The TCM consists of a microcomputer and connectors for signal
input and output and for power supply. The unit controls the A/T.
ON BOARD DIAGNOSIS LOGIC
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
NOTE:
If “DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CONFIRMATION PROCE-
DURE” has been previously conducted, always turn ignition
switch “OFF” and wait at least 5 seconds before conducting the
next test.
With CONSULT-II
1. Turn ignition switch “ON” and select “DATA MONITOR” mode for
A/T with CONSULT-II.
2. Start engine.
3. Run engine for at least 2 seconds at idle speed.

TROUBLE DIAGNOSES FOR SYMPTOMS
1. O/D OFF Indicator Lamp Does Not Come On

SYMPTOM:
O/D OFF indicator lamp does not come on for about 2 seconds
whenturningignitionswitchto“ON”.
1.CHECK TCM POWER SOURCE
1. Turn ignition switch to “ON” position.
(Do not start engine.)
2. Check voltage between TCM terminals 10, 19, 28 and ground.
3. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position.
4. Check voltage between TCM terminal 28 and ground.
OK or NG
OK >> GOTO2
NG >> Check the following items:
lHarness for short or open between ignition switch and
TCM terminals 10, 19 and 28 (Main harness).
lRefer toAT-389, "Wiring Diagram—AT—MAIN".
lIgnition switch and fuse Refer toPG-2, "POWER SUPPLY ROUTING".
2.CHECK TCM GROUND CIRCUIT
1. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position.
2. Disconnect TCM harness connector.
3. Check continuity between TCM terminals 25, 48 and ground.
If OK, check harness for short to ground and short to power.
OK or NG
OK >> GOTO3
NG >> Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power
in harness or connectors. Refer toAT-389, "
Wiring Dia-
gram—AT—MAIN".

3.CHECK LAMP CIRCUIT
1. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position.
2. Check resistance between TCM terminals 13 and 10, 19.
3. Reinstall any part removed.
OK or NG
OK >> GOTO4
NG >> Check the following items:
lO/D OFF indicator lamp.
Refer toDI-10, "
Meter/Gauge Operation and Odo/Trip
Meter Segment Check in Diagnosis Mode",
“METERS AND GAUGES”.
lHarness and fuse for short or open between ignition
switch and O/D OFF indicator lamp (Main harness)
Refer toPG-2, "
POWER SUPPLY ROUTING".
lHarness for short or open between O/D OFF indicator lamp and TCM.
4.CHECK SYMPTOM
Check again.
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> 1. Perform TCM input/output signal inspection.
2. If NG, recheck TCM pin terminals for damage or loose connection with harness connector.
2. Engine Cannot Be Started In “P” and “N” PositionECS004SV
SYMPTOM:
lEngine cannot be started with selector lever in “P” or “N” position.
lEngine can be started with selector lever in “D”, “2”, “1” or “R” position.

Does “TCM INPUT SIGNALS” in “DATA MONITOR” show damage to PNP switch circuit?

–Torque converter relief valve
–Torque converter clutch solenoid valve
–Pilot valve

NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.
4.CHECK SYMPTOM
Check again.

NG >> 1. Perform TCM input/output signal inspection.
2. If NG, recheck TCM pin terminals for damage or loose connection with harness connector.
13. A/T Does Not Hold Lock-up ConditionECS004T6
SYMPTOM:
A/T does not hold lock-up condition for more than 30 seconds.
1.CHECK DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
Does self-diagnosis show damage to engine speed signal circuit
after cruise test?

lVehicle does not decelerate by engine brake when turning overdrive control switch OFF.
lVehicle does not decelerate by engine brake when shifting A/T from “D” to “2” position.

1.CHECK PNP SWITCH CIRCUIT (WITH CONSULT-II)
With CONSULT-II
1. Turn ignition switch to “ON” position.
(Do not start engine.)
2. Select “TCM INPUT SIGNALS” in “DATA MONITOR” mode for “A/T” with CONSULT-II.
3. Read out “P/N”, “R”, “D”, “2” and “1” position switches moving selector lever to each position.
Check that the signal of the selector lever position is indicated
properly.
OK or NG

NG >> Check the following items:
lPNP switch (Refer to “Component Inspection”,AT-

lHarness for short or open between ignition switch and
PNP switch (Main harness)

1. Turn ignition switch to “ON” position. (Do not start engine.)
2. Check voltage between TCM terminals 26, 27, 34, 35, 36 and
ground while moving selector lever through each position.

3. Read out “OVERDRIVE SWITCH”.
Check the signal of the overdrive control switch is indicated properly.
(Overdrive control switch “ON” displayed on CONSULT-II means
overdrive “OFF”.)
