ohms in each wire, go to next step. If resistance is more than 2 ohms in either
wire, replace wire harness. Go to next step.
4. Reconnect all SRS components. Activate air bag system. Using scan tool, erase
then retrieve DTCs. If DTC 25 is retrieved, go to step 1 . If DTC 25 is not
retrieved, system is normal at this time. Intermittent condition may exist.
DTC 26: DRIVER-SIDE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER SHORT CIRCUIT 1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. Disable SRS.
See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM
. If DTC 34 is
retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 34 is not retrieved, go to step 3 .
2. Inspect SRS ECU connector C-25. See SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL
UNIT (SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. See Fig. 19
. If
connector is connected properly, go to next step. If connector is not connected
properly, connect properly and go to step 7 .
3. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect, then reconnect SRS ECU
connector C-25 and driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector D-24. See
SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
Connect negative battery cable. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If DTC 26 is
retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 26 is not retrieved, system is normal at this
time.
4. Disconnect negative battery cable. Connect Load Resistor (MB991865) to
Resistor Harness (MB991884). Connect resistor harness to driver-side seat belt
pretensioner connector D-24. Connect negative battery cable. Using scan tool,
check for DTCs. If DTC 26 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 26 is not
retrieved, replace driver-side seat belt pretensioner.
5. Disconnect SRS ECU connector C-25 and driver-side seat belt connector D-24.
Insert a cable tie or similar insulator between terminals No. 29 (Red/Blue wire)
and No. 30 (Red/Yellow wire) of SRS ECU connector to release shorting bar.
See Fig. 21
. If continuity exists between terminals No. 29 and 30, go to next
ste
p. If continuit
y does not exist, between terminals No. 29 and 30, erase, then

retrieve DTCs using scan tool. If DTC 26 is retrieved, replace SRS ECU. Go to
step 7 .
6. Measure continuity of Red and Red/White wires between SRS ECU connector
C-25, terminals No. 29 and 30 and driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector
D-26, terminals No. 1 and 2. See Fig. 25
. If continuity does not exist in both
wires, replace wire harness between driver-side seat belt pretensioner and SRS
ECU. Go to next step. If continuity exists in both wires, go to next step.
7. Reconnect all SRS components. Activate air bag system. Using scan tool, erase
then retrieve DTCs. If DTC 26 is retrieved, go to step 1 . If DTC 26 is not
retrieved, system is normal at this time. Intermittent condition may exist.

2. Disconnect driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector D-24. See SEAT
BELT PRETENSIONER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. See Fig.
19 . Connect Load Resistor (MB991865) to Resistor Harness (MB991884).
Connect resistor harness to driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector.
Connect negative battery cable. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If DTC 27 is
retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 27 is not retrieved, replace driver-side seat
belt pretensioner.
3. Disconnect SRS ECU connector C-25. See SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure
resistance of Red/Blue wire between SRS ECU connector C-25, terminal No.
29 and driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector D-26, terminal No. 1. See
Fig. 21
& Fig. 25
. Measure resistance of Red/Yellow wire between SRS ECU
connector terminal No. 30 and driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector D-
26, terminal No. 2. If resistance is 2 ohms or less in both wires, erase, then
retrieve DTCs using scan tool. If DTC 27 is retrieved, replace SRS ECU. Go to
next step. If resistance is more than 2 ohms in either wire, replace wire harness
between SRS ECU and seat belt pretensioner. Go to next step.
4. Reconnect all SRS components. Activate air bag system. Using scan tool, erase
then retrieve DTCs. If DTC 27 is retrieved, go to step 1 . If DTC 27 is not
retrieved, system is normal at this time. Intermittent condition may exist.
DTC 28: PASSENGER-SIDE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER SHORT CIRCUIT 1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. Disable SRS.
See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM
. If DTC 34 is
retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 34 is not retrieved, go to step 3 .
2. Inspect SRS ECU connector C-25. See SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL
UNIT (SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. See Fig. 19
. If
connector is connected properly, go to next step. If connector is not connected
properly, connect properly. Go to step 7 .

passenger-side seat belt pretensioner connector D-32. See SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reconnect
connectors. Connect negative battery cable. Using scan tool, check for DTCs.
If DTC 28 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 28 is not retrieved, system is
normal at this time.
4. Disconnect negative battery cable. Connect Load Resistor (MB991865) to
Resistor Harness (MB991884). Connect resistor harness to driver-side seat belt
pretensioner connector D-32. Connect negative battery cable. Using scan tool,
check for DTCs. If DTC 28 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 28 is not
retrieved, replace passenger-side seat belt pretensioner.
5. Disconnect SRS ECU connector C-25 and passenger-side seat belt connector
D-32. Insert a cable tie or similar insulator between terminals No. 27 (Red
wire) and 28 (Red/White wire) of SRS ECU connector to release shorting bar.
See Fig. 21
. Check for continuity between terminals. If continuity exists, go to
next step. If continuity does not exist, erase, then retrieve DTCs using scan
tool. If DTC 28 is retrieved, replace SRS ECU. Go to step 7 .
6. Measure continuity of Red and Red/White wires between SRS ECU connector
C-25, terminals No. 27 and 28 and passenger-side seat belt pretensioner
connector D-39, terminals No. 1 and 2. See Fig. 25
. If continuity does not
exist in both wires, replace wire harness between SRS ECU and passenger-side
seat belt pretensioner. Go to next step. If continuity exists in both wires, go to
next step.
7. Reconnect all SRS components. Activate air bag system. Using scan tool, erase
then retrieve DTCs. If DTC 28 is retrieved, go to step 1 . If DTC 28 is not
retrieved, system is normal at this time. Intermittent condition may exist.
DTC 29: PASSENGER-SIDE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER OPEN CIRCUIT 1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. Disable SRS.
See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM
. Go to next step.

19 . Connect Load Resistor (MB991865) to Resistor Harness (MB991884).
Connect resistor harness to passenger-side seat belt pretensioner connector.
Connect negative battery cable. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If DTC 29 is
retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 29 is not retrieved, replace passenger-side
seat belt pretensioner. Go to step 4 .
3. Disconnect SRS ECU connector C-25. See SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure
resistance of Red wire between SRS ECU connector C-25, terminal No. 27 and
driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector D-32, terminal No. 1. See Fig. 25
.
Measure resistance of Red/White wire between SRS ECU connector terminal
No. 28 and driver-side seat belt pretensioner connector D-32, terminal No. 2. If
resistance is 2 ohms or less in both wires, erase, then retrieve DTCs using scan
tool. If DTC 29 is retrieved, replace SRS ECU. If resistance is more than 2
ohms in either wire, replace wire harness between SRS ECU and seat belt
pretensioner.
4. Reconnect all SRS components. Activate air bag system. Using scan tool, erase
then retrieve DTCs. If DTC 29 is retrieved, go to step 1 . If DTC 29 is not
retrieved, system is normal at this time. Intermittent condition may exist.
DTC 31 & 32: SRS ECU CAPACITOR If DTC 31 or 32 is present, replace SRS ECU. See SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
DTC 34: SRS ECU CONNECTOR LOCK CIRCUIT 1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. Check SRS-
ECU connectors C-25 and C-26. See SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT
(SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. See Fig. 19
. If
connectors are connected properly, go to next step. If connectors are not
connected properly, connect properly. Go to step 3 .
2. Disconnect and inspect connectors C-25 and C-26. If connectors are damaged,
replace wire harness. Go to next step. If connectors are not damaged, reconnect
connectors. Using scan tool, erase then retrieve DTCs. If DTC 34 is retrieved,
re
place SRS ECU. Go to next ste
p.

3. Reconnect all SRS components. Using scan tool, erase then retrieve DTCs. If
DTC 34 is retrieved, go to step 1 . If DTC 34 is not retrieved, system is normal
at this time. Intermittent condition may exist. DTC 35: SRS ECU AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT If DTC 35 is present, replace SRS ECU. See SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
DTC 41: IG1 POWER CIRCUIT 1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. Disable air
bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM
.
Inspect fuse No. 23 in driver-side junction block, located on left side of
instrument panel. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is not okay, go to step
4 .
2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect SRS ECU connector C-26. See
SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL &
INSTALLATION. See Fig. 19
. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition
on. Measure voltage between ground and SRS ECU connector C-26, terminal
No. 16 (Black/Yellow wire). See Fig. 21
. If voltage is less than 9 volts, go to
next step. If voltage is 9 volts or more, erase then retrieve DTCs using scan
tool. If DTC 41 is retrieved, replace SRS ECU. Go to step 10 .
3. Check wire harness between SRS ECU connector C-26, terminal No. 16 and
ignition switch connector C-308, terminal No. 2, including connectors C-211
and C-215. See Fig. 22
. If wire harness or connectors are damaged, replace
wire harness. Go to step 10 . If wire harness and connectors are okay, go to
step 10 .
4. Replace fuse. Turn ignition on for at least one minute, then off. Inspect fuse. If
fuse is okay, go to step 10 . If fuse is not okay, go to next step.
5. Disconnect connector C-211 from junction block. Check for continuity
between ground and connector C-211, terminal No. 24 (Black/Yellow wire).
See Fig. 26
. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist,
go to step 8 .
6. Check for continuity between ground and terminal No. 25 (Black/White wire)
of connector C-211. If continuit

with fuse No. 23. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. If continuity does not exist, go
to next step.
7. Check wire harness between connector C-211, terminal No. 25 and
combination meter connector C-102, terminal No. 12 for a short to ground. See
Fig. 27
. If wire harness is okay, go to step 10 . If wire harness is not okay,
repair wire harness. Go to step 10 .
8. Disconnect SRS ECU connector C-26. Check for continuity between SRS ECU
connector C-26, terminal No. 16 (Black/Yellow wire) and ground. If continuity
exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, erase, then retrieve DTCs
using scan tool. If DTC 41 is retrieved, replace SRS ECU. Go to step 10 .
9. Check Black/Yellow wire between SRS ECU connector C-26, terminal No. 16
and junction block connector C-211, terminal No. 24 for damage or an open or
short circuit. If wire is okay, go to next step. If wire is not okay, replace wire
harness and go to next step.
10. Reconnect all SRS components. Activate air bag system. Using scan tool, erase
then retrieve DTCs. If DTC 41 is retrieved, go to step 1 . If DTC 41 is not
retrieved, system is normal at this time. Intermittent condition may exist.

DTC 42: IG1 POWER CIRCUIT 1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. Disable air
bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM
.
Inspect fuse No. 22 in driver-side junction block, located on left side of
instrument panel. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is not okay, go to step
4 .
2. Disconnect SRS ECU connector C-26. See SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL
UNIT (SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. See Fig. 19
.
Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between
ground and SRS ECU connector C-26, terminal No. 13 (Black/White wire).
See Fig. 21
. If voltage is less than 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 9 volts
or more, erase, then retrieve DTCs. If DTC 42 is retrieved, replace SRS ECU.
Go to step 8 .
3. Check wire harness between SRS ECU connector C-26 and ignition switch
connector C-308

. If wire harness and connectors are damaged, replace wire harness. Go
to step 8 . If wire harness and connectors are okay, go to step 8 .
4. Replace fuse. Turn ignition on for at least one minute, then off. Inspect fuse. If
fuse is okay, go to step 8 . If fuse is not okay, go to next step.
5. Disconnect connector C-211 from junction block. Check for continuity
between ground and terminal No. 7 (Yellow/Black wire) of connector C-211. I
f
continuity exists, check all circuits associated with fuse No. 3 for a short to
ground. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
6. Disconnect SRS ECU connector C-26. Check for continuity between SRS ECU
connector C-26, terminal No. 13 (Black/White wire) and ground. If continuity
exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, erase, then retrieve DTCs
using scan tool. If DTC 42 is retrieved, replace SRS ECU. Go to step 8 .
7. Check Black/White wire between SRS ECU connector C-26, terminal No. 13
and junction block connector C-205, terminal No. 7 for an open, short or
damage. If wire is okay, go to next step. If wire is not okay, replace wire
harness and go to next step.
8. Reconnect all SRS components. Activate air bag system. Using scan tool, erase
then retrieve DTCs. If DTC 42 is retrieved, go to step 1 . If DTC 42 is not
retrieved, system is normal at this time. Intermittent condition may exist.
DTC 43: AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE 1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. Disable air
bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM
.
Disconnect SRS ECU connector C-26. See SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL
UNIT (SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. See Fig. 19
.
Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. If AIR BAG warning light
does not illuminate, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light illuminates, go
to step 3 .
2. Inspect wire harness between ignition switch connector C-308 and SRS ECU
connector C-26 and between C-26 and combination meter connector C-102 for
damage, a short or open circuit. If wire harness is okay, replace combination
meter assembly. Go to next step. If wire harness is not okay, replace wire
harness. Go to next step.
3. Reconnect all SRS com

then retrieve DTCs. If DTC 43 is retrieved, replace SRS ECU. If DTC 43 is not
retrieved, system is normal at this time. Intermittent condition may exist.
DTC 43: AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED 1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. Disable air
bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM
.
Inspect Green/Yellow wire between SRS ECU connector C-26, terminal No. 8
and combination meter assembly connector C-102, terminal No. 10 for an open
circuit. See Fig. 21
& Fig. 27
. If an open circuit is not found, go to next step.
If an open circuit is found, repair wire harness. Go to step 3 .
2. Reconnect SRS components. Using scan tool, erase, then retrieve DTCs. If
DTC 43 is retrieved, replace combination meter assembly. If DTC 43 is not
retrieved, system is normal at this time. Intermittent condition may exist.
3. Reconnect all SRS components. Activate air bag system. Using scan tool, erase
then retrieve DTCs. If DTC 43 is retrieved, go to step 1 . If DTC 43 is not
retrieved, system is normal at this time. Intermittent condition may exist.
DTC 44: AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT 1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. If AIR BAG
warning light is working normally, use scan tool to retrieve SRS DTCs. If DTC
43 is retrieved, diagnose appropriate malfunction.
2. If DTC 44 is retrieved, no further action is necessary. DTC 44 will be
automatically erased when vehicle condition returns to normal.
DTC 46: IMPROPER SRS ECU INSTALLATION If DTC 46 is present, replace SRS ECU. See SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
DTC 51 & 52: DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE If DTC 51 or 52 is present, replace SRS ECU. See SRS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (SRS ECU)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
DTC 54 & 55: PASSENGE
