Remove nut securing tie rod oute r ball joint to steering arm.

Release ball joint from vertical link.
1. Install special tool 211-098 on tie rod outer ball joint.
2. Tighten tool bolt to rele ase taper pin from vertical
link.
15. Remove special tool from ball joint and position tie rod for
access.

Remove nut securing upper wish bone ball joint to vertical
link.
17. CAUTION: Do not use special tool 211-098 in the
following procedure as this will damage the ball joint gaiter.
Release upper wishbone ball joint from vertical link/hub
assembly.

1.
Install special tool 204-192 on ball joint.
2. Tighten tool bolt to rele ase ball joint taper pin from
vertical link.

upper wishbone to release
ball joint pin from vertical
link.

emove nut securing lower wishbone
ball joint to vertical link.

20. To
prevent damage to lower ball
joint, secure vertical link to
road spring using strong wire.
21. CAUTION: Do not use special tool 211-098 in the
following procedure as this will damage the ball joint gaiter.
Release lower wishbone ball joint from vertical link/hub
assembly. 1. Install special tool 204-293 on ball joint.

. Tighten tool bolt to rele

vertical link.
22. Remove vertical link/bearing assembly.
23. Remove special tool 204-293.
24. Clean all suspension to vertical link/hub assembly mating
surfaces.
25. Repeat procedure steps 2 to 24 on opposite side of vehicle.

pin, install securing nut and tighten to 60-80Nm.

and tighten securing nut to 71-85Nm.

l wheel speed sensor.

6. Remove wire temporarily securing vertical link to road spring.
7. Install br ake disc.

lease tension on road spring.

tate adjuster of special tool 204-111 to release spring
tension.

move special tool and adaptor from spring.

9. Position new link ass
embly on
lower wishbone and install but
do not tighten bolt.
10. Position new link arm ball joint stud in stabilizer bar and
install but do not tighten nut.

Tighten new link arm to wishbone nut and bolt to 41-54Nm.

Secure new link arm to stabilizer bar.
Tigh
ten link arm to stabilizer bar nut to 60-80Nm.
Check that ball

joint freed
om of movement has been
maintained.
13. Install road wheel. Refer to 74.20.05.
14. Repeat procedure steps 1 to 13 on opposite side of vehicle.
15. Raise front of vehicle, remove stands and lower vehicle.
16. Carry out steering geometry an d wheel alignment checks and
if necessary adjust. Refer to 57.65.01.

Suspension - Rear Suspension
Description an
d Operation

Description
The i
ndependent rear suspension incorporates co-axial sp
ring and shock absorber units, a subframe, wishbone tie,
pendulum assembly, mounting brac ket, differential strut, cast wishbones and hub carriers. The suspension assembly is
positively located by the subframe, mounting bracket and differential strut.
Each wi
shbone pivots on a fulcru
m bolt which locates in the wishbone tie and pendulum assembly.
The wish
bone tie and pendulum assemblies are respectively in
stalled at the front and rear of the final drive housing.
The differential
strut is secured to the wishbone tie assembly.
Two ti

e rods are installed between the front of the
subframe and the top of the final drive housing.
The ou
ter extremity of each wishbone
is secured to its respective hub carrier assembly by a fulcrum bolt.
Each fulcrum bolt head incorporates an ec centric circular flange which locates in a groove in the front face of the wishbone
arm. Rotation of the fulcrum bolt results in horizontal movement of the bolt shank in an elongated hole in the rear of the
wishbone arm. This acti on achieves corresponding movement of the hub carrier, facilita ting adjustment of road wheel toe-

wer end of each shock absorber is secured to the
wishbone by a bolt which also functions as a pivot.
Adaptive damping is av

lizer bar is installed on
Supercharged and Sport Suspension models . Mounted at the rear of the wishbone
tie assembly, the stabilizer bar is connected to the wishbone by short links.

As each road wheel r
i
ses, move
ment is transmitted through th e hub carrier assembly to the wishbone and axle shaft. The
corresponding rise of the wishbone compre sses the road spring and partially telescopes the shock absorber. During this
action, the spring absorbs result ing shocks and the shock absorber minimizes spring oscillation.
During cornering, vehicle weight is transferred to the outer road wheel with a resulting tendency for the inner wheel to lift.
On Supercharged and Sport Suspension vehicl es, a rear stabilizer bar assists in minimizing this tendency by transferring a
proportion of potential lift of the inner wheel to the outer wheel. This results in enhanced body stability with improved
cornering capabilities.

nuts and bolts: Various thread-locking devices are used on nuts and bolts throughout the
vehicle. These devices restrict the number of times a nut or bolt can be used. See section 100-00 for information.

nstallation

aise rear of vehicle and support
on stands. Refer to Section
100-02.
2. Remove appropriate road wheel. Refer to Section 100-02.

3. Remove bolts securing bump stop to body.

4. Remove bu
mp stop and where applicable, reinforcement
bracket from vehicle.

stop on vehicle.
2. Install bump stop bolts and tighten to 26-34Nm.

Install road wheel. Re fer to Secti

4. Raise vehicle remove stands and lower vehicle. Refer to
Section 100-02.
