When using the air conditioning sys- tem, seat heaters, etc. for a long
period of time, make sure that no
body parts are kept near the air out- lets or in direct contact with the seat,
as doing so may lead to minor burns
or chill burns. If you feel unusual while
using the air conditioning system or seat heaters, stop use or change the
setting immediately.

Complete system:
The automatic air conditioning
adjusts to the set temperature as
quickly as possible, using maxi-
mum cooling or heating power if
necessary. The temperature is then
maintained.

setting.
The interior can only be cooled

The cooling function is switched on
when the engine is running.
The cooling function is switched on
automatically during recirculated-air
mode to dry the air and prevent
condensation.
Depending on the weather condi-
tions, the windscreen and side win-
dows may mist over for a short time
when the drive-ready state has
been switched on.
The cooling function is switched on
automatically in the AUTO pro-
gramme.
When the automatic air condition-
ing is in operation, condensation
develops and exits underneath the
vehicle.
When drive-ready state is switched
on, the system is set to lowest tem-
perature, optimum air flow and
recirculated-air mode.
The function is available at an out-
side temperature above approxi-
mately 0°C/32°F and when
drive-ready state is switched on.
The LED is illuminated when the
system is switched on.
The air flows from the side nozzles
for the upper body area. Therefore
open the side nozzles.
The air flow can be adapted when
the programme is active.
The AUTO programme cools, venti-
lates or heats the interior automati-
cally.
It does this by automatically regu-
lating the air flow, air distribution
and temperature depending on the
interior temperature and the
selected temperature setting.
The LED is illuminated when the
AUTO programme is switched on.
Depending on the selected temper-
ature and external influences, the
air is directed towards the wind-
screen, the side windows the upper

body and into the footwell.
The cooling function, see page 262,
is switched on automatically in the
AUTO programme.
The AUTO programme is automati-
cally switched off when the air dis-
tribution is set manually.
If the air outside the vehicle has an
unpleasant odour or contains pol-
lutants, the air supply to the interior
of the vehicle can be shut off. The
air inside the vehicle is then recircu-
lated.
The LED is illumi nated when the
recirculated-air mode is switched
on.
When the left LED is illuminated:
Automatic recirculated air mode
If the pollution sensor detects pollutants
in the outside air, the air mode is auto-
matically changed from outside air
mode to recirculated air mode.
When the right LED is illuminated:
Recirculated air mode
The air in the cabin is continuously
recirculated.
When recirculated-air mode is
switched off, fresh air is directed
into the vehicle's interior.
The recirculated-air mode automat-
ically switches off after a given time
depending on the ambient condi-
tions, to avoid condensation.
The cooling function is also
switched on automatically to avoid
condensation.
Continuous use of recirculated-air
mode worsens air quality inside the
vehicle and increases condensa-
tion on the windows.
If there is condensation, shut down
recirculated-air mode or remove the
condensation, see page 265.
The air flow for air conditioning can
be set manually.
To be able to adjust the air flow
manually, first switch off the AUTO
programme.

Have this filter replaced during
maintenance, see page 330, of the
vehicle.
The direction of the air flows can be
set individually.
The direction of the air flows can be
set for direct or indirect ventilation.
Align the air flow directly onto the
vehicle occupants. The air flow pro-
vides noticeable heating or cooling
depending on the set temperature.
Do not align the air flow directly
onto the vehicle occupants. The
vehicle interior is cooled or heated

■General
The temperature of the ventilation
in the upper body area can be var-
ied.
The temperature is adjusted on an
individual basis, for example
towards the blue for colder and
towards the red for warmer.
The ventilation air flow in the upper
body area provides noticeable
heating or cooling depending on
the set temperature.
The set interior temperature for
driver and front seat passenger is
not changed by this.
