for instance if an attempt is made
to jack it up and steal the wheels
or to raise it prior to towing away.
• An interruption in the power sup-
ply from the battery.
• Improper use of the socket for
on-board diagnosis OBD.
• The vehicle is locked while a
device is connected to the socket
for on-board diagnosis OBD.

The alarm system indicates the fol-
lowing changes visually and audi-
bly:
• Audible alarm: Depending on
local regulations, the acoustic
alarm may be suppressed.
• Visual alarm: By flashing of the
hazard warning lights and, if
applicable, the headlights.
To safeguard the function of the
alarm system, do not modify the
system.
The alarm system is switched off
and on at the same time as the
vehicle is unlocked and locked via
the remote control or Smart Key
System.
The alarm system is triggered on
opening a door if the door has been
unlocked using the integrated key
in the door lock.
To stop the alarm, see page 104.
The boot lid can be opened even
with the alarm system switched on.
On closing the boot lid, it is locked
again and monitored, as long as the
doors are locked. The hazard warn-
ing lights flash once.
• Indicator lamp flashes every 2
seconds: The alarm system is
switched on.
• Indicator lamp flashes for
approximately 10 seconds
before it flashes every 2 sec-
onds: The interior movement
detector and tilt alarm sensor are

net or boot lid are not closed cor-
rectly. Correctly closed access
points are secured.
If the open access points are then
closed, the interior protection and tilt
alarm sensor are switched on.
• The indicator lamp extinguishes
after the vehicle has been
unlocked: No attempt has been
made to tamper with the vehicle.
• The indicator lamp flashes after
unlocking until the drive-ready
state is switched on, but for no
longer than approximately 5 min-
utes: The alarm has been trig-
gered.
The incline of the vehicle is moni-
tored.
The alarm system responds, for
example, when there is an attempt
to steal a wheel or when towing
away.
The passenger compartment is
monitored to the height of the seat
cushions. Therefore the alarm sys-
tem, including the interior move-
ment detector, is switched on even
when the window is open. Falling
objects such as leaves can acci-
dentally trigger the alarm.
The tilt alarm sensor and the inte-
rior movement detector may trigger
an alarm without any unauthorised
activity taking place.
Possible situations for an unwanted
alarm:
• In washing bays or car washes.
• In two-level garages.
• During transport via motorail, car
ferry or trailer.
• When there are pets in the vehi-
cle.
• When the vehicle is locked after
starting to refuel.
The tilt alarm sensor and interior
protection can be switched off for
such situations.
The indicator lamp illuminates for
approximately 2 seconds and then
flashes again.
The tilt alarm sensor and the inte-
rior movement detector are
switched off until the next time the
vehicle is locked.

• Unlock the vehicle with the inte-
grated key and switch on
drive-ready state using the spe-
cial ID feature of the remote con-
trol, see page 93.
• With Smart Key System: fully
grasp the door handle on either
the driver's door or the front pas-
senger door while carrying the
remote control.
The windows can be opened and
closed from outside with the vehicle
key.

The windows can be operated
under the following conditions.
• In standby state.
• In drive-ready state.
• For a short while after idle state
has been established.
• The remote control is in the inte-
rior.
The vehicle key must be in the
vehicle interior.
• Push the switch as far as
the resistance point.
The window opens as long as the
switch is held.
• Push the switch past the
resistance point.
The window is opened automatically.
The movement is stopped by pressing
the switch again.

Parts of the body can become
trapped when the windows are oper-
ated. There is a danger of injury or damage to property. When opening
and closing, make sure that the area
of movement of the windows is kept clear.

• Pull the switch as far as
the resistance point.
The window closes as long as the
switch is held.
• Pull the switch past the
resistance point.
The window closes automatically if the
door is closed. Pulling the switch again
stops the movement.
The anti-trap mechanism prevents
objects or parts of the body from
becoming trapped between the
door frame and window while a win-
dow is being closed.
If resistance or a blockage is
detected while a window is being
closed, the closing operation is
interrupted.
If an external danger or ice does
not allow you to close the windows
normally, proceed as follows:
1 Pull the switch past the
resistance point and hold it
there.
The window is closed with a restricted
anti-trap mechanism. If the closing
force exceeds a certain value, the clos- ing operation is interrupted.
2 Pull the switch past the
resistance point again within
approximately 4 seconds and
hold it there.
The window is closed without the
anti-trap mechanism.

• Insert the seat belt into the belt
guide.
• Place the seat belt tightly over
the pelvis and shoulder, close to
the body and without twisting.
• Make sure that the seat belt is
positioned low at the hip in the
area of the pelvis. The seat belt
must not press on the abdomen.
• The seat belt must not be rubbed
on sharp edges, be routed over
solid or breakable objects or be
trapped.
• Avoid wearing bulky clothing.
• Keep the seat belt taut by occa-
sionally pulling upwards on the
upper section.
WA R N I N G
Care should be taken to avoid con-
tamination of the webbing by pol-
ishes, oils and chemicals and particularly battery acid. Cleaning
may safely be carried out using a mild
soap and water solution. The belt should be replaced if webbing
becomes frayed, contaminated or
damaged. Seat belts should not be
worn with straps twisted. Each seat belt assembly must only be used by
one occupant; it is forbidden to put a
belt around a child being carried on the occupant’s lap.
It is essential to replace the entire assembly after it has been worn in a
severe impact even if damage to the
assembly is not obvious.
WA R N I N G
No modifications or additions should
be made by the user that will either
prevent the seat belt adjusting
devices from operating to remove slack, or prevent the seat belt assem-
bly from being adjusted to remove
slack.
WA R N I N G
If the rear backrest is not locked, the
protective effect of the middle seat belt is not ensured. There is a danger
of injury or even death. Lock the wider
rear seat backrest when using the middle seat belt.
WA R N I N G
The protective function of the seat
belts may be limited or may even fail completely in the following situations:
• The seat belts or belt buckles are damaged, dirty or have been modi-
fied in another way.
• The seat belt tensioners or belt retractors have been modified.
Seat belts can be damaged in an accident without the damage neces-
sarily being apparent. There is a dan-
ger of injury or danger to life. Do not modify seat belts, seat belt buckles,
seat belt tensioners, belt retractors
and belt anchor points and ensure that they are kept clean. After an acci-
dent, have the seat belts inspected at
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-
able repairer.

• The length of the diagonal shoul-
der strap adjusts itself automati-
cally to allow freedom of
movement.
• To release the seat belt, press
the button on the buckle catch
unit.

slowly over the shoulder and
pelvis.
2 Insert the seat belt tongue in the
belt buckle. The seat belt buckle
must be heard to engage.
1 Hold the seat belt firmly.
2 Press the red button on the belt
buckle.
3 Guide the seat belt back up to
the reel mechanism.
The acoustic seat belt warning is
activated when the seat belt on the
driver's side is not fastened.
For some country specifications,
the acoustic seat belt warning is
also active when the front passen-
ger seat belt is not fastened or
objects are on the front passenger
seat.
The acoustic seat belt warning will
also be activated if a seat belt is
unfastened during the journey.

The head restraints are integrated
into the seatback and cannot be
adjusted.
The distance from the back of the
head is set via the backrest angle.
Adjust the distance so that the head
restraint is as close as possible to
the back of the head.

removed.

vehicle is unlocked with the vehicle
key, this setting is called up auto-

closer than they appear. The distance to road users behind the vehicle could
be incorrectly estimated, for example
when changing lane. There is a dan-
ger of accidents. Look over your shoulder to estimate the distance
from following traffic.

The seat belts are designed to protect
persons of average adult height and
weight. A child which is 150 cm or
shorter should be sat in an appropri- ately sized child restraint system,
such as a Toyota genuine child
restraint system. Do not allow a child to be unrestrained in the vehicle while
it is moving, as doing so is extremely
dangerous.
WA R N I N G
Never leave a child unattended in the
vehicle.
When parking the vehicle, turn the
engine switch off, exit the vehicle with
the child and lock the doors. Even if it
is just for a short time, leaving a child in the vehicle can be extremely dan-
gerous for the following reasons:
●When the vehicle is parked under
direct sunlight, the temperature
inside the vehicle can increase to over 50°C, even in winter. In this sit-
uation, occupants may suffer from
dehydration or heatstroke.
●If a switch is operated accidentally,
it may lead to unexpected injuries.
●Do not allow a child to open and
close the doors. When closing a door, be careful so that the child’s
hands and feet to not get caught in
the door.
●Do not allow a child to put their head or limbs out of the door win-
dow and be sure that they are clear
of the window before operating the power window switch.

Unsupervised children or pets in the vehicle can set the vehicle in motion
and endanger themselves or other
road users, for example by the follow- ing actions:
●Pressing the start/stop button.
●Release the parking brake.
●Opening and closing doors or win-

●Operating vehicle equipment.
There is a risk of accidents or injury.
Do not leave children or pets unsu- pervised in the vehicle. When leaving
the vehicle, take the remote control
with you and lock the vehicle.

equipped with a front airbag for the
front passenger’s seat that cannot
be deactivated:
Before fitting a child restraint on the
front passenger seat, make sure
that the front and side airbags on
the passenger side are disabled. If
the airbag cannot be deactivated,
do not fit child restraint systems.

If child restraint systems and their
attachment system s have been dam- aged or subjected to stresses in an
accident, their protective function may
be limited or may fail completely. A child might not be adequately
restrained, for example in the event of
an accident, braking or evasive
manoeuvres. There is a risk of injury or even death. Child restraint systems
that are damaged or have been sub-
jected to stresses in an accident must not be used further. If attachment sys-
tems have been damaged or sub-
jected to stresses in an accident, have them checked and replaced by
any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli- able repairer and renewed if neces-
sary.

If the seat is not adjusted properly or the child seat has been installed
incorrectly, the chil d restraint system
may have limited stability or may not be stable at all. There is a risk of
injury or even death. Make sure that
the child restraint system rests firmly against the backrest. Wherever possi-
ble, adapt the backrest angle of all the
relevant seat backrests and adjust the seats correctly. Make sure that the
seats and their backrests are correctly
engaged or locked. If possible, adjust the height of the head restraints, or
remove them.

Deactivating airbags

Active front passenger airbags can
injure a child in a child restraint sys-
tem if they are deployed. There is a
risk of injury. Make sure that the front passenger airbags are deactivated
and the PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF
indicator lamp is illuminated.
