored speed is shown
in the multi-function display for approxi-
mately 2 seconds.
i Cruise control may be unable to maintain
the stored speed on uphill and downhill
gradients. The stored speed is resumed
when the gradient levels out. Controls

Risk of accident
Only select a stored speed if you know what
that speed is and whether it is suitable for
the current situation. Otherwise, sudden
acceleration or braking could endanger you
or others.
X Briefly pull the cruise control lever towards
you 3.
X Remove your foot from the accelerator
pedal.
Cruise control adjusts the vehicle’s speed
to the last speed stored.
i G 320 CDI: if no speed is stored, cruise
control stores the current speed and main-
tains it.
Setting a speed X
Press the cruise control lever up 1for a
higher speed or down 4for a lower speed.
X Keep the cruise control lever pressed until
the desired speed is reached.
X Release the cruise control lever.
The new speed is stored.
i Cruise control is not deactivated if you
depress the accelerator pedal. For exam- ple, if you accelerate briefly to overtake,
cruise control adjusts the vehicle's speed
to the last speed stored after you have fin-
ished overtaking.
Making adjustments in 1 km/hincre-
ments X
Briefly press the cruise control lever up
1 for a higher speed or down 4for a
lower speed.
The last speed stored is increased or
reduced.
Deactivating cruise control There are several ways to deactivate cruise
control:
X Briefly press the cruise control lever for-
wards 6.

X Brake.
or
X Briefly press the cruise control lever in the
direction of arrow 5.
Variable Speedtronic is selected. LIM indi-
cator lamp 2in the cruise control lever
lights up. Cruise control is automatically deactivated if,
for example:

you are driving at less than 30 km/h
R ESP ®
is intervening
R you move the selector lever to Nwhile driv-
ing
R G 320 CDI: you engage a differential lock
i The last speed stored is cleared when you
switch off the engine. Speedtronic
Variable Speedtronic helps you to avoid
exceeding a specified speed, e. g. when driv-
ing through varying speed limits in built-up
areas. On long and steep downhill gradients,
especially if the vehicle is laden or towing a
trailer, you must select shift range 1,2or 3
in good time. By doing so, you will make use
of the braking effect of the engine, which
relieves the load on the brake system and

the brake system to overheat, increases
the braking distance and can lead to the
brakes failing completely. G

Variable Speedtronic is only an aid
designed to assist driving. You are respon-
sible for the vehicle's speed and for braking
in good time.
i The speed indicated in the speedometer
may differ slightly from the limit speed
stored.
You can operate cruise control and variable
Speedtronic with the cruise control lever.
The LIM indicator lamp on the cruise control
lever indicates which system you have selec-
ted:
R LIM indicator lamp off: Cruise control is selected.
R LIM indicator lamp lit:

You can use the cruise control lever to limit

On downhill slopes, variable Speedtronic can-
not always maintain the stored speed. You will hear a warning tone if the stored
speed is exceeded. You will see the message
Limit exceeded orLimit in the multi-func-
tion display (G 320 CDI).
X If necessary, apply the brakes.
Selecting variable Speedtronic X
Check whether LIM indicator lamp 2is on.
If it is on, variable Speedtronic is already
selected.
If it is not, press the cruise control lever in
the direction of arrow 5.
LIM indicator lamp 2in the cruise control
lever lights up. Variable Speedtronic is
selected.
i If you select variable Speedtronic and the
current speed is higher than the stored
speed, you will hear a warning tone. You will
see the message Limit exceeded or
Limit in the multi-function display
(G 320 CDI). G
Risk of accident
If there is a change of drivers, advise the
new driver of the limit speed stored.
Only use Speedtronic when you do not have
to accelerate suddenly to a speed higher Controls

You can only exceed the limit speed stored
if you deactivate variable Speedtronic:

using the cruise control lever.

It is not possible to deactivate variable
Speedtronic by braking.
Storing the current speed You can use the cruise control lever to limit
the speed to any speed above 30 km/h while
the engine is running.
X Briefly press the cruise control lever up

The current speed is stored and shown in
the multi-function display.
Calling up the last speed stored X
Briefly pull the cruise control lever towards

i If you call up the stored speed and your
current speed is higher, you will hear a
